"no no no no no... there goes terry schiavo like a fish gone down a toliet bowl."

Possibly the greatest line in S&L history right there. :)

TojesDolan 12-03-2006 09:50 PM

Nah it's OK. Let's just discuss indie music, underrated poets and everything is back to normal.

Surf 12-03-2006 09:53 PM

Marvell is an underrated poet. I only really love one of his poems, but its good enough to make up for it. See; user title.

slack 12-03-2006 09:56 PM

See look what you've done, Tojes. :|

I only like the wildly overrated poets, like Bukowski.

Surf 12-03-2006 10:08 PM

There isn't much love for old poets. Marvell is like 1600's. That's one of the reasons that lots of people like modern poets like Bukowski; they've had old style poets pushed on them all through school (especailly Shakespeare) and when they read Bukowski or Duffy or Plath they find it much more accessable and easier to relate to. I like Marvell - try out 'to his coy mistress'.

Migraines 12-03-2006 11:27 PM

Bukowski may be overrated...but I still like him.
John Dunn as well.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-03-2006 11:38 PM

Ginsberg for the win and I don't care if his style is simple, I love me some Langston Hughes.

Anyone dig some Dylan Thomas?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 12-03-2006 11:39 PM

Chew on this losers,
I have won the lottery,

Migraines 12-04-2006 12:39 AM
Anyone dig some Dylan Thomas?
He's ok, but vastly over-rated.

Do Not Go Gentle is the most over-quoted poem ever, Under Milk Wood is very good though. And Death Shall Have No Dominion is a great example of a villenelle.

slack 12-04-2006 12:27 PM

I dunno, I like anything that has a little dirt in it. I've been on some poetry boards where people just trashed Bukowski, though.

Surf 12-04-2006 12:31 PM

Bukowski was so proliferate (or some similar word) that he wrote hundreds of poems, some good, alot bad. I was told by a friend writing his dissertation on Bukowski's work that he would sit at his desk of an evening, and just write. He never edited or proof read his work, just got rid of alot. I like Bukowski's work, or at least what I've read by him. He definitely has a little dirt in him.

slack 12-04-2006 12:37 PM

Prolific* :p

I envy people that can write good stuff on the first try (ahem, jason). It's ridiculous how long it takes me to write something decent.

Nightvision 12-04-2006 04:37 PM

Hmm, there are downsides as well, such as the massive amounts of time between pieces at the moment. Plus, if one of mine is bad, it just gets scrapped. :-/

TojesDolan 12-04-2006 04:45 PM

The point of it all is, I think, posting a lot and don't care about other people's opinion. That way you earn a medal in this forum. =)

slack 12-04-2006 07:18 PM

Are you being cynical again, Mr. Tojes?

Anyway, I think you should know I think your poem's title is brilliant. Tmise = Time-ise = demise of time.

Like whoa.

i am the robots 12-04-2006 08:12 PM

Yo d00ds, I'm trying to break away from the genericness of my writing but I think I'm digging a deeper hole, behold:

Attention seems to be a bit short of pale soft fingers that reach for notoriety.
Offense is a word that people hope to greet in hand with spite.
Fermenting the poisons of her deepest desires, a fool seeks to be noted at expense of courtesy.
Let reality sink in, it's about time she stops looking outward for all of her problems and stops to look in.
Let reality sink in, let all pretense fall through.
The humor in a caricature of stoicism is found in the child's tale, tell-tale, telling of discontent.

Woot. I'm seeing Deftones and Thrice in Feb

Migraines 12-05-2006 01:44 PM

nice...I've never seen them.
I was supposed to a couple years ago with Metallica, linkin park, mudvayne, and limp bizkit... but Carpenter was sick or something, so they didn't play. The rest of the bands were making fun of him... kinda funny. Great show still.

haha, well thank you. I tried my best. It seems like my focus on other art forms like drawing recently is going to be nice, haha. Or mixing media. :)

I'll make critiques as soon as possible, I swear. I was just too busy being an engineer. :(

Thanks for the heads-up, Gav, but I'm almost certain I prefer my regular large avatar. Milk is christmas-ey, though.

And good going on the Deftones. Should be fun. If they toured with System of A down as well, Mein would own.

slack 12-05-2006 08:13 PM

Seems like you're trying too hard with that one, eleventeen. Like, trying too hard to be poetic and intelligent and philosophiclol and stuff. Bring it down to earth more. Talk about specific things, specific people, and their thoughts.
