smart blockhead 10-15-2005 11:44 PM

Do you guys see Classic Rock as a time period or a genre of music? I see it more as the 70's era rock music than a type of music.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-15-2005 11:48 PM

It's not a genre at all. It's a classification of diverse Rock that took place during the late 60's and early 70's. It's all about the time period not the sound.

You've never heard of Milli Vanilli? They were that pop duo in the 80's who got their grammy award revoked because they were busted for lipsyncing all of their songs...then one of them commited suicide...ring any bells?

blue3 10-16-2005 01:09 AM

Haha.. Milli Vanilli. One of them commited suicide? I didn't know that..

Leper 10-16-2005 01:11 AM

Ya, pretty sad actually. Imagine being in that situation yourself..

blue3 10-16-2005 01:14 AM

That sucks for him.

Leper 10-16-2005 01:17 AM

Haha, that sounded so cold.

blue3 10-16-2005 01:23 AM
Haha, that sounded so cold.
Hah.. I'm sorry?

Okay, um, I feel bad for that guy who commited suicide. Was that any better?

Leper 10-16-2005 01:31 AM

It sounded much more sincere. Not that I really cared. It just sounded funny, kind of like a "sucks to be him."

blue3 10-16-2005 01:42 AM

Yeah okay.

NP: Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Leper 10-16-2005 01:48 AM
I found some more awesome vinyls the other day:
I found out that my Dad has "The Beatles-Best Of 1967-1970" on vinyl the other day. Such a great collection of songs.

blue3 10-16-2005 02:00 AM

Cool. I have that CD. I only have 3 vinyls :( ..My dad doesn't own any too.

Leper 10-16-2005 02:02 AM

Awesome. My mom bought the Beatles 1962-1966 cassette when I was really young, and I pretty much grew up listening to that. However I figured rather than buy a best of album, I'd rather just collect all the Beatles later albums.

/needs only Yellow Submarine and Revolver

blue3 10-16-2005 02:11 AM

I still need to get Help, A Hard Day's Night, and Beatles for Sale.

Leper 10-16-2005 02:17 AM

Well, I just meant post Rubber Soul Beatles albums. They're music was a lot more album-oriented in that era, rather than singles-oriented like before Rubber Soul. So in that regard I figured there's really no use in anything more than a greatest hits album to cover the early years, am I wrong?

morrissey 10-16-2005 04:04 AM

Personally I prefer the songs from their earlier career (Rubber Soul and before), but their albums were much stronger in the the latter half of their career. It might have something to do with the covers (Please Mr. Postman, Dizzy Miss Lizzy etc. do nothing for me), and there are a lot of garbage songs on all of their early albums. If you took a track or two off Help or A Hard Day's Night, they would be pretty close to 5/5. That being said, their version of "Twist and Shout" is a highlight of Please Please Me and overall the energy of the early songs can't be beat.

Ah what the hell I love everything the Beatles did.

Ulysses 10-16-2005 04:07 AM

Yeah Twist and Shout, in the Cavern Club and similar venues really went off. I'm not a huge fan of their take on Dizzy Miss Lizzy though. Overall I prefer their latter material, Abbey Road, Revolver and the like. I take one of their albums out usually at least once a week and immerse myself, superb music.

morrissey 10-16-2005 04:27 AM

Ah I haven't listened to the Beatles enough in the part year, since coming here I've discovered so much music and I find I don't have time for the old stuff as often. Then again, I spent the better part of my high school years listening to next to nothing besides the Beatles, so I guess this is making up for it.

Revolver is just delicious.
