Unless you are using Meddle to divide their careers because of the recognition and massive success they recieved after DSOTM and albums following it.
That's what I was doing, and in the book Nick Mason wrote, he said that was the album he felt the band had came most together on.

Illmatic 10-10-2005 02:39 PM
I don't know if I've ever heard Surrender by Cheap Trick... I'm not a huge fan of Cheap Trick, but I think they have a good singer and they can come up with some good songs now and then. I've got a few of their albums on vinyl (I think they were my dads actually) and I listened to one or two of them and I wasn't very impressed. Way too much filler.
I'm not a very big fan of them overall, but "Surrender" is a great song
Unless you are using Meddle to divide their careers because of the recognition and massive success they recieved after DSOTM and albums following it.
Well, Meddle is generally considered the first post-Barrett album with some substance to it; stuff like Ummagumma and Obscured By Clouds are generally considered trivial albums.

A Saucerful of Secrest...trivial? That's my favourite album by Pink floyd!, tied with DSOTM.

I was just listening to Maggie's Farm (studio), wishing it were the live version. I don't think I have the live version on any of my albums, I'd better re-check.

edit- Does anyone have Dylans Live '64 or Live '66 albums? Those would be so wonderful...I've only got two of his live albums, and one is that dreadful Live '75.

Walrus Gumboot 10-10-2005 03:09 PM

I was watching the local news and they had a special on the local waterfall, which was totally overflown today (it has been raining for a few days now). The story was about how "the locals" thought it was a "spectacle" and showed the camreamen searching through the woods and finding various people
One of them was my crazy History teacher/professional actor stanging on top of the railing filming the falls
It made me laugh

The live version is on the Bootleg Series Vol. 7 - No Direction Home (the soundtrack)

I have the Live '66 album.

Clearly it's a matter of personal opinion (I don't mind Ummagumma or Saucerful of Secrets), but Meddle is generally considered the first post-Barrett PF album of true consequence.

What do I like about it? Umm...I dunno, it's amazing. It just makes me feel really really good when I listen to it. It's got the psychedelia of PATGOD with the intimateness of DSOTM, and the ominousness of The Wall...all mixed into one. Saucerful of Secrets (the song) is just so unbelievably beautiful, all the songs just draw you deeply into them and it's like when that album is playing everything in the room is affected by it (maybe I've done too many drugs while listening to it). Jugband Blues is an awesome song, I wish more of Barrets songs were on the album. The band really all added to the album too, not as much as with DSOTM, but more than any other Pink Floyd album. It has three Waters songs, two Wright songs, a Barret song, and a Waters/Wright/Mason/Gilmour song. Basically every album after Saucerful of Secrets was written almost entirely by Waters except for DSOTM.

edit - Hey Illmatic, I'll stop secretly making fun of you behind your back, if you send me Live '66. Please! :)

Hm, thats pretty interesting. I'm going to have to give it another listen. Overall, though, the early Psycodelic Pink Floyd just isn't my thing. I'm sure its amazing when high (I don't mean the disrespectfully,) but it just doesn't seem to have the major draw of some other psycodelic bands. Some of the songs are brilliant, though.

Oddly enough, my guitar teacher got me into Saucerful of Secrets. We were doing a workshop, and this super-good fingerpicking guitarist was coming to give us a "lecture" and teach us some stuff, and play some songs...and we went over to the park to eat lunch before he came, and we were talking about Pink Floyd. I hadn't heard Saucerful of Secrets yet, but I'd heard just about every other album of theirs, and he said that Saucerful of Secrets was one of their best albums. And now I agree with him.

My darn cat keeps walking all over the keyboard.

Speaking of sunglasses and Abbey Road, I would kill to find some sunglasses like John Lennon used to wear.

Burning Spear are having a benefit concert in Stamford, CT. Should I go see them? Tickets are really expensive- 80 bucks

But food and drink are included, and Burning Spear is awesome. And then we come to the slight problem that I have no money.

JonG 10-10-2005 03:47 PM

I'm back into an ELP groove. From The Beginning is fun to play :)

Lucky Man has some great vocals.

I've got some sunglasses like Lennon wore. The lenses are a little scratched though so I don't wear them very often, hard to see out of.

edit- I love the intensity of Dylan's version of House of the Rising Sun. I think it's much better than the Animals version.

Glitterati 10-10-2005 04:01 PM

I want to get more posters for my room, but the size of my room doesn't really allow for it. I have a few right now (Jim Morrison, Zeppelin, Star Wars, The Wall) so that should be good.

I'm considering re-doing my room around Christmas.

Walrus Gumboot 10-10-2005 04:08 PM

I have the original White Album poster :D
http://www.benves.com.ar/beatles/wa/waposter.jpg

Instead of posters I usually just have Albums and maps of Iceland hanging around

I only know what magicbus/pinkfreud/slug look like

robo2448 10-10-2005 04:08 PM

My room sucks. It's small, has a bed, a nightable, and a desk that is too small for me to use. Pretty boring. I don't really chill in my room very much. I just chill in this room I'm in now. There's this small room on the 3rd floor of my house (that makes it sound like I live in a mansion, which I don't). But anyway, it's cool. It's got a small bed I can take naps on, a small tv, and a desk with this labtop I'm using now. I'd move up here, but my parents don't want me sleeping up here. I can spend all the time up here I want, but can't sleep here. Makes no sense, but I don't really care.

I like the Animals cover of the House of the Rising Sun better. The organ and guitar blend together really well. Dylan's version is still more powerful and awesome, but I slightly prefer the Animals.

Illmatic 10-10-2005 04:10 PM
I only know what magicbus/pinkfreud/slug look like
Ohhh yeah, I know what Allen (PF) and Chris (Slug) look like too

(I use their real names, so I'm cooler than you, boo-yah. Even though I probably misspelled PF's name)

I wish there were good pics of me lying around :-\

NP: Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay

I've got a big Morrison flag, a big Zeppelin flag, a Doors poster, a Who poster, and an Eagles poster on my walls. Those are the only music related posters I have on my wall, besides my tye dye vinyl album. There may be some more I'm not remembering.
I've done various pieces of art that are hanging on my walls, and are music related though, paintings of Zeppelin, Morrison, various album covers, collage type things...that's about it.

My dorm room is...completely barren

I don't own any posters, so my dorm room's walls look kinda like a jail cell's

np: Bob Dylan - Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You

Walrus Gumboot 10-10-2005 04:16 PM

My sister's friend draws her own posters of musicians. The thing is she gets therse discusting little crushes on John Paul Jones and Bob Weir and draws them all the time

It's a little embarrasing

thickasabrick 10-10-2005 04:17 PM

Why is it that Dylan sounded oldest on his debut album, and progressively sounded younger and younger throughout his following albums in the 60's? It's strange.

Jacaranda 10-10-2005 04:19 PM

I got 3 Jane's Addiction Posters, 1 Stones, 1 Keith Richards, 1 John Lennon, 1 Jimi Hendrix, 2 Dave Navarro, 1 Incubus, 1 Doors, 1 Grace Slick and 1 Scarface (I ain't no G). I hate empty spaces.

To ThickasaBrick I was wondering that also one day but then I came to the conclusion that its probably production quality.
