Ahh, no fair :(.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-11-2006 02:42 AM
I mean, 7 songs? And if I remember correctly, the last two songs aren't that great in my book.
Quality over quantity.
They haven't lost anything my friend...
Tom's vocals are crap, and have been on a consistent slide since 1990. Jeff and Kerry's solos are worse than ever. Cult anyone? I though I recognised that solo, then I realised it's exactly the same as the one on Disciple! And the lyrics are just fucking abominable.
Religion is hate
Religion is fear
Religion is war

Religion is rape
Religion's obscene
Religion's a whore
And the Slipknot bullcrap thingy: No way. I think part of the reason why your thinking that is the production style they've begun to pick up on, which I like. They make it sound thicker, and heavier.
The production on Christ Illusion sucks. The guitar sound is thin, the tone is horrible and overall the album sounds as sterile as a Necrophagist record.

Prince Charming 08-11-2006 02:45 AM
Are you kidding me? That new crap is completely horrible. It borders mallcore about 50% of the time
You are right on:chug:

pate 08-11-2006 11:20 AM

Nowadays all the Hot Topic kiddies think Slayer is one of their beloved bands whose debut album came out post-2000. I kid you not, this group of them I ran into once were discussing In Flames. They said "Soundtrack to Your Escape has to be considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time, right up there with Pantera's Reinventing the Steel and Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical"

:smash:

Nostalgia 08-11-2006 11:26 AM

I remember hearing a quote for Kerry talking about how politics have no place in music, but yet, Cult's lyrics are totally anti-Christian, and they're not even really clever. Though religion isn't really a political stance, you can oppose Christianity easier than pointing out its flaws. That's why I think old Slayer is so much better. They sang demonic-related music, without basically trying to humilate Christianity.

Indeed.

"To fuck its sinful corpse" >>>> "Religion's a whore"

ashes_of_the_wake 08-11-2006 02:55 PM

I missed slayer on the unholy alliance tour... who saw them?

UpperDecker 08-11-2006 03:18 PM

I think the new album is great. One of the things that stuck out the most was the guitar tone, i just love it. It sounds so much more brutal. Fleshstorm, Jihad, and Eyes of The Insane are my favorite's.

SimonCore 08-11-2006 03:59 PM
Last 3 Slayer album are just Kerry King trying to be Slipknot bullcrap. Slayer are my favorite band, on the planet.. have been for the past 2 years, ever since I discovered them. But I won't lie to myself and say that they're still writing great riffs, they've pretty much lost it.
Jeff wrote all of Diabolous.

Bazarov 08-11-2006 05:29 PM

And then he goes and writes the lyrics to Dittohead... Oh Kerry.
I missed slayer on the unholy alliance tour... who saw them?
Me.
Jeff wrote all of Diabolous.
I'm mainly talking about lyrics. And anyways, Kerry wrote and composed that In the Name of God song.. Tom didn't want to sing it because it offended him, since he's a christian.

Aw3someman 08-11-2006 06:36 PM

I heard CI is going to be on billboard top 10 this week.

pep 08-11-2006 10:16 PM

I actually liked CI even though my mind was filled with the negative comments you guys have about it. I think its a solid album with good songs, although i didnt listen to much to the lyrics, that seem the weakest part of it.

I like most of the lyrics but some of them are corny. Atleast the way he did shouted went well with the rest of the music. I think I'm liking the cd the more i listen to it.

Shadows 08-12-2006 11:00 PM

Well that pretty much is what Slayer is about (not including solo's in bad places). Since the first time i heard Slayer one word came to mind, chaos. Thats what Slayer is all about to me and they didn't let up on the new cd. Same deal with new Cannibal Corpse.

AA-12 08-13-2006 12:02 PM

I like this name.

Oh...

Storm In A Teacup 08-13-2006 08:22 PM

I watched a bit of "Headbangers Ball" and saw a little segment with Tom Arya. If it was even Tom Arya, he looks incredibly aged from what I thought he looked like. I couldn't really tell if it was him, but it must be. I had no clue he was even gone gray, or so much older looking.

DeafForever 08-13-2006 08:32 PM

I didn't see that Headbangers ball, but I know that Tom does have a good deal of grey in his beard, so I would'nt doubt it if that was him...

Storm In A Teacup 08-13-2006 08:52 PM

He looks 60.

loathed 08-13-2006 09:01 PM

Tom is already 45...its not uncommon for him to grey...

but i'll have to look at him...really looks 60?

pate 08-13-2006 09:23 PM

He looks pretty damn old.

FatalEnergy 08-14-2006 12:14 AM

Probably all the cocaine and meth and **** they did back in the day.

Shadows 08-14-2006 12:38 AM

Dave Lombardo is the only one who isn;t starting to show his age. Maybe it's just the sunglasses he's been wearing. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Araya has been offered senior citizen's discounts when he goes shopping.

pate 08-14-2006 12:40 AM

  Senior discount on Hot Topic items.

I don't think Jeff looks so old. The pics I've seen of him only show a little gray on his goatee.

playguitar 08-14-2006 12:41 AM

He doesn't look that old, just a little worn. Now Hetfield...grampy?

pate 08-14-2006 12:44 AM

Hah. Truf.
