It is a solid record. It is a lot slower than their previous albums. RZA seems to be trying to do more epic, brooding stuff rather than the under produced raw stuff he is known for. It definitely is better than the W though.
This is really bad after first listen.
I think the biggest problem is that RZA subdues the percussion itself too much, and that seems to throw off the rapping, a lot of the Wu just sounds bored most of the time, though that can also be attributed to them just not aging as well as others. It does get better as it progresses, though, I can see it being a grower.
The production is the best part of the album.
i agree, its a lot more laid back. the production was ok, some tracks stood out, others didnt. its not bad, i just had my hopes too high. we'll see if i like it more after more listens
No Ghostface leaks yet? His albums have been far more consistent than Wu albums, methinks this album will continue the trend.
8 Diagrams is okay so far. Seems a little confused, seems like it's walking between raw and refined and can't figure out where to go.
I'm only like 4 songs in though. How does "The Heart Gently Weeps F/ Erykah Badu, Dhani Harrison and John Frusciante" manage to be both great and awful at the same time. Hm. |
I like what RZA is trying to do with the production but it just doesn't suit alot of the clan members. Like on The Heart Gently Weeps, Ghostface sounds good but the beat just doesn't work with Raekwon and Method Man at all.
hint: it's frusciante's fault
what a shitty guitar tone |
Sunlight was terrible, wow. I only made it like 40 seconds in.

Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell. It's perfect. |
Nobody commented on my video. :upset:
Also, this board is really into JMT. I can't stomach much of that kind of rap. |
JMT got me away from metal. I listen to them way too much, haha.
What kind of rap do you mean? |
Well, Jedi Mind Tricks rap about the same **** in every song. It just gets tiresome. It's the same reason I can't listen to stuff like Demigodz anymore.
Vinnie Paz is just an angry as hell dude, hahaha. I can understand where you're coming from.
Don't get me wrong, I used to love JMT. From them, I got into stuff like Swollen Members who are in the same vein.
JMT do get pretty old pretty quick
I listen to about 10-15 songs a day and never really get bored. If i'm listening to Violent by Design I will though.

Yeah, I know what you mean but their shit is still ill. |
Josh, get Balance By Swollen Members and [i[The Godz Must Be Crazy by the Demigodz.
You'll like it. |
Don't know if it was mentioned in here, but Saul William's new ...Niggy Tardust is pretty rad
I've heard bits of it, you can really hear the Reznor influence. Only heard three songs, but Williams was very angry, as usual, and it had quite a punky feel for most of it. Was pretty good though.

What's ODB's best solo album?
