Throat rape is hawt

But seriously, get out of this thread.

epihasi 09-04-2005 06:29 AM

Ok, new topic. I don't know if it's already been asked, because I didn't look through the thread, but what's everyone's favoritre acoustic parts of songs?

Mine would be :

Godhead's lament ( around 4.49)
Black Rose Immortal ( I guess at 10 minutes)
Serenity painted Death ( Don't remember exact time)
Karma (Also, don't remember the time)

penelope_weird_hands 09-04-2005 08:31 AM

i haven't heard the first 3 albums or deliverance, although i have a download of my arms, your hearse at %90 };p~

but from what i've heard my faves are...

3:43 godheads lament.
pretty much all of benighted. ;p
8:07 serenity painted death. that Aminor riff is FVUCKING genius. prolly my fave. i guess epihasi and i mean the same part perhaps.
4:47 the leper affinity .. who in their right mind would not enjoy this? (+vocals)
4:25 bleak.
1:45 the drapery falls.
1:47 blackwater park. which then goes heavy and pwns all.
0:39 death whispered a lullaby. reminds of metroid for some reason. great melody.

and ANY acoustic parts on ghost reveries.. they own all.

penelope_weird_hands 09-04-2005 10:21 AM

yes !!
halfway through the amen corner atm.. unbelievable!

but!..
i'm at the official opeth site.. reading lyrics to the album and i heard no words during madrigal..

and apparently is should be..

" Our abode īmongst the stars is waiting, long enough for our last breath of life. You stare at nothing, right through me, at times resembling the Devil's concubine. And me, I am the idol that would long to caress our eyes until they would open no more. I would comfort you if I only could, but as we all know by now...I am just thin air. Unaware as you are of my presence, you are losing yourself. Hiding within The Amen Corner "

and i hear no singing..
yeah.. whats the deal?? :( :(

Hells Bells 09-04-2005 11:09 AM

Lyrics during Madrigal? That confuses me...I also hear nothing. I think what it might be is an explanation of the song to fit in with the concept of MAYH, maybe to let people see that the song is actually part of the storyline as opposed to just something to add to the atmosphere of the album?

the album is a concept album and it has a story through every song, yet madrigal doesn't have the vocal aspect to it, just the story aspect.

the2stranger 09-04-2005 11:14 AM

same goes for prologue and epilogue

Heh, yeah that's what I thought about it too, but I didn't realize it until I read penelope_weird_hands post. I had always thought it was just an instrumental until now.
^

Is there a description for those songs too?

IMO Epilogue has the best lyrics of all three of them.

indeed
I have the text printed on a piece of papaer and fixed it onto my wall, so I can look at it whenever I want. :)

I agree.

Hells Bells 09-04-2005 11:44 AM

Oh yeah of course there's a description, I remember reading the lyrics to MAYH. I haven't seen many concept albums where the songs are tied together as well as this one, the last word of each song even leads into the next one.

Epilogue
There it was.
The final destiny.
A sunrise that never came,
still the night lamp that never faded away.
Farewell was the word,
and the afterglow was the brave morning.
Rising and telling everyone
about the beauty of its PROLOGUE.
Mikael is a fantastic songwriter.

Does anyone else hate TGC video? The thing that really gets me is that none of the band members face is shown AT ALL. They have their hair in front of their face to be "mysterious" (the word I imagine being thrown around when the video was being made).

Ok, seriously, I ****ing hate this video badly. Why does that guy with the mask have to lip sync the growls? Am I suppose to want to smash a guitar over Opeth's head for having such an atrocious video? They probably had little say in it the making though, but why shouldn't the band be blamed for such an awful creation?

Now onto the album! 1 and 2 are amazing. There are some of the best acoustic bits in them. 3, 5, and 8 are good. 4 and 7 are skip worthy... even though I won't skip them yet until I get a more finalized grasp on my opinion.

Isolation years would be an awesome song to end on if the track itself had a respectable ending, but it just kind of shut downs.

Atonement is just kind of boring along with TGC. TGC has some great parts, but the verse is dull and the main riff is too similar to BWP's last riff. I'm going to try to analyze the 2 riffs to see just how similar they are. My hypothesis is that it will have identical interval movement with a different cadence.

Darkness 09-04-2005 01:34 PM

The videos fine... its not the best, but who cares. The CD rocks, and thats what matters. Oh and BWPs last riff is that little fade out acoustic thing... how is that similar to TGCs riff?

bucket 09-04-2005 01:36 PM

The last riff.. I don't consider the a acoustic outro dealy a riff.

The thing right before that part.

i am the robots 09-04-2005 01:39 PM

I am going to check this out.... will return in a second.

Yes, I see the similarity.

bucket 09-04-2005 01:44 PM

I just listened to them both back to back. I have a feeling I will be eating my words.

i am the robots 09-04-2005 01:46 PM

I saw some similarities actually, but definately not the same riff...

I love it.

I saw TCG video and was very disappointed. The performance was cool, but the concept didn't make any sense at all. Was it just me or wasn't it Lopez playing drums?

Darkness 09-04-2005 07:30 PM

Its not, I believe Gene had to fill in for him again (I read that somewhere..). He must be really sick.

Deth 09-04-2005 07:33 PM

Yeah, that's not the best of news. If he can't even be in the video, it must be bad.

Darkness 09-04-2005 07:36 PM

At least he played on the album... or so their telling us...

Deth 09-04-2005 08:05 PM

I hope he's alright for the tour :(.

Can Gene play all the songs or do they have to stick with a smaller set-list because of him?

Darkness 09-04-2005 08:12 PM

Couldn't tell you, but I imagine he can play most of the songs that they will be playing on tour. He nailed Deliverance and The Grand Conjuration when I saw them, as well as To Rid The Deaise and Demon Of The Fall.

Fallen Zero 09-04-2005 08:14 PM

Gene is amazing, but i would hope to see martin back when i see them in november

Where's your show at? Orlando is still about an hour away from me, but whatever.

Did you go to the Mudvayne/Shadows Fall/In Flames/Trivium show last night in St.Petersburg?

Deth 09-04-2005 08:27 PM

I'm down near Ft. Lauderdale.

I didn't even know that show existed, though I only really care about In Flames and Shadows Fall on that bill.

It was a great show. It was at Jannus Landing(My new favorite venue. That place kicks major butt for concerts. You can see perfectly from everywhere. Its in the middle of the town in St.Peterburg, and is outside. Its very personal). It was like an off-date for Ozzfest.

Trivium were pretty good. I'm not really a fan of them, but they sounded talented guitar-wise. In Flames kicked ass. They were soooo good. It was my 2nd time seeing Shadows Fall, and this time was even better. I finally went into the crowd, and accidently ended up in the circle pit area, really close up to the stage. That was one of my best cncert experiences though. Oh yeah, Shadows Fall played...brace yourself....."The Light that Blinds"!!!!! And then Mudvayne were really good. I stood in the back, because I was exhausted from Shads. Even though I hate most of that type of music, I like Mudvayne. They put on a great show. I love their first album. All in all, In Flames and Shadows Fall were unmatched.

Right when Mudvayne ended(about 11:00 pm) it started raining. It was the perfect way to end a concert.
