i preordered the cd, shirt, and signed poster combo. wasn't a bad deal, i think. plus pth is one of the bands i'm more inclined to spend money on.
seeing them in april too : D |
I'm not sure if i'm gonna pre-order. it'd be cool to have the lithograph because the art is awesome (kudos to arif's grandpap) but idk, the canadian pre-order is like $5 to ship and I'm poor. I could always pick it up I guess.
|
yeah the art is pretty nice on it
think you can get them to write "to aaron" on my poster? haha |
no, i have an autographed gallop meets the earth one and it's just a bunch of signatures. i should probably reiterate that i'm really not that close with the band. i hang out with arif sometimes but that's about it, otherwise i just used to be around a lot because they used to play basically once a month so i have a lot of useless trivia knowledge about them.
(not a dig at you, but just sayin'. their fan-site has me sourced as a close personal friend of the band and today someone i've known since i was like 12 stumbled into a conversation where someone was mentioning me by name) i signed a poster for some girl at a show once it was pretty hilarious. |
I asked Tim to sign my Fortress vinyl after I met him and chat him for like 10 minutes. He just wrote Tim on it. dick :(
|
isn't it the good conversation that matters most?
|
yeah man of course, i'm kidding. I'm not going to show it to my friends and be like WOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIM FROM PTH SIGNED THIS CHECK IT OUT. All that matters is I see that plain Tim and remember meeting him.
|
i was kidding too
id' say he coulda signed your name but it's pretty hard to spell isn't it? |
eh not really, didn't care tho I was like uh hold on I'll grab a pen from the bar. then he just put tim. they were supporting propagandhi so most people weren't even visiting their merch stand.
|
ya remember when i saw Tim with his face all covered in hair you can still see his kind eyes..... (saw them feb 09)
|
i'd kill someone in the face to see them play with propagandhi
|
I take back everything I said, C'est La Vie sounded great live (I just saw them yesterday in Budapest, Hungary). Maybe even better than some of the older songs. Rody was in his element. I think he also mentioned that Dunsel is about the music industry. All in all, they put on a hell of a show, the other bands could only hope to be as good some day as they are.

It was one of the best shows I've seen, line-up wise. (-attack attack) |

Does this mean that there isn't even a vague concept for the new album? |
They said that when they started writing it afaik. No concept, for which I'm glad. There wasn't really one on Fortress, so I'm glad they've just explicitly stated it this time. It's not to say it won't still have strong lyrics, as C'est La Vie has proven. I think they're great, really clever.
Really want to hear this properly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXCqPZq-p8o#t=02m35s |
By the way, the promos have been already sent out, am I right? Too bad it probably won't leak early. Neither did Fortress. :(

Some have been, some not. I've only seen a few people on Twitter say they got it. I recall Fortress leaked about 1 week early. |
Fortress didn't leak. It "leaked" one day early, but that was just because it came out a day earlier in Japan.
Most promos have not been sent out. |
Pth rule

Ha-ha, Rody and Arif talking tattoos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbxzeJqi2Lg a short but pretty hilarious video

Does that mean that you like it, or is it the other way? Really digging the new song. And with the next song on the album apparently featuring Jadea Kelly, I can only imagine how awesome an one-two punch this could turn out to be. |
I like it a lot. It's a grower, but it's a really peculiar sound. It's really, really tech-y, moreso than Fortress, so C'est La Vie isn't the best barometre, but it is pretty indicative of how melodic it gets. And Jadea Kelly's part is unreal, she sounds super good with Rody.
It'll be hard for people to get over the bit of a dynamic shift they've taken though. Not as heavy, a lot proggier and Rody's singing his ass off the entire time. The lyrics are pretty good but definitely not as bookish or serious. Some of the stuff he's singing about is flat out ridiculous. |
Haha awesome. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Not that it really matters, but does Rody use harsher vocals than on C'est La Vie?, cause it seemed some people were disappointed by the lack of screams/growls on the song. |
There's no harsh vocals at all on the album. At all. The closest he comes is he sometimes goes a little dry, like Keith Buckley I guess. There's this background growl in Tapestry but it sounds pitch-shifted. It's mostly just him singing his ass off. He really stepped up his vocals for this, he sounds awesome. But if you hate his voice, well, you'll hate the album.
When they were still finishing up recording, someone told me, "it's basically just Rody being really sassy the entire time", which is pretty much true. |
I guess he's just Rody being Rody, well minus the harsh vocals. He sounds amazing on C'est La Vie so I'm definitely excited about the new album.
|
Tyler,
Can you tell me anything about the song with the lyric "Sing with the Devil's Choir"? Ever since I heard Rody sing it on the Studio Update, I've been really into it. |
That kind of makes me angry. Makes me feel like they took the harsh vocals out to appeal to more people, which is smart, but annoying.

That's a stupid assumption to make. They took them out because they didn't want to use them. The new stuff might have a wider appeal because of how coherent is but it's also much more technical, so it's not like they're compromising themselves. They just didn't go heavier: I said a while ago it wouldn't be what people expect. That's what I meant. It's hard to explain the sound, but it's kind of like Kezia meets Fortress. I guess?
Tyler, Can you tell me anything about the song with the lyric "Sing with the Devil's Choir"? Believe it or not, a lot of the song seems to be about drinking:
"the gin in this bottle, just don't let him drown. the next lesson you might swallow might be hard to keep down. taste the penalty of the blazing fire, taste the penalty, sick with the devil's choir"

"Gin, always the Gin. Always take on on the chin. The devil dogs and scorpions peel away and wear my skin"
There's a note that sounds a lot like "that" one in Cemetery Gates. You guys sure you want the spoilers? I'd say a lot of the little surprises are worth waiting for. There's at least one I will absolutely not spoil though. I don't really mind or anything, though I probably won't be going as detailed as this if you want to know anything else. |

I'm not saying I wanted it to be heavier and I didn't really try to predict what they were gonna do, but I didn't think they'd take out the harsh vocals. I mean if its better songwriting than Fortress, I'm sure I'll be satisfied. |
As a vocalist, I think you'll still really appreciate what he's doing on this album, if not more than on Fortress. It's not as varied but it's way, way more powerful and well done.

Yeah I was really digging the vocals on the new song. I'm hoping it leaks, but knowing PTH that won't happen. |
Sex Tapes is actually (sort of) about leaks, hah.
|
But if you hate his voice, well, you'll hate the album.
The slight emo yelp in his clean vocals is what hooked me to begin with. I did like the growls though... Has Rody quit smoking? I have to imagine that singing his ass off touring on this new album will take a lot more wind than before. |

Kinda wish I could get a refund on the concert tickets I bought. This band had so much potential. Fuck it, guess I have to make my own band now. |
hahaha
