Isn't that the one that was really contriversal, and most people hated?

Well, a lot of other jazz musicians and fans were angry because he was playing rock (well, jazz/rock fusion more accurately). Kinda how all the folkies hated Bob Dylan for playing with a band. But really it's a groundbreaking and very innovative album, one of the first fusion albums.

Yeah, that's about it. It's agreat album but a lot of people dislike it because of its jazz/rock fusion style, which is quite sad. Purists are pretty annoying.

Alright, I'll have to give it a listen. My parents have almost all of Davis's albums somewhere around the house.

I haven't been here in forever, so whats with the halloween'd out avatars?

Also, I was thinking:

what band you describe as most closely sounding like Pink Floyd? I was just wondering because I have a friend who likes Pink Floyd a lot, but not much other classic rock.

magicbus 10-14-2005 01:39 PM

Things about today:

We took our Beatles test (aced), then we started our Dylan stuff in class. When we finished listening to "Ballad of a Thin Man", our teacher asked in what Beatles song it was referenced to (Yer Blues). I was the only one to answer, so I got bonus points

And then I just got a new Revolver shirt from the mall.

Do they have to be classic?

TheDMV 10-14-2005 02:04 PM
Do they have to be classic?
No, I wouldn't think so.

jpj 10-14-2005 02:08 PM

I can't think of any.

I also cannot think of any.

Ehh, that album just wasn't Jazz it seemed, it was too fusion-y.

Well, the try-outs went well. He didn't have me play chords though! However, the peice he gave me I had mastered after 1-2 trys :D

I learn whether I'm in or not next Friday. I'm confident :D

Oh shit, I didn't read the following discussion. :upset:

Walrus Gumboot 10-14-2005 02:44 PM

Jazz band was a breeze for me, I haven't played in 3 years and couldn't read the music but I was still in. The only problem is that the other two trombonists are serious pricks. One is a nerdy prick, and the other is an arrogant prick

It's a collection of a bunch of rare neo psychedelia.
EDIT2: Does anyone else really dislike the Dylan/Baez duets on Live '64? It just doesn't sound right to me, she has a nice voice and all, but it just doesn't mix well.
I don't like the mix well either. Joan Beaz's beautiful voice and Bob Dylan's rough vocals aren't the best of pairs but I'm not complaining I think the rest of the concert is fantastic none the less.

Edit: I'm starting a new trend......an early one.....but new one none the less.

PinkFreud 10-14-2005 02:50 PM

bitches brew is good but i prefer a tribute to jack johnson. two songs long. its so awesome.

i played sax in jazz band. but i hated it and skipped out frequently. we didnt even play real jazz, it was like, pop jazz. i dont know. it wasnt good. and the conductor was a prick.

I might try out for Jazz Band this year. I'll probably play Clarinet (I think they have a position for it) because I don't want to have to lug my amp to practice. Plus, I'm better on it than on Guitar.

My school has a blues band. I never really considered joining it because I'm not good enough at guitar yet.

Anyone like Talking Heads?

PinkFreud 10-14-2005 03:01 PM

i wish my school had had a blues band. i couldve drummed or guitared it.

the talking heads are cool.

Really? That's amazingly cool. Do they read music and have a conductor, or do the improvise and have a supervisor?

I would love to play harmonica for a reason

Nice, I gotta dig up my old Neil/Frosty avatar. I think Morgan/Raffeal is doing wekll rthough.
Anyone who's never listened to Talking Heads should check out Remain In Light...that's a really good album that has a lot of diverse influences. It's kind of funky for the first half and then more openly Eno-influenced in the second half. Both are great.

I never really got the fuss about Can, and Krautrock in general really...Tago Mago is great up to the end of Halleluwah, where it suddenly plunges downhill for me. Aumgn is virtually unlistenable whenever I put it on.
I'm really getting into Remain In Light. My favorite is Born Under Punches, it has such a cool intro.

It seems that and Talking Heads '77 are their most popular work, but one of their more underrated albums is Speaking In Tongues.

I only listin to them when I'm either too lazy to change the album or extremly intoxicated. The first 4 songs are fantastic though.

Some Krautrock can be really good if you're in the mood. It took me awhile to really catch it but So Far by Faust can be really beautiful.

Broken Arrow 10-14-2005 06:52 PM

The song Mushrooom by Can is cool.

Anyways I just learned Imagine(kinda) on piano.

My new favorite song

So I went to my friend's Halloween party as "That Famous Beatnik Poet", and there were two bands, one made out of seniors and one of freshman. The freshman were surprisingly vastly superior to the seniors. I realized that I had a couple of harmonicas so we played a little blues in E, which was alot of fun. It was funny because I sounded like **** but everyone else thought it was brilliant

It's really great when the humble little freshmen are so much better than the arrogant seniors

It didn't help that my best friend missed the chapter in the book that said "Don't molest the keyboardist during a set"

Krabsworth 10-14-2005 08:57 PM
