It's bad. You were better off just downloading it and then if for some insane reason you liked it, then buying it. Oh well. For me, Slayer up to Divine Intervention is pure excellence.
|
EXACTLY!! UGH.
That's why I dunno what to expect. Bet it's like GHUA. Coz some people liked that, most didn't as much as earlier work, but it could have been worse. Lol.
I don't have GHUA so i can't compare it to that but I'd say that its a mix between Reign In Blood and Seasons. This cd is so good. I'm trying not to play it out but it will happen and that will be a sad day. |
The new album is pretty average, but it's nowhere near as bad as the previous two albums. It has it's moments.
Overall I'd give it about 40-50%. |
I really like Flesh Storm, but don't care for the rest.
|
I almost bought it but stopped myself just in time. I'm glad I didn't; I like CI but I'd rather save my money for new Deicide next week.
|
Indeed, the new Deicide owns.
|
Does anyone else really like breakdown at the end of Catatonic? Its awesome.
|
I got Seasons In The Abyss and South Of Heaven today.
Not listened yet... can't be arsed I'm eating curry pies. soo good. Anyway, pointess post. |
South of Heaven is great, and Seasons is ok.
|
Seasons is possibly their best album.
|
Seasons = Reign > Hell Awaits > Show No Mercy > CI > Divine Intervention > SoH for me. I'm not putting in the rest, and the only one I havn't heard is HtC, which I should probably go and get now.
I find SoH a bit boring really, it sounds really flat. The title track is excellent until you hear the live version on Live Decade of Aggression, which whups it's arse, and Mandatory Suicide is the only other killer song on there. |
Soh behind CI? Have you lost your mind?
|
Nope, it's more my style of music and the production alone makes it better. SoH, as I explained in the post you obviously ignored the rest of, sounds very flat, and too slow. The verses in the title track should be at least 1.5 times faster, like in the Decade of Aggression version (which kicks all kinds of arse).
|
Damn fucking right you should get Haunting The Chapel, it's their finest hour.
|
Hell yes it is.
|
Damn fucking right you should get Show No Mercy, it's their finest hour.
The first 4 by Slayer are a necessity I think, after that, it's a matter of how much of a fan you are.
|
I would say first 5 by Slayer. I don't like South of Heaven much but I really dig Seasons in the Abyss, which seems to be a crazy opinion by Slayer fan standards.
|
For the first five plus HTC, I'd go:
HTC > SNM > HA > Seasons >>>>>> Reign >> SoH |
All I know is right now, I'm listening to one kickass song.
NP Antichrist If I had to put them in order, it'd be a strong tie between Show No Mercy and RIB, and then Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, and last but not least Seasons. That order changes a lot though. |
The Antichrist \m/
|
SoH > Seasons > RiB > SNM > CI > HA > HTC (Its an EP. But those three songs indvidually = bliss) > DI > GHUA > DiM > UA
|
SoH sucked on epic levels
|
Fools! South of Heaven is great.
|
Its roadkill. For serious.
|
No, it was a good album. Most people are missing the point of its entire existence.
|
which is
|
It was experimental. When Slayer came out with Show No Mercy, it was their first and it was really thrashy, demonic/satanic lyrics. After Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits had the same concept: hell-induced lyrics, satanic image, along with a whole thrashy album. When South Of Heaven came out it was different. Spill The Blood is so hugely overarted. It just showed a whole different side to Slayer that hadn't been seen on their first two albums.
People think of the whole album as trash because "It wasn't up to par with the thrashy tempo of their two earlier releases". Some songs actually had a meaning with current events, not to say they're better for having lyrics that are focused on politcal aspects/controversial issues, hence Silent Scream. I can see where people can find the idea of the production to the album to suck, but the idea an concept of the album is what made it so great. |
Nay, South of Heaven is a masterpiece. I worship every song off that album.
but the idea an concept of the album is what made it so great.
I don't believe it was a concept album, but it was the only album that they actually sat down and planned out. They knew they couldn't outdo the tempo that was present on 'Reign in Blood', so they decided to try out something new.
I can see where people can find the idea of the production to the album to suck,
I honestly can't figure that one out yet. I think the production is great on that, and I especially love Tom's voice. Some people might think it sounds flatter (his voice), but I feel it sounds smoother, and more sinister, giving it more of a Criminal/Evil tinge to it...
Spill The Blood is so hugely overarted.
....? You mean under-rated? ...'Live Undead' makes me orgasm. |
the new record rules you guys. what's wrong with it? it's classic slayer back!
|
South of Heaven was just a slight change in direction from Reign In Blood. I wouldn't say anything Slayer have done is experimental in the slightest.
...'Live Undead' makes me orgasm.
Yeah, but it would be much better if it were actually live. |
okay, any metalhead will INSTANTLY recognize the riff from Raining Blood, or Angel Of Death. I like the riff from Silent Scream and also the intro riff from Jihad bc its so odd.
|
Yeah, but it would be much better if it were actually live.
Good call :thumb:
the new record rules you guys. what's wrong with it? it's classic slayer back!
WORD TO THAT |
Hahaha, yeah, I meant it's underrated.
|
Live Undead makes me not want to be a Slayer fan it's so cheesy!!
About 'Christ Illusion' it's definetly there best since seasons, better than divine i'd say (even though Dittohead is one of my favourite Slayer songs) diabolous was just embarrasing (Stain of mind the exception) GHUA generally was average however i'm a huge fan of disciple and New faith. Has anyone heard the older version of 'Here comes the pain'?? When I d'loaded it it says it's from an album called 'WCW mayhem' so it must be off a wrestling soundtrack. Anyone know? |
I think it appeared on the WCW Mayhem videogame or something like that. Im not so sure though.
|
Hmm, well it's much better than the one on GHUA.
|
Live Undead makes me not want to be a Slayer fan it's so cheesy!!
Ohhh how I hate you now. South of Heaven (album) is Dave's best work. Agree? |
I would agree with that.
|
Maybe Christ Illusion
