I think I've done enough YSIing for one night. G'night all and Jom, you can edit the update post a bit more. Sorry I couldn't help out more :(
|
Night, magik.
Tender, you still want some Benefit/Mad Season?
Yeah, please. |
Night, magik.
Yeah, please.
 This Bill Hicks is hilarious. I'm cracking up. |

Thanks.
Which Bill Hicks are you listening to? |
Thanks.
Which Bill Hicks are you listening to?
The one you uploaded, Rant In E Minor. NP: Bill Hicks - Confession Time |
You're both welcome, Bill Hicks-wise. I wish I had something more to upload, though (I've got a load more stuff on my computer back home - I've download far too much on it considering it's on a dial-up connection - but nothing more here).
What are you having to work on for tomorrow? *has tomorrow free* |
Am I the only R&M regular who doesn't get the significance of "Elephant Fresh" in the title of this thread?
|
Nope. I like it (and it rings a kind of general-comedy bell in my mind), but I don't know what it's from, or even if it's from anything.
|
So what are we doing in here agian?
|
I assumed everyone else knew, and never bothered to ask :/
|
I'm glad I'm not the only clueless one in here. |
So what are we doing in here agian?
Wondering what your favourite album is. |
Okay, I need someone's help again.
In the old Scooby-Doo episodes, Jerry Lewis (I think) is a guest star, and he plays a song over and over again... it goes something like, "Pretty ol' miss sunrise, she's alright to me, pretty ol' miss, she's everything to me." I don't know if the "Pretty... miss" part is right, but does anyone know what song this is? It's the episode where Velma opens the trapdoor by playing FEBAG on the xylophone. Sorry, obscure request, I know :-\
I think I've done enough YSIing for one night. G'night all and Jom, you can edit the update post a bit more. Sorry I couldn't help out more :(
You did well, Ali. Thanks a bunch. |
I am so not clueless....
I am so in denial :upset: Jum: Try googling it? Bart: Out of curiosity, what don't you like about Thrice? |
Why on earth do you want to know about that?
|
Bart: Out of curiosity, what don't you like about Thrice?
I'm not sure. I like a couple of their songs (Melting Point of Wax especially), but I've listened to an album of theirs a few times, and just found them lacking a bit. Too slick most of the time, for one thing. Any fans of The Stone Roses in here? I just finished listening to their self-titled album for the first time, and first impressions aren't all that good. A couple of good songs (but really, really good songs - three if you're listening to the reissue) and then many boring ones. Why is this album considered a classic? |
I wasn't asked, but here is my quarell with Thrice, the only kid I know who likes them is a diehard fan, and also the biggest douche in the universe, he seriously is the most egomaniacal piece of **** ever.
It's interesting you describe it as slick, when Melting point of wax is one of their smoother/poppier songs... Eh, I was just wondering, because I love them :) |

I like the few songs that I've heard from them. I was thinking of getting The Artist in the Ambulance, actually. |

C'mon, I'm not that bad :p Seriously though, don't hate a band because of the fans, that's no good. |

Med57, congrats on the Mod. What forum is it for?
|
Whoa, Med got modded?
When did this happen? |
My way favorite Thrice song ATM:

It's only for Sputnik, and he got modded earlier today.
|
Med deserves it, he's basically been a mod by word for the longest time.

Yeah, I know Melting Point isn't one of their edgier songs..I know what I mean though, even if you don't :) I like Melting Point mostly for the lyrics, I think, and the bit around 1:00, when the vocalist goes "parody of an angel, miles above the sea, I hear the voice of reason, SCREAMING UP TO ME". His voice just jumps up, in volume, intensity, everything. It's awesome.
I wasn't asked, but here is my quarell with Thrice, the only kid I know who likes them is a diehard fan, and also the biggest douche in the universe, he seriously is the most egomaniacal piece of **** ever.
How is that Thrice's fault? :-/
That's one of the great unanswered questions of indie music. I've never liked that album at all, and I have no idea why it gets hyped as much as it undoubtedly is. Ian Brown never could sing, and I can live with that, but there's just so much better music of that sort out there. I agree that the album has its moments, but it's not even close to being indispensable.
I think my problem with it (at the moment, anyway) is that it seems to be trying too much to make them 'proper' songs. The two tracks I like the most (I Am the Resurrection and Fool's Gold - I like a couple of others but those two just stand head and shoulders over the rest) seem to be the two most jam-like songs on the record. I get the feeling that if they'd released an album of just them playing what they felt like, with only a very loose structure tying it all together, I would have loved it. |
I listened one time, but I just couldn't listen, I kept thinking of that douche bag and how much I want him dead.
I wouldn't try to associate fans with the music, no matter how annoying they are. If the fans are dicks or not, how does it effect the music? |

I actually love Thrice for their lyrics in general, though I prefer most of the stuff off Identity Crisis for the most part lyrically above the other albums, as far as meaningful to me. I think one of the strengths in general with the band is their dynamics control, so I know what you mean :) |
