Probably mentioned it but, seeing pth with Darkest Hour at the end of this month. Stoked.

adb 01-14-2011 04:15 PM

this band never tours with anything other than shit

listened to the instrumental of Fortress the other day at work

arpeggios, arpeggios everywhere

band survives by writing incessant hooks (which I like)

alytee123 01-14-2011 04:19 PM

Darkest Hour are awesome

still haven't heard the instrumental version

I love arpeggios

hooks are kool, but lead to 'claims of false metal' etc etc

Me too! Only I'm gonna see them early February, the same tour, in Hungary.

Tyler 01-14-2011 05:50 PM
this band never tours with anything other than shit
it's unfortunate yea, they're stuck in a hard place. but maylene is a real step up from the shit they usually tour with

alytee123 01-14-2011 05:51 PM

So is Darkest Hour tbh.

Tyler 01-14-2011 06:02 PM

yeah but that's in europe so it doesnt exist as far as im concerned

alytee123 01-14-2011 06:20 PM

Existence or not, we've got a better pth tour.

xMalcolmXx 01-14-2011 08:23 PM

they toured with architects last year, which was good but then pth never showed up to the show so i didnt even get to see them. still pissed.

duma87 01-15-2011 06:27 AM

Further confirmation of a worldwide tour, and that the album is indeed named Scurrilous:

VJ90 01-16-2011 11:53 PM

Scurrilous, what a peculiar name for an album. I like it though, better than most album titles.

alytee123 01-17-2011 04:04 AM

Stoked.

adb 01-17-2011 04:21 PM

wheres the confirmation of an instrumental version

Tyler 01-17-2011 06:37 PM

there will probably be one since they basically record instrumentally and then rody does his thing after

Itwasthatwas 01-17-2011 08:24 PM

most bands do that, but most bands don't want to spend money doing two mixes and two masters. i suppose it wouldn't take that much more work though

Benzilla 01-18-2011 11:22 AM

There hasn't been a final word as to who wrote the lyrics, has there?

Tyler 01-18-2011 11:31 AM

Arif and Rody to my knowledge.

Tyler 01-18-2011 02:34 PM

joanna newsom?

Tyler 01-18-2011 03:22 PM

i heard arif did the artwork hm

Ventriloquist 01-18-2011 03:26 PM

that's a pretty bad album name

edit: and i dunno what it means

Tyler 01-18-2011 03:27 PM

it basically means really stupid and offensive and silly and vulgar

if anyone here is in toronto arif's gonna be playing with a couple of country acts (both are awesome, especially jack marks) thursday at dakota's. probably like 50 songs or some shit. it's always a good time and jack is tryin' to raise money for his european tour so you should stop by if you're into folky country

gonna bump this because i just got some cool info on the cover and album title, i'm gonna write it up for another site and i'll pass the link on when it's up.

Tyler 01-18-2011 04:28 PM

here you go guys don't say i never do anything for you

2muchket! 01-18-2011 04:33 PM

That's actually pretty cool.

I dig the art as well, I mean I'd obviously prefer an exploding planet, but I like it none the less.

Neato! Thanks dude!

shortz 01-18-2011 08:10 PM

So excited ^_^ I love seeing these guys, especially Rody's rants in between songs.

alytee123 01-19-2011 05:20 AM

One time I saw them he went on about white guys having dreads being a funny thing, despite their drummer used to have dreads, and the sound guy at the venue had dreads, and I have dreads...

Pastor of Muppets 01-19-2011 09:53 AM

Rody's shirt with the kitty cat and the butterflies is fucking metal. I want one.

Ventriloquist 01-19-2011 10:18 AM

ugh, not digging Rody's new hairstyle.

DBlitz 01-19-2011 10:32 AM

that's an old pic

Ventriloquist 01-19-2011 10:45 AM

then i'm not digging his old hairstyle

Tyler 01-19-2011 12:32 PM

yeah that pic is like four years old haha

Ventriloquist 01-19-2011 12:48 PM

moe's hair also freaked me out

Tyler 01-19-2011 12:49 PM

The dreads were a bad idea. Arif's hair is hilarious. He should go back to the Slash hair he had when they were first starting out.

Benzilla 01-19-2011 01:08 PM
Arif and Rody to my knowledge.
Let's hope the split is like 70/30 in favor of Arif.

The new artwork looks like it could have been done by that guy in Baroness.

Tyler 01-19-2011 01:10 PM

I donno if you saw the link I posted, but it was done by Arif's grandfather in the 50s. It's a piece called "Scurrilous".

Now that I've told you this, click this link five times.

http://www.aux.tv/newmusic/music-news/protest-the-heros-album-title-and-cover-explained/

Benzilla 01-19-2011 02:04 PM

I saw the link. Hence "could have been done."

Tyler 01-19-2011 02:05 PM

Don't sass me.

duma87 01-19-2011 02:25 PM

Tyler - Any idea on the relation between the title of the painting (Scurrilous) and what's going on therein? I get that the chick is 'baiting' the animals, but I wonder if there's some mythology I'm missing out on...

Tyler 01-19-2011 02:28 PM

It's probably just so named because of how the absurd the content within is. If there's any deeper meaning I'm not sure, but you also have to contextualize it as being painted in 1950s Iran. Under the assumption of 50s Iranian society being a pretty strict and proper one, you can see where the notion of it being a 'scurrilous' painting comes from.

But honestly I have no idea.
