In death metal? Impetuous Ritual, Disma, Cruciamentum, Ignivomous, Maim, Denial, Ex Dementia, Krypts, Embrace of Thorns, Claws, Festered, Teitanblood, Horrific, Acid Witch, Revolting...

just to name a few.
I'm hooked on the Revolting album now!

EdgeOfSanity 01-19-2010 10:02 PM

I need to get serious for a minute...

Do you guys think that all of these new bands popping up that are playing Old School Death Metal are legit? Or is it just sort of a fad like the thrash bands that have popped up in the last couple of years? I still personally have mixed opinions about some of these new bands...

Deth 01-19-2010 10:06 PM

don't really care

hasn't gotten popular enough to legitimately be a fad I don't think but that could change

EdgeOfSanity 01-19-2010 10:12 PM
don't really care

That's kind of my feelings too...I don't really see any of these bands getting on high profile tours like some of the newer thrash bands did...but at the same time there is A LOT of death metal bands popping up playing the old school style.

masscows 01-19-2010 10:52 PM

It's sort of lame when a band is deliberately like "oh, we gotta keep it OLD SCHOOL" because it's bound to come out completely forced like they're afraid to step outside of a certain boundary.

rasputin 01-19-2010 10:54 PM

most of the newer bands emulating the 'old school' style are pretty good

DBlitz 01-19-2010 10:54 PM

as much as i like a lot of this old school revival thing its kinda getting stale

masscows 01-19-2010 10:57 PM

bands like ribspreader are bleeeeehhhhh

Tyler 01-19-2010 10:58 PM

yeah but ribspreader have been terrible for years, they suck outside of the new 'fad'

masscows 01-19-2010 11:02 PM

Well I guess I don't really know what the old school revival thing is then, what bands would you guys consider to be part of it? I would probably just call it death metal, I don't really see a need to call something old school revival because it doesn't sound like Behemoth or Job for a Cowboy.

rasputin 01-19-2010 11:02 PM

yeah there are heaps of great bands to outweight the shitty ones

im certainly not going to complain

DBlitz 01-19-2010 11:07 PM

i'm talking about all the incantation clones

wouldn't they count as "osdm revival"

masscows 01-19-2010 11:09 PM

they're death metal bands that sound like incantation

idc beyond that

Deth 01-19-2010 11:28 PM

better old school revival than shitty BDM clones or something

rasputin 01-19-2010 11:30 PM

yah pretty much

Angmar 01-19-2010 11:31 PM

or mediocre melodic death metal with technical parts including breakdowns and some brees

Deth 01-19-2010 11:34 PM

see: BDM clones

Enjoying the new aborted ep.
me too, very good

landonius 01-20-2010 10:15 AM

I personally consider meshuggah to be one of the best bands alive, seeing as they are one of the few bands that isn't trying to emulate someone else's work, but they influence tons of other bands. And Chaosphere and Nothing (the rerelease) are just amazing.

As far as listening to VoM, I do, and enjoy it. But they are nowhere near meshuggah.

Tyler 01-20-2010 10:39 AM

why are people talking about meshuggah in the death metal thread

rasputin 01-20-2010 10:40 AM

didnt you hear craig pillard is their lead singer now

Angmar 01-20-2010 11:15 AM

landonius 01-20-2010 11:29 AM

Meshuggah is much more thrash than death, really. but yeah, I mentioned it because it was in the first post on this thread.

Angmar 01-20-2010 11:31 AM

what are the odds...

witchxrapist 01-20-2010 11:33 AM
better old school revival than poopty BDM clones or something
I like both movements so ya.

I guess I just like death metal more than you guys.~

landonius 01-20-2010 11:56 AM

I'm really liking the new Aborted... went and downloaded it. It's pretty sick. been listening to a lot of Skinless lately, too.
