KEA vocals kinda anoy me nowadays. My favorite are from AJFA. Although, I've heard very minimal stuff after the black album.
LiKe St. Anger new? or 90's new?
I really have never been picky about his voice...I love the KEA vocals I love the Black album Vocals the St Anger vocals...so that covers most everything.
read man...90s |
His 86-93 vocals were the best. And yes, the KEA vocals are a bit annoying at times, that's why I listen to live Seek and Destroy, Four Horsemen, and etc a lot more than the album version.
Lars' drumming does not suck! he's the second best drummer in the greatest metal band to ever live.
I disagree to an extent. He doesn't suck, but it seems like sometimes he's clueless. And the day James is gone, so is the rest of Metallica. There will never be another singer.
You want Kirk to lay off the wah when that's all he's ever used? If there is no wah then that's James doing the solo.
Wrong on about 20 counts.
Kirk couldn't even write solos for the last album, and the solos on albums before it were all just wah whored sh*t.
You're absolutely right!!! I knew it wasn't Lars that wouldn't let him solo! |
James does solos as well Joe...and Kirk did write solos for St. Anger. Telling Kirk to lay off a wah is like telling Zakk Wylde to lay off of pinch harmonics and overdrive....not going to happen

I'm aware James does solos. He did Nothing Else Matters, Orion, and a few others. But I'm pretty sure if you listen to 75% of the songs before the Black Album you won't find any wah, specifically in his greatest solos. And even in some of his greatest wah solos he does a great job at it. If you hear The Struggle Within solo, you'll know what I mean. But you're right, NOW telling him is like Wylde getting rid of those
and Kirk did write solos for St. Anger.
Yes he did because he got bored. Lars wouldn't let them be on the album. He did the St. Anger solo only live. |
Kirk has used a wah since Kill 'Em All
|
Kirk has used a wah since Kill 'Em All
I realize that, that doesn't mean he's used it in every song. Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton have used wah pedals since they were invented but they didn't use them in every song. Only when the Black Album came out did he start using it nearly all the time. He still uses regular distortion in most of his live and recorded solos. |
They pretty much use there amps distortion but Kirk uses an Ibanez TS-9 (overdrive) for his solos. James does use pedals since he doesn't like the sound but he has a custom rack eq from Mesa and they used TC Electronic G Majors for St. Anger
Distortion always starts with the amp. Pedals just sit on top of the sound. They don't feel like a full part of it, just some fuzz on top. You can fiddle with parametric EQs and all that **** for days, but it still won't have the smooth distortion of an amp. The last time I used a distortion pedal was on Ride the Lightning. It was an Ibanez Tube Screamer, like Kirk uses. It really helps his solos cut through, but it puts a ****ty coating on smooth rhythm tones, and it was hard to not make it sound like a pedal
|
That's all very true, yes, but what does that have to do with Kirk and using the wah pedal?
|
I'm just saying.
If anyone would like to know were I've gotten all this information check out http://www.freewebs.com/montyjay/montyjayframes.html |
Yea we know all that...
Joe it's great when you get on here. |
Yea we know all that...
Joe it's great when you get on here.
 I feel special. I haven't been on here in a few weeks. So where's Sundance this year? I just found on Metallica.com that they're playing at the Sundance Festival but I haven't looked into it at all.
I'm just saying.
Ok. I actually agree with James. My amp's distortion (the Line 6) is so much better than my pedal (and vice versa for my old Fender amp). My pedal, with the amp's distortion, just adds fuzz, no volume or distortion added... |
change of subject:
ive been really likin breadfan lately, and i was wondering do u all know what a breadfan is? Im sure its not someone who is a fan of bread. |

yeah I'm the same way. I find it really hard to pick out effects because I don't like how the sound sits on top rather then holding my amps tone. True bypass is so hard to find for a good price. A breadfan is (guessing based of lyrics) is a rich person |

"Brining home the bread" |

A breadfan is (guessing based of lyrics) is a rich person
Same. The common effects are fine but a distortion pedal is hard for me to pick. Also my Dunlop Crybaby doesn't go over so well with my Line 6 but it's absolutely amazing with my Fender. Bringin' home the dough!!!... to make bread?? I don't know. www.dictionary.com :thumb: I can play the Creeping Death solo on keyboard :D |
Yea that's what I took breadfan to mean.
If I use pedal effects I put my amp on clean...never cared for distortion on distortion..then again maybe if I had a noise gate that would help. Joe: Post that up here Please! I wan to hear what it sounds like. So in the car today...I'm listening to the radio they play some Tallica then the DJ gets on and starts talking about Metallica....the song they played was Until it sleeps...and he said it was off the S&M album....but what they really played was No leaf clover....wow then he said that the reason Metallica was recording again was because they saw A7X play in san fran... I wanted to call him up and pick on him...but my phone was at my house. |
Why would A7X want to make them record? I seriously want to kill the DJ now.
I think I'm going to get that pedal modder (Kelly) to mod my Dunlop Wylde wah for a true bypass. The tone kicks *** with my chorus pedal (MXR M-134) but alone it kind of leaks through. The sweet spots are killer though. |
That DJ is retarded. Maybe A7X inspired them somewhat but I doubt they made them record. It's not like Metallica is afraid of competition at all.
|
maybe the DJ just meant that metallica saw A7X in concert and thought "aw good times" or something and thought they should start recording and touring with new material again?
if this is true, our hopes for a good album may be crushed :upset: |
I liked A7X's new album. If Metallica's new one sounds like that then great.
|
I dunno, even if A7X's album WAS good (I've only heard a few singles), i don't think metallica should try and sound like it. old school metallica please.
|
They need to get back to their grass roots, old school thrash KIll 'Em All baby. If they something like the old days it will rock my socks off
|
I think those days are gone. If it does sound like old Metallica then great. Personally, I doubt they'll ever make another record like KEA. It'll be more Load/Black Album.
|

I agree. MAYBE a touch of justice? MAYBE! so this thread is kinda going in circles, we need some news to discuss :/ have all you guys seen the metallica recording studio tour? |
