Well you'll probably get the approval of all the mods so I want to make a deal with you. You count one of my pages and when you do yours I'll count one of yours. Yay or nay?

When will this counting commence because after tonight I won't be on until Tuesday but if it isn't in that time then sure. You will have to tell me how the counting works mind :thumb:
Hello. How's it going?
it's all good, wrote a prog-ish song today for my band, with some crazy time signatures and some unusual guitar/bass intervals (for example, the intro is a 12 bar sequence, split into four groups of three bars - the time signature for the four bar groups is two bars of 3/4 followed by one bar of 7/8. in the four groups, the interval between the bass and the guitar (who are playing the same thing) is a fifth, a fifth, a fourth and a major ninth.)

and yourself, 'tender?

Good work on the song.

I'm good. Broken up for Easter now, and I was happy to find that my time off is longer even than I thought it was.

So I'm going home on Sunday, the only disadvantage of which is I'll be back on 56K.

And if you want to tell me which page(s) of the guitarists thread you want me to do, then just tell me now, and I'll get started. If I don't have your e-mail address, could you e-mail me at medopalismx@hotmail.com so I could send my pages back to you.
I plan on getting Blue Lines Monday.

My email is bjschyma@hotmail.com

I'm trying to convince my band to do a rendition of "The Partisan" by Leonard Cohen

I hate having writer's block. I haven't been happy with something I've written in weeks :(

GurS 03-18-2005 04:11 PM

AH, welcome to my world. I haven't written a decent poem in months, and I wasn't happy with two of the stanzas anyway.

Maybe ya'll can help me fix them?
Maybe y'all can help me fix [my stanzas]?
I'd be more than happy to, but I'm a bit worried about posting the things I have written for fear of being ridiculed, which would be inevitable :)

GurS 03-18-2005 04:20 PM

Ok, here's my craptacular poem in all it's 'glory', written on the 7th of October, 2004

I lost my faith in humanity last night.
I read the news papers.
11 year old child attempts to rape 76 year old woman.
12 year old child attempts to rape 10 year old girl.
8 month old baby is raped.

I lost my faith in humanity last night.
People no longer think.
We went to war to save ourselves.
We went to war to save the Iraqis.
We went to war for an exchange – blood for oil.

I lost my faith in humanity last night.
I watched CNN at 12 30 in the morning.
Terrorist attack on Israeli tourists.
Terrorist attack on Egyptian hotel.
Terrorist attack on a fellow muslim country.

I lost my faith in humanity last night
I watched CNN at 12 30 in the morning.
Went to bed at 1
Went to sleep at 6
Had nightmares.

I hope,
One day,
We all stand before God, each and every one of us.
The world’s leaders are there.
They bang their gavels on a human child.
Stoners, losers, drop outs line the walls of the great white hall.
Next in are the children.
I pray for the children.
Then are there are the businessmen.
They all clench their fists.
They all clench their fists.
They all clench in their firsts blood-soaked money.
Then there is the average idiot.
Baying for blood
Baying in hatred.
All we seem to be able to accomplish, as a race, is new reasons to blow each other up- and the means to do so.

I run up to the middle of the hall.
I collapse,
Sobbing,
Crying, pleading.
In the centre of the hall
In front of God
Stands a woman, naked
Blood smeared on her thighs.
I know she has been raped.
She whispered to God:

“I am the bastard child of humanity.
Please judge me kindly”

I really feel like crying.
Dear God, someone please kill us all and start again.
I’ve lost all faith in humanity.

cheers. I feel that the second stanza definatly, and possibly the third, is too blunt.

Bartender 03-18-2005 04:27 PM

Does anyone know how to turn the sound off on Madness, without just turning all sound on the computer off?

Jom 03-18-2005 04:31 PM
Does anyone know how to turn the sound off on Madness, without just turning all sound on the computer off?
Sorry. Put headphones in the jack and put the headphones around your neck as opposed to your ears?
2nd and 3rd are too blunt
Let me read it over, but I think the first half was the part that drew me in most.

Of course, I'm more blunt and straight-forward in my writing. I don't try to beat around the bush as much. I mean, yeah, I'll have symbolism and personification, but I think I prefer bluntness over ambiguity.

Bartender 03-18-2005 04:36 PM
Sorry.
Why? :-/
Put headphones in the jack and put the headphones around your neck as opposed to your ears?
Nah, I'm trying to find a way to listen to music through the computer, without hearing Madness sound effects :) Thanks for the suggestions though.

same, i havent written in like 2 weeks now

Jom 03-18-2005 04:41 PM

I think me trying to write as other people instead of me writing as myself is the biggest monkey wrench in my mental cogs being jammed up.

I'll explain what I mean in a minute.

Jom 03-18-2005 04:53 PM

Okay, when I write, I try to write through the eyes of different people. Usually, it gives me a creative edge, but obviously, I'm going to hit a roadblock or two since I don't know the experiences these people have had. That's when I get stuck, and if I write a bunch of BS, the work is going to read awful.

GurS 03-18-2005 04:57 PM

seeing as there's three writers here, shall we do a chain-poem? four lines each?

You can start AH

Do you mean specific (named) people, or just a different type of person (like a farmer, a banker, a secret agent, etc)?

Jom 03-18-2005 04:58 PM

Uh oh... pressure's on for me not to suck :)

I'll edit in my lines when I write them.

EDIT @ Bartender: it depends... both, really. I try not to be so specific as to name a specific person in history, but sometimes I have done so. I would say that I pick a general person, though, moreso than not.

EDIT:

Why bother with faith if you refuse to believe?
After I've been in the lowest of valleys
Or been fed to the dogs to feast on my pride
I’ll be born again, untouched and alive

EDIT: Yesssssssss! What a lousy way to start a poem!

GurS 03-18-2005 05:06 PM

After I've been in the lowest of valleys
Or been fed to the dogs to feast on my pride
I’ll be born again, untouched and alive

I've seen all there is to know
I've understand all that is before me.
You can believe in what you believe; you fail to see
That this knowledge, dark and sacred, is mine alone.

Jom 03-18-2005 05:11 PM

[sorry to interrupt the poem, but can anyone add lines, or how is this working?]

...?

Bartender 03-18-2005 05:18 PM

I think the idea was that Eleventeen would add the next four lines.
