I know what it is I just wanted to start a conversation about it.
Well, from the description I've never heard anything like it, nor do I wish to. Sounds awful fruity.

Lunch 06-23-2005 11:37 PM

Sounds too German for me. Good luck with it though.
Thnx.

I've noticed something lately....classic rock stations seem to be getting liberal with the term "classic". I was driving through Vancouver a while ago, and I heard a Bily Idol song on the classic rock station.

Not that there's anything wrong with Billy Idol. But they call it a classic rock station for a reason.
Yesterday I heard that Santana and Rob Tohmas song that came out like two years ago on my classic rock station.

Kinda reminds me of the skit on SNL with Mike Myers playing the host of German talk show. Sprockets, I think it was called.
Taken from http://www.krautrock.com/.
Sounds like Kraftwerk-y music to me.

/hasn't checked link yet

EDIT: No samples on the website?

Leper 06-23-2005 11:42 PM

does rammstein have elements of krautrock in them? Because they fit some pieces of the description..

JonG 06-23-2005 11:43 PM

I was going to say Rammstein, but I didn't know if they were West Germany and I thought they were 80s.

PinkFreud 06-23-2005 11:44 PM
Yeah, I used to post on that website, I think the lists are pretty good. THen they went to a traditional forum thing and I didn't feel like joining
same here. i did like the quick discussion though. i picked up a lot of new music from there. they are seriously lacking in some areas though.

Rammstein are just industrial metal that happen to be from Germany, I THINK. I'm no krautrock expert.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-23-2005 11:49 PM

Yes, Kraftwerk did have an album or two that could be considered Krautrock.

I thought this bunch of users would be a little more open minded towards such a genre. Haven't you guys ever heard of Tago Mago by Can?

I actually dig that old-school Kraftwerk stuff. Speaking of which, ever heard the song "Get Real Paid" by Beck? There's some Kraftwerk and Can influence in it. I can upload it if you want.

lunch998 06-23-2005 11:52 PM

It's not that I'm not open minded, it's just that if the genre was that good, I probably would have heard about it through all my time in the CR thread.

I figured i'd take a shot seeing as how rammstein is the only German band i know aside from the Scorpions who don't fit the description at all.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-23-2005 11:54 PM

Please do. I've heard alot about how good Beck is but I've never actully heard anything by him.

i dont think theres been much discussion on it. or maybe that was your point.

i should make good threads (or any at all) so i get recognition in rmotm. ive only made one and it was in the bass thread.

Illmatic 06-23-2005 11:56 PM
Please do. I've heard alot about how good Beck is but I've never actully heard anything by him.
He literally changes his influences for like, every album. "Get Real Paid" is off of Midnite Vultures, which for the most part has a funk/Prince influence. But there is definitely old-school electronic-ness that slips into "Get Real Paid"
i dont think theres been much discussion on it. or maybe that was your point.
That was my point. We've covered a lot of ground and I've read basically every page of discussion, and it's never come up.

Nominate me, I made that Who FA. I'm cool, right guys? Right..?

Might have been at the end of May, but it should still count.

Is that not being close minded? You haven't even heard anything from it so how in the hell can you say if it's good or not? The reason why you probably haven't heard about is because Krautrock is almost impossible to find. Tago Mago by Can is the only album you'll find at a record store. (if that)

Leper 06-24-2005 12:00 AM

I personally can't stand Beck.

I said if it was "that good" as in good enough for me to go out of my way to find and put records on my wanted list, it seems more than likely I would have heard about it by now, based on the knowledge of the regs here in nearly all categories of classic rock. I'm not saying it's bad, that would be idiotic of me (since, as you pointed out for me, I haven't heard anything from it).

Obviously if something isn't mentioned that doesn't make it bad, it just seems that with the ground we've covered it would probably have been discussed at some point if people were that blown away by it.

And the synthesizer use as described in the website JPJ posted kind of threw me off, synths often annoy me. Though not all the time. Maybe that is being close-minded, but right now I have a lot of my one type of music that I need to get. I can't afford to be open-minded.

Probably a quarter of the psychedelic bands I listin to now a days have never been mentioned (to my knowledge) in this thread. We still have much to cover. I understand you. I used to hate synthesizers I always thought of them as a cheesy technoy sound but they really fit well with psychedelia. (ex. USA)

Badmoon 06-24-2005 12:20 AM

I've heard Can, I've heard Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and I've heard Amon Duul.

Aside from the occasional Kraftwerk song, I have no interest or liking in any of those Kraut Rock bands. I'd also like to say that Amon Duul's vocalist just may be the most annoying I've ever heard.

And Beck has made a few songs that I like.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-24-2005 12:26 AM

I agree, Amon Duul has the most annoying vocalist ever but the actual music is good none the less. I promise one of you will love Tago Mago but you have to give it at least a chance. I f you love psychedelia I recomend you at leat download a song or two.

BassMasterMike88 06-24-2005 01:07 AM
I personally can't stand Beck.
Well he's kinda off and on, he seems to have bounced around between different sounds and moods over his career.

Glitterati 06-24-2005 01:53 AM

Are we talking about Jeff Beck, or "I'm A Loser" Beck?

np: The Who = Bargain

BludgeonySteve 06-24-2005 09:41 AM

Everyone loves Jeff Beck :). I think we're talking about normal Beck.

And Beck is pretty good :)

You know come to think about it you don't like much psychedelia at all. Stick to Jam and Country Rock. I highly recommend it. :thumb:
