I really really like the sound of that ride, but cant try it anywhere in person

drummguy731 10-16-2006 04:07 PM

Yeah, I know how ya feel man, it's like an underground cymbal line.

al98 10-16-2006 04:14 PM

Ano its annoying, sadly there nothing you can do about it, its either go by sound files or go for a different ride

Inkstar 10-17-2006 05:06 AM

I'm looking for some cymbals that will match my playing style:

I'm really getting into prog rock/metal, so I guess I'll need some heavier cymbals. I play ALOT of Dream Theater, and at times that can be pretty brutal on the cymbals, so yeah.

But also, nothing thats TOO heavy/metallic, because I still like to play some jazzy music (I saw the K Custom Dry Light Ride today, and quickly played it - absolutely loved it, but it wouldn't match heavier music). I also play some metal/hardcore as well.

Drum Phil 10-17-2006 05:07 AM

Avedis/A Custom

drummguy731 10-17-2006 03:34 PM

I'd go with A customs, maybe look into a K hybrid crash. But A customs are pretty sturdy, I mean, come on, look at the price

Drum Phil 10-17-2006 03:55 PM

I got to play a Hybrid crash today.

OMG!

Sex.

FL3P 10-17-2006 04:26 PM

I've got the 19" hybrid and it is indeed nice.

Drum Phil 10-17-2006 04:34 PM

FL3P 10-17-2006 04:38 PM

I was supposed to take some nice pics of the kit for about the last 6 months but I never did get that far haha.

MeaninglessPhoto 10-17-2006 05:08 PM

Then get up and go do it :p

FL3P 10-17-2006 05:11 PM

The camera I have doesn't work very well which why it's taken so long. That and I'm lazy.

White Riot! 10-17-2006 07:35 PM

Whats your colonies tagline?

We_Love_Lime 10-17-2006 08:28 PM

USA - Land of the Free

That's all we could come up with.

drummguy731 10-17-2006 09:16 PM

Ireland, land of the sheep?

EDIT: Either way, post some dam pics

drummguy731 10-17-2006 09:37 PM

ok, I asked this a while back, but I'm doing it again with the hope someone may have had some experiance. I'm thinking of getting some 13" A custom top/Z dyno bottom hats, anyone had good/bad experiance with them. And to stop this from happening, no, I do not want new beats, I've tried them and IMO they sound waaaaay to washy, sorry all you new beat enthusiasts

Inkstar 10-18-2006 06:00 AM
Avedis/A Custom
A Custom are far more expensive, yeah?

Drum Phil 10-18-2006 06:13 AM

Not far more.

A touch more.

The store i use for cymbals says they're £10 more.

Inkstar 10-18-2006 06:15 AM

I dig. Danke Phil.

Seafroggys 10-18-2006 06:50 PM

The Avedis is much better!

Inkstar 10-19-2006 02:00 AM

A Custom seem far more thinner.

White Riot! 10-19-2006 06:28 AM

Cant say i like A's. Dull and Clangy comes to mind

Inkstar 10-19-2006 07:19 AM

Avedis, Riot? I agree. I love the New Beats, but the Medium Crashes are shocking. They're way too thick (medium? more like ultra 1000-page-book thick) and metallic imo. That's why I like some of the Custom's - they're thinner and faster.

Plan B. 10-19-2006 10:54 AM

I miss my 18" A Medium, I could play anything with it, had a great bell and a lovely varying response. Whatever you put in came out accordingly.

Zildjian 10-19-2006 11:48 AM

I could score some vintage 14" Sound edge Hi hats for $150... What you guys think?

oliv_da_skinmasher 10-19-2006 02:51 PM

For 150 man you shud go for it.

I'm looking for bright (not too bright) cutting ride for play middle of the road rock to hard rock. any ideas guys?

Dave*Grohl 10-19-2006 02:56 PM

Zildjian A 20" medium ride...you can play anything with it

Dunno, seems too middle of the road for me, too pingy for jazz, too washy for rock, but that's just me.

I find it to be awesome for jazz! For rock its good too! but it is a bit washy yes, depending on how you play it

oliv_da_skinmasher 10-19-2006 04:23 PM

You got any suggestions?
You got any suggestions?
I actually think the 20" Dark Ride is a great cymbal, that's just me though. I try to use a medium ride in jazz, and it just sounds too tinny and loud IMO, but I guess it's just me.

White Riot! 10-19-2006 04:50 PM

you really need a thinner ride for jazz for the sounds I tend to like/prefer in a playing situation

although i would save the brighter/pingier rides for big band type stuff

Cocaberry 10-19-2006 07:38 PM

AAX Dry Ride
AA Raw Bell Dry Ride
AA Medium Heavy Ride

Good ping on those. For more wash/less ping, try an AAX Stage ride or AA Medium Ride. Both those are crashable.

For more ping than the above rides, try an AA Heavy Ride. For maximum ping, try a Paragon Ride or a Zildjian Earth Ride.

I dont know where to post this, so I guess ill post it here. So i have this 18' ZXT crash/ride, it sucks i know. However as of lately iv seen like the edges are changing color, and this small rust-like dots are appearing. Is this normal?

I'm also looking for a relpacement to ZXT. I'm looking for a ride with nice bell sound and crisp. Loud enough to work in a rock/metal band.

Thanks for the help.
