Yea I have 1 CR radio station that plays the same stuff and that I don't really like, and then there's one that I rarely get reception to, last week I got reception to it for the first time in months, I just randomly turned that station on for some reason. I heard The Band, Dylan, Clapton, and The Beatles, which for some reason I rarely hear on the other radio station.
They seem like a cool band, I think I might buy that 8 dollar cd, and if its bad, it's just like going to bad movie and giving 2 dollars to a bum.
That's a sweet icon you got. You should check out my Proto-Punk thread in the Punk forum where we normally talk about the VU, Stooges,New York Dolls, MC5, etc. We are always looking for new regulars in my thread. :thumb: |
Moon, I have Music From Big Pink, The Band, and plenty of mp3's from The Last Waltz. I'd be happy to send any of them. :)
(the same goes for anybody else too)
I'll be fine; I have s/t and Big Pink, though I'm moderately unfamilar with s/t, because I didn't really get into it during my first few listens. Thanks though :) |
Does anyone think it's weird/incorrect(slightly)/ignorant to pass CCR off as a Blues-Rock band?
|
Does anyone think it's weird/incorrect(slightly)/ignorant to pass CCR off as a Blues-Rock band?
I always thought of them as more country/southern/roots(kinda) rock. |

Yes, I also believe that. |

Kinda R&Bish I say. Robo that was me who requested that Ravi Shankar album. So chill. |

I think it's ignorant, because they are one of the bands that I cannot classify. They sound a lot like The Band to me actually. They have blues influences, but some southern and country influences too. They also have some improvisation/jam like I Heard it Through the Grapevine. I find both CCR and The Band to have countless influences in their music and kind of impossible to classify. And Badmoon I'm surprised you don't like The Band, they kind of sound like CCR a little to me, and also like The Dead in the American Beauty/ Workingman's Dead period. |

Yeah i'd say so. When you think about it, they were really just a pop band. Not in a bad way though. I mean, most of the songs they wrote had catchy choruses and were around 3 1/2 minutes. |

Robo that was me who requested that Ravi Shankar album. So chill.
Good request :thumb: It has such an interesting feel to it, it's like going on a journey listening to it. I always thought George was just really high when he talked about really connecting with Ravi's music but I know what he's talking about now. |

They did master catchiness. I forgot to include pop when dissecting the roots of their music. ;) |
CCRs cover of IHeard It Through the Grapevine is one of my favourite songs, I also love the original.

I beleive CCR did the original version. Im pretty sure John Fogerty wrote the song. Twas MArvin Gaye who covered it. |
I'm 99% sure that Gaye wrote it and CCR covered it.
|
No it was a Motown song that was done by a few Motown artists and Creedence
|

You don't like the BAnd? It was just today that I read (scanned) your reveiw on Sputnik for music From THe Big Pink. There brand of countrified rock seems like something that would appeal more to you. |

My fault, Gaye did the original version though. HE didn't write it though, it was by to othere people. |
I never said I didn't like The Band, I just said I hadn't gotten into them yet. I tried to write that review fairley, and less opinion based (like most my older, not as good reviews).
|
motown songs were rarely by the singer, so that could be true.

Listen to Michael McDonald's cover. I love his voice. (On his first Motown album, naturally.) |
