Don't trust Wiki as far as you can throw it

Metallica have definitely sold more than enough records to be way inside the top 50 selling rock bands. WAY inside.

Record sales =/= greatness though. Otherwise, you'd all be worshipping Mariah Carey and shizzle.

No band I listen to is based on how many records they've sold. Though Metallica do reach a lot of people because they are a commercial metal band. This in turn gives them more record sales. They have it sewn up :p

:smash:
they have the num1 metal album
well sort of. apetite for destruction sold more than black album as did led zeppelin IV, so it depends on your definition of metal.

im pretty sure that thing about them been 7th biggest american act is accurate, cos ive heard from several diffrent sources. including their website.

fatbandit 01-16-2006 09:48 AM

Appetite For Destruction = metal.

LZ IV = not.

Phallus Dei 01-16-2006 11:21 AM

Well I could believe number 7 american act but then if you take all the UK bands they would be bumped down quiet alot. Oh and they have sold over 100 Million, that was me failing at multitasking, so that was my fault.

BLS_Infernus 01-16-2006 12:09 PM

either way they are a huge as band and they have sold an *** load of records.

I so can't wait for 'tallica to get done with the new record and touring again

Jev 01-16-2006 12:12 PM

Me neither. I'm starting to get excited about it.

Phallus Dei 01-16-2006 12:14 PM

Whens the due date? Or any guesses when?

I don't have high thoughts for the new album though. If I end up thinking its going to be as good as RtL or MoP or what not it'll end up being a St. Anger. Which is still decent just not Metallica great.

Jev 01-16-2006 12:16 PM

Due out sometime in the next few months.

BLS_Infernus 01-16-2006 12:19 PM

I'm guessing by mid spring to summer

heavy metal kid 01-16-2006 02:08 PM
Appetite For Destruction = metal.
AFD is hard rock, in fact everything GnR is Hard Rock, heavy stuff i must admit but not metal.

I think the album will be released 'till 07, they are in the Studio but i think this year is a bit premature.

Heavy Metal

BLS_Infernus 01-16-2006 02:21 PM

they are Hard Rock and are listed as Hard Rock...Slash himself said that they are hard rock

Mr.Metalton 01-16-2006 09:51 PM

GnR is deffinently not metal. I think you would probably kick your *** kicked for saying GnR is Metal.

Sph 01-16-2006 09:54 PM

This is the Metallica thread people!

NP: Battery (Live)

Live Metallica > Studio Metallica

heavy metal kid 01-16-2006 09:54 PM

The double bass is way slower than the recordings, also the guitars sound a bit slower too.

Stormrider 01-16-2006 10:20 PM

Havnt seen them live either. Only saw Cunning Stunts...

Sph 01-16-2006 10:21 PM

I really need to see them live, but you don't many chances in Australia. :upset:

heavy metal kid 01-16-2006 10:23 PM

I saw them in 04, it was awesome, the air was full of energy.

My favorite moment was Rob's bass solo, too bad the audience only reacted to the Orion part.

Bazarov 01-16-2006 10:34 PM

When they played One, the effects were extremely awesome.
