i read the v comic; much preferred the original opening speech, i think it was from Macbeth. the ending of the film was rubbish as well.

and then there's the league of extraordinary gentlemen.........

SubtleDagger 10-04-2006 05:39 PM

To be honest, League isn't top-tier Moore material anyway, it's just him goofing off. The books were still much better of course.

The original "opening speech" (I think you mean the sort of monologue when Evie is about to get raped) is from Macbeth; the actual monologues and such Moore exclusively wrote for the character are ridiculously good though.

Surf 10-04-2006 05:49 PM

its his first words in the book. and they seem to fit really well. i read somewhere that moore was just sitting at his desk whilst writing it; he just flicked through his shakespeare book, and the quote came up. he said it fit so perfectly that he had to include it.

i liked the idea behind the league books, but they were a bit flippant; like you said, moore was having fun.

[sarcasm]and here's looking forward to the watchmen adaption[/sarcasm]

SubtleDagger 10-04-2006 05:52 PM

Yeah, I've been dreading that for about five years now

Surf 10-04-2006 05:55 PM

there's too many plotlines to shrink comprehensively and faithfully into movie form. it just won't work. i'd like it to. but it won't.

pixiesfanyo 10-05-2006 02:17 AM

It'd be a good, "mini-series".

With a set ending, I mean.

Surf 10-05-2006 08:24 AM

it could work like that, but on tv hey might not have a big enough budget. the ending or ozymadias' house would look pretty shoddy if it were done on the cheap. the best chance the project had was when paul greengrass was directing. but now its the guy who did a remake of dawn of the dead. he's currently doing frank miller's 300, so i'll have to see how that turns out before i judge him too much

TojesDolan 10-05-2006 10:16 AM

Hey Burt. Since Jason has faded into the deepest hole on earth I'll take care of the SoTM.

yeh

I'll go make a thread about it.

The only times it ever had a decent chance were when Gilliam offered to do it and Aronofsky was working on it. Gilliam said it couldn't be done which is basically proof that it shouldn't, and Aronofsky just dropped it like everyone else.

Surf 10-05-2006 11:10 AM

a gilliam version would have been interesting. i didn't know he'd been attached. i saw the trailer for 300 today. looks intersting, but i'm not sure the director could handle watchmen

pixiesfanyo 10-05-2006 12:49 PM

yeah. the trailer to 300 looks awesome.

Surf 10-05-2006 01:07 PM

trailer for 300. making y-fronts and capes look hard

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/

and the director, zack snyder, talks about watchmen.

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=19672

seems they haven't turned in the script to the studio, or cast anyone.
but the good nes is that they're keeping the 1985 setting

Sloth 10-05-2006 02:10 PM

I don't care...300 looks good

SubtleDagger 10-05-2006 02:51 PM

300 I don't really care about since Frank Miller only wrote like two things I think are really good

Surf 10-05-2006 04:25 PM

i've hardly read anything by frank miller. i read dark knight returns, and i flicked through a couple of sin city books. the film was alright, but in terms of the 'renivention of film noir', i'd more likely hand it to 'kiss kiss bang bang'; which was better, and much more faithful to noir.

but yeah. frank miller's alright, but he's no alan moore.

SubtleDagger 10-05-2006 04:36 PM

Neil Gaiman and Moore are the best comic writers ever

I would mention Spiegelman but he doesn't really write typical stuff

Surf 10-05-2006 04:49 PM

what's neil gaiman written?

/realises google will sort this out.

oh, sandman; looks interesting. i'll give it a read. i have to finish genesis and the odyssey first :/

SubtleDagger 10-05-2006 04:50 PM

He did the Sandman stuff, 1602, and was ending Moore's Miracleman run before Eclipse went under.

Surf 10-05-2006 05:03 PM

1602 looks pretty interesting. might check that one out as well

Nightvision 10-07-2006 02:16 AM

Dammit, I swear, if one more person says I've disappeared, I'm going to start believing it myself.

SubtleDagger 10-07-2006 09:58 AM

Anyone seen Jason, he sure has been gone a long time

FA 10-07-2006 10:48 AM

Nightvision = Jason?

News to me, what's up?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 10-07-2006 01:30 PM

cliched funeral poem for Jason101

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Jacob Bannon is a killah lyricist.

Ugh, Dylan Thomas is a faggot.

Surf 10-07-2006 01:49 PM

indeed. and he's the only notable welsh writer.

the head of my sixth form quoted that poem when we left. obviously an idiot

drumass04 10-07-2006 07:59 PM

Hey guys

how're things around here? I've barely been on and it's kinda strange coming back!

Anyway, I have good news! I have managed to find a composer who is up for, and incredibly enthusiastic, about my idea for a musical. I had the idea during the summer holidays, and started writing. But I ws clever enough to leave it in Ireland where I was on holiday.

I've finally got some more inspiration and I'm going to start writing properly tomorrow. I've got to say I can't wait!

Hope you're all well,

Timmy

TojesDolan 10-08-2006 11:55 AM

hi Timmy, come back a little more and stuff.

WHERE'S JASON OMG

Nightvision 10-08-2006 12:06 PM

Haha, wow... an internet funeral for me. I quite like that.

Can I get a wailing wall as well? Man, one of those would be so cool.
