The shop I go to always gives me a plastic shopping bag to carry mine in.
Oh and I have no idea what Wet Dream is. |

Oh and I have no idea what Wet Dream is.
Rick Wright's first solo-album. I should buy that one on vinyl as well, seems that it's not that rare, I've already come across it on a few occasions. And walking around with vinyl is cool, I only use bags to hold them together and to cover them if it's raining. My new bagpack is big enough to fit some 10 to 14 LP's though, so that's handy. |
Yea no bags :/
Without any doubt that is lyrically my favourite song ever.
"You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking, and racing around, to come up behind you again" Best lyric in the world, evar.
What about "Strangers passing in the street/By chance to seperate glances meet/And I am you and what I see is me" |
"The sun is the same in the relative way but you're older, shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."
Ownage. |
Wish You Were Here > all Floyd lyrics.
"The sun is the same in the relative way but you're older, shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."
Ownage.
One of my favourite lines from DSOTM, hands down. My favourite song, lyrically, is Nobody's Home though. |
You have two animal shirts? I don't even have one Pink Floyd shirt. All the ones on ebay are cheap asian ones. Where do you get yours?
My mommy bought it for me :D |
One of my favourite lines from DSOTM, hands down.
My favourite song, lyrically, is Nobody's Home though.
I've always been a fan of Nobody Home myself. |
I think I'm gonna have to go with Brain Damage as my favourite song on DSOTM;
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear you shout and no one seems to hear and if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the dark side of the moon To me those lyrics alone give the album such a strong ending. And then Eclipse is like a fantastic encore. |
Wish You Were Here > all Floyd lyrics.
Nobody Home pwns WYWH's lyrics |
I adore all of the Brain Damage/Eclipse lyrics. The line that hits me the most, always has given me chills, is:
You raise the blade, you make the change, you re-arrange me 'till I'm sane. |
Personally I really like The Final Cut (the whole album) over all other lyrics.. It really touches me and I don't know why.
|
Nobody Home pwns WYWH's lyrics
The imagery in WYWH is much stronger as is the general conceit and expression, and whilst nobdy home is a great song, it seems to get slightly repepitive. Still a great song though. But WYWH stands much better on its own whereas Nobody Home is a brilliant album track;it works better because it plays on the character arc already covered in the album, whereas WYWH gives the full impression in one go. |
Yeah, Not Now John is so fantastic, lyrically.
"There's too many homefires burning and not enough trees" |
My mommy bought it for me :D
I have the pink floyd shirt that just says pink floyd and then it has a felt pig. It's pretty cool, even though the pig is falling apart. My mommy bought it for me :D edit: Not Now John and Fletcher Memorial Home are my favorites from final cut. |
Yeah the end of DSotM is great lyrically.
Everything under the sun is in tune/But the sun is eclipsed by the moon |
Echoes doesn't have my favourite lyrics but for some reaosn they really stand out to me. Could be the awesome melody.
|
My other favorites from DSotM (or in general) are:
"Up... and down.... and in the end, it's only round and round." |
I was in Hot Topic the other day (if anyone says a word I will cut) looking for band shirts. They had 4 or 5 different Pink Floyd shirts, but I dont have enough money right now. They had an Animals one, with the pig and the smokestacks, and another shirt just had the band standing together (syd was in it). There were a couple more I can't remember. But I think I might get the Dark Side Of The Moon 1973 World Tour shirt.
Oh, and Animals >>> WYWH |
My other favorites from DSotM (or in general) are:
"Up... and down.... and in the end, it's only round and round."
I saw that Classic Albums: DSotM thing where it juxtaposed that with videos of all these political riots and it made it seem so much more powerful. |
Two Suns in the Sunset
"In my rear view mirror the sun is going down Sinking behind bridges in the road And I think of all the good things That we have left undone And I suffer premonitions Confirm suspicions Of the holocaust to come. The rusty wire that holds the cork That keeps the anger in Gives way And suddenly it's day again. The sun is in the east Even though the day is done. Two suns in the sunset Could be the human race is run. Like the moment when the brakes lock And you slide towards the big truck You stretch the frozen moments with your fear. And you'll never hear their voices And you'll never see their faces You have no recourse to the law anymore. And as the windshield melts My tears evaporate Leaving only charcoal to defend. Finally I understand the feelings of the few. Ashes and diamonds Foe and friend We were all equal in the end." I think we have a weiner :p That bolded part is my favourite lyric ever. Although the second verse in Time is utter brilliance. So many!!! :amaze: |
This may seem a little stupid but are those lyrics about the A-Bombs that got dropped?
|
Basically it's about a man experiencing (and dying as a result of) the dropping of a nuclear bomb and the time or date is really non-specific. It could be an alternate take on present day. The detail is frightening. Particularly in the last verse.
His metaphoric words in the second stanza are fantastic, and his description with "suddenly being day again" and "the sun is in the east, even though the day is done" I just dig entirely :) |
I think he is driving a car while it happens too. Talking about breaks and windshields. Actually its pretty damn obvious when you see the artwork(I have it on LP dunno if its different on CD)
|
I thought it was about a car crash too, what with the sampling of wheels squealing, the girl screaming "Daddy!" etc.
Though it might be all metaphorical! Who knows!? |
I actually don't think it is for a change. It's more depressing to think this person was probably coming home from work to see his wife/kids (possibly the character is a woman, so husband/kids). And getting wiped out before you could see them one last time.
|
I think he (Roger, that is) meant it to be a metaphor for the nuclear bomb idea, but I think it works either way.
|
right, my reading:
character is driving home in their car. They watch the sun (the real sun) as it sets in the rear view mirror. Then, the 'rusty cork' possibly a metaphor for control of/responsibility for nuclear arms, 'gives way', i.e. a bomb goes off, and its day again; the atom bomb is the second sun in the sunset. Post bomb, nothing is left but ashes and diamonds, people having been turned into both (humans = carbon based, diamonds are created from carbon at high temperatures). Since everyone and everything has been turned into 'ashes and diamonds', everything is equal which is a nice touch of irony to finish the song on. So in a way, you're all right. There is driving, and there are nuclear bombs going off, all at the surface level of the piece, whilst the metaphorical subtext is alluding to the nuclear arms race ('foe or friend') being like a car crash ('the moment when the breaks lock = the moment when the bomb goes off). |
Yeah, that's basically what I thought of it.
on another note, Interstellar Overdrive is awesome when listening on headphones. |
