Whoa, they played BWP and Face Of Melinda? Awesome!

I'm seeing them November 11th.

Kage 09-07-2005 07:26 AM

Oh, sweet, I just realized they're coming here on October 21st to an awesome venue.

iofsuicide 09-07-2005 07:36 AM

Jude 09-07-2005 08:13 AM

They're not coming anywhere close enough to me for me to make it :(

But Porcupine Tree is playing DC on Sept. 26 :D

Adam Jones is GOD 09-07-2005 11:18 AM

I like reading Face Of Melinda in set lists, a day before I see them, it makes my face go all smiley

RouteOne 09-07-2005 11:44 AM
Well, you're just going to rush out and buy it now right?

To Route 1 - I bought The Silent Circus yesterday on impulse and it's fantastic. Is Alaska as good.
The bridge to Mordecai alone is worth the money. Alaska is a little diefferent than The Silent Circus. Less clean vocals and it's definetly their heaviest album by far. It's very good though.

Special Brew 09-07-2005 11:58 AM

It is far more technical too. Less low death vocals though, which could be a good thing for some people. They are the first band that really turned me on to death vocals.

Opeth > Queen > Tool
I seriously don't understand the Tool obsessions. They are original and have some great songs, but I could never get into them. They aren't anywhere near as technical as people think they are either.
Blast you. :p

Tool > Opeth > Queen. :thumb:
Come on, Tool has had One good album, one Very good album and 2 awsome albums. Opeth has 8 AWSOME albums. There isnt even a contest between the two.

Darkness 09-07-2005 04:29 PM

IMO, Tool has 1 awesome album, 2 good albums, and 1 incredible album. That one incredible album beats anything Opeth has done. Ofcourse, its my opinion, so don't try to argue it.

RouteOne 09-07-2005 05:42 PM

Yep.
hey dude, where you been!

PS: album rules, first listen to baying, and I was HOOKED. But yeah I agree, give it plenty of listens, especially if you like Opeth.
College, Halo 2, girlfriend, eat, sleep, music. :)

Futuro 09-07-2005 05:56 PM

Ok. not too long ago i hated this band. After AJIG and Kage uploaded some songs for me, i have figured out, i love this band. Not much to this post besides i have a new found joy for Opeth.

/Runs and hides from fellow Toolaphiles so i dont have to hear "I TOLD YOU SO"

PeEpHoLe_10 09-07-2005 06:01 PM

How come you hated them before?

Futuro 09-07-2005 06:07 PM
How come you hated them before?
I used to hate the puking noise that the singer made ,but, i heard a song with the growling and it aint to bad now (i still would rather hear his very unique singing voice)

Darkness 09-07-2005 06:19 PM

I TOLD YOU SO. Which sond did you hear that had growling?

Special Brew 09-07-2005 06:51 PM

The YSI threads were closed...

/cry

Darkness 09-07-2005 07:02 PM

Eh, never used em anyways.

Special Brew 09-07-2005 07:21 PM

I was a regular in them. Oh well, we can still upload things for each other here and in other threads.

Jude 09-07-2005 07:39 PM

That's pretty much how I went. I still don't like the growling vocals, but I can kind of tune them out and dig the rest of the music. And I'm still happy when he uses his incredible clean voice for a good purpose.

Deth 09-07-2005 08:00 PM

Ghost Reveries debuted at #64 in the US. Seems rather low if you ask me.

Darkness 09-07-2005 08:15 PM

How big do you think Opeth are though? Their big in the METAL community, but thats very very small compared to all the mainstream and other stuff out there. Thats decent IMO. Sure they deserve much higher, but thats what I expected.

For a death metal band, I'd imagine that's more like record-breakingly high. Although I don't know anything about how the charts or whatever work.

Moses 09-07-2005 08:26 PM

Faith-what song? (I got owned by the page change twice in a row today)

Opeth aren't death metal.... and especially not on the new album. I thought it would have a better spot but I'm going to buy it soon....

Darkness 09-07-2005 08:26 PM

As long as theres growls, people who don't look to much into the music will think its Death Metal.

Well, close enough to death metal that the average American isn't going to go buy their album or get into them...

Moses 09-07-2005 08:27 PM

I knew what you meant, I just felt like being an asshole.

Either way Arch Enemy debuted in the top 40 and I would think Opeth would have been higher.

Hells Bells 09-07-2005 08:28 PM

#64??? For the US charts, that's awesome.

Jude 09-07-2005 08:30 PM

I would call them progressive death metal if I had to, but usually I just call them metal. It's a good enough label. In any case, they aren't the kind of thing that sells a lot of albums in the US mainstream.

Hells Bells 09-07-2005 08:41 PM

Yeah, that's why I was surprised that they did so well.

Jude 09-07-2005 08:43 PM
Yeah, that's why I was surprised that they did so well.
I have no clue who buys that many Opeth albums in the US. I barely know any people that have heard of them, much less buy their album when it comes out.

Hells Bells 09-07-2005 08:45 PM

I know one person who's even heard of Arch Enemy, and they did better than Opeth. I'm from Canada, but the music scene is pretty much the same here as it is in the US.

Det_Nosnip 09-07-2005 09:12 PM

Arch Enemy gets alot more support from stuff like Headbanger's Ball and whatnot, though.

Hells Bells 09-07-2005 11:49 PM

Right...hehe, I forgot about the Headbangers Ball. Then again, I don't have MTV, and even if I did, I hardly ever watch tv, so I wouldn't have paid attention to it anyway.

Special Brew 09-08-2005 02:59 AM

Well, Opeth was just on Headbanger's ball, which could be the beginning of them getting just as much support as Arch Enemy and other bands. I am sort of against that though, even though they do deserve the attention.
