Arise was decent, it cannot compare to Morbid Visions though.

Taste_My_Scythe 09-29-2005 07:14 AM

I'm listening to Borknagar for the first time right now...and I really like them. :D I've heard the name, but I've never heard any songs. I'm listening to Gods of My World on launchcast.

So I went to go see The Phantom of the Opera last night...the play. It was amazing. I mean, I've loved the music for ages and the movie was great....but seeing it live and hearing it live was ten times better. For example. Michael Crawford - the original Phantom - his voice wavers when he holds a voice...you can hear the operatic tone of his voice. But the man I saw play the Phantom last night was brilliant. In the song Music of the Night (which is one of my favorites) he held that one note flawlessly and still. I can't even explain it, but it was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Overall...it was a brilliant performance.

Didn't Vintersorg used to sing for them? If so, gg... I love the V man.

i've never heard of Old Man's Child, are they good?

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:00 AM

You know, that's what reviews are for, I tell you if they are good when you read them. But yes, they are good, if you like metal.

"Axe" 09-29-2005 09:02 AM

i do. i'll leave now.

EDIT: i was just trying to start some converstation , sorry. i wont bother you again.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:06 AM

You don't have to leave, you just don't need to say silly things.

"Axe" 09-29-2005 09:16 AM

I bought this last week and its, well, odd.

It doesn't really sound like what Fear Factory used to be, nor does it sound anything like that of Archetype.
Now, Transgression is defined by the words:
A violation of a law, command, or duty
Which is exactly what this whole album seems to be, it breaks the mind set of what "we" though Fear Factory was, but like alot of laws, the consequences of them being broken isn't a good thing.

I can't get my head around this album. It doesn't start all that strongly with the first track being somewhat light in comparrison to previous works however it returns to what they were known for, slightly, up to about track 4. Track 5 comming through, to me, as a heavier version of Invisible Wounds for some reason.

Then. Wow. It takes a very unexpected turn, but, as unexpected, as odd and as strange as that turn is it proves to be my favourite track on the disc.
6. Echo Of My Scream
Burton sounds somewhat like a mix between "Custom" and the singer for Pitchshifter who I forget the name of.

Very light in comparrison to the rest of their "older" work.
It continues like this, Supernova sounds almost Foo's esque, while New Promis is just plain poor.

Then, a U2 cover, wtf??? thats not brilliant to say the least.
And a Killing Joke cover, while "alright", is very repetitive. Not sure of the acuracy of the later as I've not heard the original.

The last track, Moment Of Imapct, a possible 2nd favourite track rekindles some of that lost Fear Factory flame but still sounds half baked and much too mass market.

All in all, about 4 "good" songs on this album and alot of stand out songs but most stand out for the wrong reasons.
It confirms, for me anyway, that Fear Factory are no longer going up hill and that what is fairly mainstream metal was better in its earlier stages than now.

On a plus side, the album artwork is nice and the free live disc is a good addition if quite poorly recorded with a questionable track listing from Archetype.

More of a review there than discussion starter but...discuss anyway.
Since I said review now - 4/10.

i'm gonna make this into a review when i get my real account back.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:23 AM

You might wanna put just a tad more info in that. But it's an alright review, overall.

will do. it's not a finished work yet.

Bartender 09-29-2005 09:29 AM

It makes an effort to say more than "this song is good, that song has a good riff, etc", so yeah, a good start.
I also missed my first class yesterday. I got all the way to the shower door before evaluating my progress and coming to the conclusion of "Fuck it" and retreating back to bed :upset:
I did that most of last year. It almost got me kicked out :) Luckily Dr Francks is the coolest director of undergraduate studies the world has ever known.

I kind of wish I'd made more of an effort in my first year now, because my timetable for the first half of this semester is excellent almost to the point of being a joke - for all but every second Thursday, I get to pull a Descartes and "meditate" in bed until late morning.

I've done that lots of times. Some days you really don't feel it, and you just want to continue sleeping.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:37 AM

There was a period that I would never attend classes before noon. :upset:
