On An Island was good for me, but never really beyond that. Some of the songs grew a bit (Pocketful of Stones is quite nice) but it's still overall a 7/10.

I would give it an 8.5 or so. The title track has such great guitar playing.

This.
I was very fond of the album, I agree it definatly was a little too slow paced, I would have liked one or two lively songs in there to quicken the pace and add a bit of a mixture.
Overall though I like the album alot. "Smile" is awesome, and the backing vocals hypnotize me everytime, the guitar playing in On an Island is fantastic, David was way on form, and alot of the other tracks are good listening.
Good stuff. Take a Breath is one song I didn't like, but the rest is very good.

Jim 12-28-2006 08:23 PM

I quite liked Take a Breath :p

Could've easily been on TDB.

Riva 12-28-2006 09:16 PM

The only thing I disliked about Take A Breath was the creepy old men chanting: "Take a breath, take a deep breath".

rippa32 12-28-2006 09:44 PM

So who played on On An Island? Was it anyone particularly famous?

Riva 12-28-2006 09:52 PM

Rick Wright, Guy Pratt, Graham Nash and David Crosby are the ones I immeadiately recognise.

Creepy old men were the only musicians on the album :p

That song is fantastic. I love the whole feel of it.

Is Guy Pratt the guy that played bass for floyd after Roger left?

Apocalyptic Raids 12-28-2006 10:30 PM

Probably.

Danger Bird 12-28-2006 10:34 PM

I know he's the one who played on Pulse

Yes, he was

Dragon_Prince 12-29-2006 06:23 AM

He also toured with David Gilmour :)

Man I was listening to music on album shuffle last night, and one of my Floyd bootlegs came on. I just remember hearing some awesome versions of DSOTM songs, and now I have to figure out which one's I was listening to. It sounded so good, and it went with my dream perfectly.

Yield 12-29-2006 09:34 AM

I hate it when I listen to my music on shuffle and some short song from The Wall comes on like Bring The Boys Back Home or Stop.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-29-2006 05:53 PM

I never use shuffle.

rippa32 12-29-2006 05:56 PM

^Same, I prefer to listen to albums as a whole.

I made it a point to say that cause I'm the same way. Gotta listen to albums all the way through, they're designed to be that way.

rippa32 12-29-2006 07:11 PM

Ah ok, missed that one. So how many bootlegs do you have?

magicbus 12-29-2006 07:21 PM

6 at the moment. I used to have a few more but I got rid of them to free up space.

After checking "last played" I realized I was listening to Echoes In The Garden. It's got DSOTM in its entirety, Echoes, both SOYCD parts, Have A Cigar, and Dogs and Sheep before they were named that.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-29-2006 08:21 PM

That is an amazing set list.

Jim 12-30-2006 04:29 AM

That's ****ing unreal

rippa32 12-30-2006 05:59 AM

I agree. Ill have a look around for that.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-30-2006 06:03 AM

Hows the quality magicbus?

magicbus 12-30-2006 09:32 AM

Not too bad. It's not the best one I have, but I have a few that are worse. I can upload it for you guys if you want.

Should I send it in to the DU, or aren't many of you on the list?

robo2448 12-30-2006 09:48 AM

I have 8 Floyd boots. If anyone's interested, I'll make a list to share.

magicbus 12-30-2006 01:38 PM

For those of you who aren't on the DU (or can't wait :p )

Apocalyptic Raids 12-31-2006 01:08 AM

cool, thanks.

Meatplow 12-31-2006 03:14 AM

I was just listening to DSOTM through headphones whilst laying in bed, was amazed at some of the layered arrangments i'd never noticed before, particularly in Time. The way that song builds up after the clocks is amazing, i love the chimes in the right headphone. I never noticed how great the guitars are in that song either.

rippa32 12-31-2006 03:57 AM

I found it quite hard to play the intro on guitar actually, the timing is a bitch.
