Zildjian_man 10-21-2006 01:27 PM

I know im becoming a pain asking about this. but this is the last time.
Im am ready to order my cymbals, but forgot some things. meinl classics on a scale of 1-10, Ten being most:how bright, how long of sustain, and how loud. Thanks for all the help.
For 150 man you shud go for it.

I'm looking for bright (not too bright) cutting ride for play middle of the road rock to hard rock. any ideas guys?
Avedis Rock ride
Avedis ping ride

When im playing jazzier stuff i tend to crack out my old 22" Zyn ride.
16 CIE Vintage?

Yes.
A little late on the reply (I know) but if I can try either one, I'd love a K fast crash or the CIE.

Expensiveeeeeeeeeeeeee

worth it?

We_Love_Lime 10-22-2006 08:38 PM

Oh ****.

No doubt the CIE is worth it.

Not too fond of the ride, the hats and crashs are VERY worth it though.
VERY!

TTTSNB 10-22-2006 09:05 PM
you really need a thinner ride for jazz for the sounds I tend to like/prefer in a playing situation

although i would save the brighter/pingier rides for big band type stuff
Yeah, most of the time. Even the Medium seems a bit too thick in my College Small Group Jazz Combo.

drummguy731 10-24-2006 08:59 PM

Ok guys, how are the K custom sessions? Cause I'm starting to get into jazz stuff and may need a new crash since I normally play A Cust. Fasts

Aaron 10-24-2006 09:21 PM

They're okay, there are better crashes out there though. The special drys are 100x better.

drummguy731 10-24-2006 09:27 PM

But they don't come in crashes do they?

Aaron 10-24-2006 09:28 PM

Yeah, but they were discontinued in March. Still fairly available.

drummguy731 10-24-2006 09:29 PM

Ahh, I see, thank you!

Aaron 10-24-2006 09:30 PM

They'll be the ones we'll be talking about as priceless in 10 years, trust me. Give them 10 years of playing and they'll be godly.

drummguy731 10-24-2006 09:33 PM

Yeah, hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on one. Also, has anyone played the Oriental Classic China, not the China trash, but the other china from the Oriental FX series

SeNeCa 10-30-2006 07:19 AM

hi guys ive found a few nice pairs of Paiste cymbals on ebay and im just wondering as far as quality goes how do paistes rank? ive checked out the sound files on their websites and i like them alot.

but what lines of cymbals offer the best quality? like sigs are obviously very good but like 404's Alphas Rudes how do these rate in the cymbal world?

i hope ive made the question clear =/

thanks guys :)

Drum Phil 10-30-2006 07:51 AM

404s and alphas arent too good.

Rude rides, chinas and thin crashes are awesome. Rudes are pro but quite heavy.

herostyle 10-30-2006 01:53 PM

The Rudes are nice and the 2002s.

herostyle 10-30-2006 02:01 PM

AA splash?
AAX splash?

the new alphas are pretty good. a bit pricey though

alurny 11-03-2006 09:53 AM

So I'm looking to upgrade from my standard hats and crash. Good deal?

Cocaberry 11-03-2006 10:55 AM

ZBTs suck.

Save up for professional cymbals so you won't have to buy twice.

Panopticon 11-04-2006 12:10 AM

This may not be what the cymbal finder is intended for but i figured i'd ask here before making a new thread.

My school has an old Sabian AA Medium Ride.

I might buy it for $40 but want to know how old it is. I know it is fairly old because the text that says "MEDIUM RIDE" is capitalized and is just outlined. (ie. the letters are not solid).

Any guesses? I asked on the sabian forum but it could be a while before i get an answer.

HeLLmO 11-04-2006 12:12 AM

it's probably ATLEAST 5-6 years old, which means it's got a bit of wear under it, but if it still sounds good definatly go for it. my school has a pair of new beats with the zildjian logo capitalized, outlined, but not filled in, and they sound amazing, i think they're 15''s and i would easily pay $40 for 'em.

Well...my flat hats are at least 5 years old and they have the regular logo?

HeLLmO 11-04-2006 07:11 AM

well, then they are older than that, maybe 10 years?

Inkstar 11-04-2006 07:42 AM

Yo, just thought I'd say I went round my mates place this arvo and tried out his UFIP Natural Series hats.

BEAUTIFUL. Absouletely loved them. Closed and open, exactly the sounds I wanted. I might buy them off him because he says he's bored with them now hah.

Chris 11-04-2006 04:11 PM

^^^
Natural are nice, but i found that they where a tad to heavy.

Class Hats are better (Though new beats sound better recorded).

London Prophet 11-04-2006 09:49 PM

Ok I'm looking for a second/alternative/replacement (not sure which) ride. I presently use a Zildjian A Ping Ride, Which has nice stick definition but not the greatest bell, and not the best quiet jazz sound (more "rocky").

I want:
- A Zildjian Cymbal, either K or K Custom
- With a loud and distinct bell (preferably large in size)
- A good jazz sound, especially for swing
- Short decay, I don't want it building up sound during fast swing
- Clear stick definition, shouldn't ring too much
- A little bit of a crash in it if i hit it on the edge
- Not too loud

Suggestions?

HeLLmO 11-04-2006 09:55 PM

K Custom special dry ride maybe?

drummguy731 11-04-2006 09:56 PM

K custom hybrid

We_Love_Lime 11-05-2006 10:22 AM

Those special drys are nice..

Bloodlust 11-05-2006 02:50 PM

hey guys i want to get a bell, like a Zil-bel, but im not sure if i should get the 6 inch or 9.5. I have ehard that the 6 inch one doesn't stand out at all and can barly be heard. Any truth to this?

Drum Phil 11-05-2006 03:14 PM

Depends.

They are fairly quiet.

Bloodlust 11-05-2006 03:22 PM

so if im palying a local show, small venue and unmiced kit, would the 6 inch version be audible?

Also how is the paragon ride? Is it crashable at all?

Drum Phil 11-05-2006 03:24 PM

Probably not

And no.

Bloodlust 11-05-2006 03:32 PM

what ride would you recomend for a good defined bell, yet a little crashabilty?

FL3P 11-05-2006 04:09 PM

A Custom medium ride.

That thing can be heard for miles man, I'd suggest going for the 9.5 one though cause the 6" is loud, but the 9.5 is louder.

London Prophet 11-05-2006 08:50 PM

I have a 6" Zil-Bel it's cutting!

I used to use it as the bell for my ride, it makes much mroe noise when inverted.

MeaninglessPhoto 11-05-2006 10:25 PM

Yeah, the Zilbel is a good bell for loud noises when inverted, its good for little chimes and dings on the other side.

Who makes those hihats?

I am looking for mid-priced but good quality pair of hihats for playing mostly rock and funk. I don't want something really heavy sounding, but equally I want them to be audible unlike some I've seen - I think it was a K or K custom 13" (those are probably too expensive anyway). They would need to sound fairly good open, closed and halfway?

Drum Phil 11-06-2006 05:49 PM

Ufip?
