Yeah definitely. Sometimes I'll leave my computer whilse listening to an album and just let it play through...

"Meh, they need the bump on my last.fm." :p
I do that sometimes too.

But it's good, it sometimes forces me to listen to different stuff than normal.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-10-2007 01:58 PM

Oh yeah, I've done that too.

And you do not have the plugin deal that last.fm has for iPods?

Tyler 02-10-2007 01:59 PM

I'd never skew my charts. My old ones were, so that's why I reset them. My top play was PTH at like, 2000 plays, and the second highest was like 300. Actually, that was pretty accurate...most of those plays were around the time that I started getting demos from Kezia, hah.

But seriously, I dont see a problem with trying to make-up for lost plays that I listened to on my iPod, but leaving it on just to try to balance out your charts is stupid. Just reset the bloody things.

It's not official, so I was weary. The official client should have iPod support soon, apparently.

Apocalypticon 02-10-2007 01:59 PM

Sometimes I get the feeling I'm addicted to last.fm.

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:00 PM

Since the update before the last, I find their recommendation system to be totally useless. I used to use it a lot.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-10-2007 02:01 PM
But seriously, I dont see a problem with trying to make-up for lost plays that I listened to on my iPod, but leaving it on just to try to balance out your charts is stupid. Just reset the bloody things.
But then you don't have cool massive playcounts. :p

Apocalypticon 02-10-2007 02:02 PM

I never use their recommendation system. Because they keep recommending me crappy BM bands like Cradle of Filth and Deathspell Omega and annoying indie bands like Modest Mouse. Their rating systems and compatibilty system seem really off alot of the time.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-10-2007 02:04 PM

Yeah, the one time I used the reccomendation system, it went something like this:

"Oh, we see that Hot Cross was your third highest played artist last week, why dont you try some....MORE HOT CROSS!"

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:05 PM

I don't even know how people can have upwards of 300 plays for an artist a week and still have like, the second and third plays at over 50. I'm on the computer 24/7 and I'm always listening to music and my charts rarely push 40.
Unique Artists: 20
Total Tracks: 164
Total Plays: 171
Which results in
1 ▲19 Converge 26
2 ▲47 Against Me! 16
3 ▲1 The Dillinger Escape Plan 15
3 Burn To Black 15
5 Propagandhi 14
6 ▲43 Prince 13
7 ▲6 Clutch 12
8 ▲12 Sigh 11
9 Protest The Hero 10
10 Common 9
That was a slow week, but still.

I use last.fm to keep track, not to impress people. I think people that try to bloat their charts are not only missing the point, but they're compromising the music on top of that.

And their recommendation system used to be great.
Oh yeah, I've done that too.

I don't have an iPod.

I have an iAudio.

And Apple stole the "i" thing from Cowon btw, not the reverse.

NP: Kyuss - 50 Million Year Trip

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-10-2007 02:08 PM

I've never had more than like 80 in a week and that was only when I was trying to learn like every Tool song ever on guitar.

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:09 PM
I don't have an iPod.
iAudio came out in 2001, the iMacs came out in 1998. GG.

And this summer I had 171 Into Eternity plays in one week :S

Eliminator 02-10-2007 02:10 PM

my charts are pretty accurate

some bands i don't listen to a lot on my computer, and some of the stuff is just when i get into a band a lot for a few weeks and then get bored

Apocalypticon 02-10-2007 02:14 PM

I don't think I've ever listened to more than 350 tracks in one week. I usually get to around 200-225 which usually only leads to something like:

Unique Artists: 30
Total Tracks: 167
Total Plays: 209

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:15 PM

I'm really interested in seeing tomorrow's update. The top 2 will be something like,

Lily Allen - 80
Sigh - 50

And the rest is a total toss up.

Eliminator 02-10-2007 02:15 PM

last week was

Unique Artists: 36
Total Tracks: 295
Total Plays: 548

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:16 PM

yeah but lim you're probably on the computer a lot more than most people.

Eliminator 02-10-2007 02:17 PM

ya probably

I'm interested to see what mine will be like, cause I really can't remember what I've been listening to except Do Make Say Think. So I'll probably have like 30 plays of them or something as my top and then everything else will be a suprise.

Eliminator 02-10-2007 02:18 PM

my overall charts have already updated so i have a clue

I think Cowon had the "i" thing before the first iAudio came out though.

I know I read that somewhere.

Tyler 02-10-2007 02:25 PM

You read wrong. Cowon focused entirely on software until 2000, that software being jetAUDIO, and like I said, the iMac came out in 1998 and was announced much earlier.

Okay, I must have read it off a bad source.

Whoever came up with it first, it doesn't matter. The iAudios are kick ass players.

Anglachel 02-10-2007 03:10 PM

I'm pretty sure my top weekly artist for this week will be Kalmah again

With at least 100+ listens ( in the past 3 weeks, I've scrobbled at least 900 Kalmah tracks, and I only started listening to them three weeks ago. They are currently my top artist with 800 and some scrobbles)

Sleepy 02-10-2007 03:20 PM

I've been hitting a lot of Queens of the Stone Age lately, so I'm expecting them to be on top.

publicastration 02-10-2007 03:21 PM

Damn, Kalmah isn't that good.

NP: Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky

Tyler 02-10-2007 03:23 PM

I've barely heard Kalmah, but I wasn't impressed.

We are blessed with your almighty opinion, O Glorious God of Musics!
I've barely heard Kalmah, but I wasn't impressed.
I'm not a fan, either. Some people like them because they're like Children of Bodom without the bullshit.

Tyler 02-10-2007 03:25 PM

Children of Bodom sucks though. Wintersun is okay and so is Nother, but that style of music is generally uninteresting.

Stormrider 02-10-2007 03:27 PM

I havn't heard any Norther, Wintersun are decent(last time I listened), Bodom are okay, and Kalmah I've heard like 10 seconds from a song.

:p
