Almost Famous is a great movie, I really enjoy it. The bassist isn't really a character enough to find out who he represents. I only connected the drummer with John Bonham because of looks a little bit, but mostly because of the set.
That's a great movie. You know another movie set in the '70s with good classic rock tunes on the soundtrack? Dazed & Confused.

Not as good as Almost Famous, though.

Lunch 06-23-2005 10:42 PM

Yea D&C is fun, but Almost Famous is a much better movie.

Besides, Sparks is on the Almost Famous soundtrack.

JonG 06-23-2005 10:43 PM

I have the Dazed and Confused soundtrack. It's not bad, not my type of soundtrack though. And is that Lunch898?

You change your avatar a lot. Stop it.

I've never seen Almost Famous all the way through.

Yea, don't worry it's not another n00b.

Well, not really....

I was just about to change it to Neil Young, then I'll keep it.

JonG 06-23-2005 10:57 PM

I think your avatar switches every time you post. I've had 3 in my career at MX.

I can never tell who is posing when Canadian Guy posts. I always associate avatars with users.

I think I'm going to put on Pet Sounds. Anyone else pick up any good classic rock albums lately?

Lunch 06-23-2005 11:00 PM

Not for a while, I've been to poor. Living week to week.

Lunch 06-23-2005 11:02 PM

Wow, you had to download Disraeli Gears? That's an essential.

I loved Almost Famous, never seen all of Dazed and Confused though.

Honestly, I was dissappointed and I'm glad I passed it up on several CD buying occasions. It's 4 outstanding tracks and 7 mediocre ones IMO.

Tracks 3-5 and 11 are useless, but the other 7 are great (World of Pain is growing on me to the point were I consider 8 great songs, but it's easy not to like).

JonG 06-23-2005 11:09 PM

I finally downloaded some Dylan. I'm not really into him.. any songs that will help me change my mind :)

PS : Canuck Guy, check YSI thread..

Outside Woman Blues and Take it Back are alright, but nothing special. They may grow on me though after future listens.

BassMasterMike88 06-23-2005 11:13 PM

Dylan has really lost what he used to have, I saw live awhile back and it was more like a crappy poetry reading then a gig, his opener was pretty talented though i forgot the name. Oh and Almost Famous is an awesome movie.

World of Pain is good IMO. But yeah that last one is....pointless fits perfectally.

Hurricane, Tombstone Blues, Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat, Highway 61 Revisited, From a Buick 6, and I Want You are some favorites.

I'm assuming you know Like a Rolling Stone.
Honestly, I was dissappointed and I'm glad I passed it up on several CD buying occasions. I don't know why Cream gets hailed for the musicanship because I honestly have not heard anything that's that impressive. It's just boring psychedelia-blues. I perfer the Misunderstood a much greater psychedelic blues band.

Lunch 06-23-2005 11:14 PM

I'll admit when I first heard it I probably had a similar reaction as you. That happened to me with most Cream except for a few easy to get into songs (White Room, Sunshine). But now I'm a huge Cream fan and love almost all their songs. They always have garbage on their albums, which does annoy me, but the great tracks outweigh them.

Scyhma: Wheels of Fire Disc II (well, three of the songs, Traintime is a waste of time) puts them well ahead of most other rock bands in the musicianship category.

Did you now? Strange how I don't remember these things.

Thnx.

I've noticed something lately....classic rock stations seem to be getting liberal with the term "classic". I was driving through Vancouver a while ago, and I heard a Bily Idol song on the classic rock station.

Not that there's anything wrong with Billy Idol. But they call it a classic rock station for a reason.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-23-2005 11:18 PM

I will download that tonight. What are the 3 bad songs?

Lunch 06-23-2005 11:19 PM
I will download that tonight. What are the 3 bad songs?
If you're talking to me, there are three good songs and one bad song. The three good songs are Crossroads, Spoonful, and Toad. The Spoonful and Toad are both 16 minutes or so. I understand you'll find Toad boring, but it does show Baker's musicianship.

Will do.^ :)

Does anyone here know anything about Krautrock (genre)?
A genre of electronic, psychedelic, progressive and/or avant garde music originating from West Germany in the late 1960s and 1970s, often using electric guitars, primitive synthesizers, and pre-recorded audio tape to create sonic, droning soundscapes.
I know what it is I just wanted to start a conversation about it.
