Completely random, but Ravi Shankur is amazing. I finally listened to some of Visions of Peace which I uploaded from the YSI thread a while ago. He is ridiculous.
|
Now I'm confused. Do you like him or not.
I like him a lot, I just didn't want it to come out that he is the most innovative and exciting artist of today. Shoulda made that clearer. :( |
The North Mississippi Allstars' Shake Hands With Shorty is an awesome album.
I cannot say that for their other albums though. Polaris is terrible (except for one song).
Their live album Hill Country Revue is awesome. I haven't heard Polaris so I can't comment on it, but I'd like to hear it. |

I uploaded Hill Country Revue too :thumb: Haven't listened to it yet though, because my ipod ****ed up a few minutes ago  |
That's sweet man. |
The other day I went in to my attic and found my parents vinyls and record player. I didn't take the player out because I have no idea how to assemble and work it. I looked through the records though and it was a lot of crap :upset:
Highlights were at least one copy of pretty much every single Bruce Springsteen cd, including a 5 LP live set :D, Sticky Fingers and Some Girls by the Stones, and a John Mayell album. There was some stuff the people that aren't bad, but who I don't really care for- a lot of Talking Heads and Harry Chapin. The rest was complete crap- like 80's pop- Witney Houston stuff  And a huge amount of the albums were Christmas albums  I was hoping for Dylan, Beatles, etc. Instead it was mostly '80s stuff. I'm hoping there is more somewhere, but I doubt it. And most of them probably won't work, as I never remember them being used. |
That sucks, my dad has great albums, though he lost about half of his collection.
|
I'm hoping to find more. However, the room where they would be is full of junk, dust, and probably dead mice and ****. Not really eager to go in there again.
|
My dad has an awesome collection. I found Revolver and Sgt. Peppers on vinyl at my Grandpa's house in a sea of classical and jazz.
|

Yeah, my parents moved across Canada in 1990, and they sold all their vinyls because it was too expensive to ship them. |
Has anyone looked at the Sgt peppers cover lately with detail?
I had never looked at it closely, but I was doing that yesterday and I found some cool stuff i had never seen before, including a picture of Bob Dylan and Aleister Crowley, among others I cant Remember right now. |
It's fun, I look at all the names in the booklet, which says all the people on the cover, and then I try to find them. It's really hard.

Where is everyone? Anyway, we don't talk about the Band enough. Rock of the Ages is one of the best live CD's I have, they are an awesome band.
And Robbie Robertson is one of my favorite guitarists My last name is Robertson too, so that might have something to do with it :p |
I have not heard anything outside of what they did with Dylan... which of course is great.

My favorite album of their's is Music From Big Pink, shortly followed by their s/t. They're both very good albums. And The Last Waltz is brilliant. |
How do you get something under your username like that?
I bought Greatest Hits, then I bought Music From Big Pink, and then Lunch sent me Rock of the Ages. Rock of the Ages is my favorite, followed by the Greatest Hits, which is great. There isn't very much from the first two albums that is left out from there. /needs the Last Waltz. Is the DVD worth it, or should I just buy the CD? |

IM me and I can give you the link for long usertitles. |
Yea definently get the DVD. I watched it everyday for a week before I took a break from it.
|
I can't get into The Band as much as everyone else :(
The only songs I've really liked by them were their cover of "Slipin' and a Slidin'" on Festival Express and "The Weight". :( |
One more day of exams, then summer, then summer job, money, and I will buy the DVD :thumb:. I've heard there are a ton of guests on it. And JPJ what's your IM?
I was listening to The Shape I'm In this afternoon. It just sunk in with me how brilliant those lyrics were and how awesome that organ solo was. |

bass over all Badmoon, have you heard The Shape I'm In, Don't Do It, or Stage Fright? Those are my favorite songs. |
Up On Cripple Creek is great too. In fact, you should just buy Greatest Hits, I found it cheap in Sam Goody, which is always overpriced. It was only 7.99
I'd just pick it up if you see it cheap like that and take a chance. It got me into them. :thumb: |

They seem like a cool band, I think I might buy that 8 dollar cd, and if its bad, it's just like going to bad movie and giving 2 dollars to a bum.
|
Music From the Big Pink is great. The Weight is IMO thier best non-Bob song. The Last waltz DVD is also really cool.

Moon, I have Music From Big Pink, The Band, and plenty of mp3's from The Last Waltz. I'd be happy to send any of them. :)
(the same goes for anybody else too) |
I heard it on the radio last week
Only time that I've ever heard The Band on the radio. Edit- Up on Cripple Creek on the radio |
