Fear of the dark grew on me.

Be Quick or be Dead \m/
Ugh, Fear of The Dark is one of their worst. The title tracks is decent live, but the rest kinda sucks :-\
Although it has a couple decent tracks, FotD is definatrly maiden's worst.

x00046455 10-09-2006 09:39 AM

Fear of the dark has some ****in great songs! not just the title track.
somewhere in time is probably one of their worst!

Moon Flavor 10-09-2006 10:26 AM

Hey I'm looking for some heavy avant garde bands and also for some melodic math metal bands, if such a thing exists. Thanks.

Hardly-

FotD will be regarded by most maiden fans the worst maiden album ever done. the title track isnt even that good in studio.
Hey I'm looking for... melodic math metal bands, if such a thing exists. Thanks.
Erm... Melodic Math is a little hard to come by because most 'math' bands that f'cuk with time sigs and stuff tend to disgard traditional 'melody' for weird keys and song structures and stuff, but...:

Psycroptic
Quo Vadis

are two that come to mind.

Avant-Garde! :D:D

Arcturus.
Solefald
Age Of Silence
Aberant Vascualar
Fleurety
In The Woods
Apocryphal Voice
Ordo Draconis
Aarni (avant-garde doom)

That should get you started.

Great album (does he have more than one?) with doom metal on acoustic guitars if I rember correctly.

the2stranger 10-10-2006 07:57 AM

He has one split out and a few demos besides the full length.
I only have the ull length.
Indeed he uses accoustic guitar as wel as classical flute and stuff, very good cd.

You didn't mention UneXpect.

I've only heard Arcturus and Solefald. Do you think you can send some of that stuff into Oz? I'm interested.

the2stranger 10-10-2006 09:09 AM

Sure.
Anything prefered?

dUSK 10-10-2006 09:23 AM

If you don't mind me butting in, but some In The Woods would be nice. I'm interested because of the Green Carnation connection.

The Aarni sounds interesting as well, with a description like Avant Garde Doom.

StreetlightRock 10-10-2006 09:44 AM

Sure mate.
I'll get it done once the queue dies down a bit. :)

HahahitnRun 10-14-2006 09:52 PM

Recently gotten into Early Scorpions, Deep Purple, Rainbow, while also getting more into Cream and Led Zeppelin. Sadly I don't much about pre 80's music, so if you could maybe recommend some bands, which play a similar style of music that would be great. And a few prog bands, Thanks.

StreetlightRock 10-14-2006 10:14 PM

You'll be looking at dropping into the Classic Rock Revisited Thread. Most of 'em swing that way with their music, but erm, you could always try out Hendrix, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, The Who, Clapton's solo stuff, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc to get you started, those are generally all the big names. But yea, again, i'd advise the CRR thread if you're really getting into it.

I can upload 1 In The Woods album if you'd like...and the Aarni sounds gret indeed.

randomthought9 10-18-2006 06:02 PM

Hey, I was looking for some blues that's kinda chill like. I've been listening to John Mayer Trio a lot lately, so I guess something like that. Maybe something with clean guitars, but anything good.

Sleepy 10-18-2006 06:10 PM

Don't know enough about them to make any specific requests. I have no Solefald, but I have Le Masquerade Infernal and The Sham Mirrors by Arcturus.

In addition to what StreetLightRock said, check out Camel. They are a really good prog rock band.

Ad Absurdum 10-19-2006 01:33 PM

I'm not very good with genres. A few examples of the stuff that I'm listening to:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Sigur Ros
Forward Russia
Kayo Dot

I'm looking for more stuff over the same lines. I realise that these bands aren't really similar, but anything in any of these directions would be much appreciated. Thanks. Also, apologies if this doesn't really belong here, I would have posted in alt/indie but they don't seem to have a recommendations thread.

Kingofdudes 10-19-2006 01:37 PM

Since you like Sigur and Godspeed, you might like this week's post-rock listening party band: Jaga Jazzist
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/party.php?party=59

Tyr 10-19-2006 01:39 PM

Also check out Red Sparowes.

randomthought9 10-20-2006 12:41 AM

Sorry for double post, I just wanted to make sure my question didn't get lost.

I've only heard a little iForward, Russia!, but you might like Gospel. Have a look at their album The Moon is a Dead World.

I've found one on eBay but I'll have a look around to see if there's anything cheaper before I order.

Bartender 10-20-2006 12:09 PM

Well I got my copy from Amazon, but I just paid regular price for it (£10 or £11, I think) because I'd heard most of it before, thanks to Paranoidd. I think the site he links to is still up and working, if you want to hear them streamed beforehand.

(I'm assuming you're looking for post rock recommendations Ab, but I don't feel like going back a page and checking)

Explosions In The Sky
We Followed Tigers
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
A Silver Mt Zion
Mogwai
Mono
Grails

Holy Diver 10-23-2006 12:48 AM

I'm looking for some bands in the genre of progressive hard rock. I've found lots of progressive rock bands and lots of progressive metal bands, but none in between. Bands very similar to Rush and Dio-era Rainbow. Stuff like Led Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand and Kashmir would also be in the range of what I'm looking for. Does the band(s) I'm looking for actually exist?

Stoic 10-23-2006 06:54 AM

Van Der Graaf Generator and King Crimson!

publicastration 10-25-2006 10:45 PM

Looking for

Bands like Sunn O)))'s album White2. The atmosphere and heavy bass with some droning guitar. Are there any?

Also how is 00 Void compared to Black One, White1&2, and Flight of the Behemoth?

Apocalyptic Raids 10-26-2006 07:50 AM

Earth
Boris (though it depends what album, so you might want to research a little... or ask Kage)
Khanate.
Van Der Graaf Generator and King Crimson!
I love King Crimson, but neither of these bands are anything like what I'm looking for. :p Basically I want some epic hard rock tunes (6 minutes+ in length) with lots of guitar riffage and mystical lyrics. Some keyboard/orchestral accompaniment would be great too.

Stoic 10-26-2006 03:53 PM

Something like Genesis - The Knife (song found on progarchives)?
