Sup guys, what'd I miss?

Jeff Beck is sweet.

"Minnie the Moocher" is a awsome song.

robo2448 06-24-2005 10:14 AM

I downloaded a Kraftwerk album a while ago from the YSI thread, couldn't stand it, and deleted it.

/me doesn't like techno and electronic music. I think I'll give Can a chance though.

Broken Arrow 06-24-2005 10:15 AM

I like Beck better than Jeff Beck.....

The Kraftwerk you probably heard wasn't Krautrock. Can is really psychedelic.

I don't remember the name, but it didn't seem psychadelic at all, just technoish. I'll give Can a try if I ever see Tago Mago in a store.

And I missed a lot of discussion last night :upset:

I did too, but it was worth it.

I guess that goes for me too.

irishg 06-24-2005 10:36 AM

Jeff Beck is one of the most original blues artists of all time.

My thoughts exactly...Beck's good and all, but I mean come on.

Woodstock 06-24-2005 10:58 AM

I'm listening to Exile on Main Street by the Stones right now. This album is practically perfect.

lunch998 06-24-2005 10:59 AM
You know it's not as if we've covered all of Classic Rock. Probably a quarter of the psychedelic bands I listin to now a days have never been mentioned (to my knowledge) in this thread. We still have much to cover. I understand you. I used to hate synthesizers I always thought of them as a cheesy technoy sound but they really fit well with psychedelia. (ex. USA)
Oh yea, I'm not trying to say we covered everything. But we have covered bands to the extent that it just seemed likely to me I would have heard about them before.

I actually didn't like that one that much. I love Let it Bleed, though.

robo2448 06-24-2005 11:00 AM

Yes it is. I think I like Sticky Fingers a little more though.

Mick Taylor > Ron Wood

Wood and Richards are still awesome on that album though.

np- Deserted Cities of the Heart

edit- I was talking about Exile, not Let it Bleed. I should have quoted Woodstock's post, but didn't expect 3 posts in 30 seconds.
I don't remember the name, but it didn't seem psychadelic at all, just technoish. I'll give Can a try if I ever see Tago Mago in a store.
Look, Krautrock is Psychedelia mixed with Prog. It's not techno at all.

Woodstock 06-24-2005 11:02 AM

I like it so much because I've never heard these songs before. It's a great album even without hits.

robo2448 06-24-2005 11:04 AM
Look, Krautrock is Psychedelia mixed with Prog. It's not techno at all.
I was talking about Kraftwerk, not Can. What I've heard of Kraftwerk is technoish.

And it's kind of wierd that Exile is often considered the Stones best but has less hits than others. The whole album has a really raw almost grunge feel to it.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-24-2005 11:09 AM

I'm glad I'm starting to see more and more talk about the Stones in here. Begger's Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street was the greatest string of albums released since the Beatles had there string of amazing albums.

lunch998 06-24-2005 11:12 AM

I could pull another Who fanboy move here, but I'm not going to.

Walrus Gumboot 06-24-2005 11:15 AM

So I saw Bob Dylan/ Willie Nelson last night

It was amazing, my friend, her cousin and I managed to get up about 15 feet from the stage, (General admission). He did alot of the old hits but I didn't even recognize them until the end. I forgot to bring my camera, but I am hoping these girls with a camera will e-mail me the pictures, I'm not sure they will remember though, they were pretty wasted

I was about to write Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia trio was the best, you beat me. Beggar's Banquet isn't quite as strong as the other 3 but still great.

I'd say the trio of Who albums, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile, and Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61, and Blonde On Blonde may be the best trios of albums ever. One of the Beatles trios as well, but it would be hard to pick one. Maybe WYWH, Animals, and The Wall by Floyd as well. The list could go on. This would be a fun game to play- vote for strongest trio of albums in a row.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-24-2005 11:17 AM
Kraftwerk pretty much invented techno, and indeed electronica. They were influenced by bands like Can and other Krautrock acts.
I disagree, I think the Sliver Apples should be credited with the creation of electronica.

lunch998 06-24-2005 11:17 AM

You're forgetting Live at Leads.

Sounds awesome.

And The Stones have certainly put out a lot of crap, so has Dylan actually.

Edit- I was thinking studio albums which is why I left out Leeds.

Meh.....the Who are mediocore as far as I'm concerned. Sorry Lunch. :p

Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon could be added on that Floyd string aswell.

lunch998 06-24-2005 11:27 AM

The Who Sell Out, Tommy, Live At Leeds, Who's Next, Quadrophenia is still an impressive stretch, even if you don't like the band.

Edit: I counted Live at Leeds since it was officialy released and used to transform the band's sound as well as keep strong momentum going.

Speaking of which, I haven't listened to Pink Floyd in a long time. But now I'm in a mood for Cream, so Pink Floyd will have to wait.

lunch998 06-24-2005 11:30 AM

Speaking of that, Schyma, did you give those live tracks from Wheels of Fire a listen?

Woodstock 06-24-2005 11:30 AM

Wheels of Fire > Disraeli Gears
