I've been listening to a lot of The Roots, Outkast, Strange Fruit Project, and the Black Star album lately.

Would anyone by chance have some recommendations for more hip hop for me? It would be appreciated. I listen to a little bit of gangsta rap but I'm liking the hip hop sound at the moment.

And no that movie never appealed to me before but now that I'm getting into the music a bit I might need to see it.

Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, Main Source, A Tribe Called Quest, Organized Konfusion, Aceyalone, Common Sense, DJ Edan's mix-tapes, INI, Masta Ace's newer work, Marco Polo's new CD, and if you are into lyrics I'd check out Ras Kass. I can upload some stuff for you if you'd like.

I have to go out and suggest Jedi Mind Tricks, hah.

Anyone like the new Saul Williams? It's insane.

Win A Rabbit 11-08-2007 01:42 AM

I forget who it was, but whoever sent me the rep comment with Sole & The Skyrider Band in it, thanks so much.

Just what I was looking for.

:)
Anyone listen to Black Star? Mos Def and Talib Kweli?

I'm getting into rap, or hip hop or whatever.
Yeah, they're great. Check out A Tribe Called Quest if you haven't yet.

Oh and Ghoul Hunter, actually I'm downloading the Block Party DVD at the moment. I have high expectations for it.

AA-12 11-08-2007 06:56 AM

You won't be disappointed :)

That was poopie. He made a thread about it in A&I. I received it as well, but haven't given it a good listen yet.

Got myself the Chronic. I can't say it's love at first hearing, but there are a few fine tunes on there.

AA-12 11-08-2007 07:19 AM

You heard 2001? It's far superior (i'm going to get murdered for saying this).

badtaste 11-08-2007 07:23 AM

I've only heard the popular tracks off it.

Wyko 11-08-2007 07:38 AM

Which are the good songs of it. Except maybe What's The Difference, which is pretty good too.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-08-2007 07:38 AM

I don't like the guest rappers on 2001.

ATM 11-08-2007 08:00 AM

I got in trouble for having 2001 in my bookbag back in 7th grade. (strict Catholic school)

But it's really not. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like 2001 and all but there's no way it's better than The Chronic.

40 oz 2 freedom 11-08-2007 01:24 PM

It took me years to finally realize The Chronic was better than 2001.

Lil' Ghetto Boy.....fuuuuugg

Apocalyptic Raids 11-08-2007 08:18 PM
I didn't think there was much difference, it's just Snoop, Nate Dogg and whoever else was in Dre's house at the time on both.
but Snoop was in Dre's house less on 2001 :(

pulseczar 11-08-2007 08:19 PM

Whether it's the Chronic or 2001, the point is he's still D.R.E. and he's still got no love for police.

badtaste 11-08-2007 08:27 PM

Time to give The Chronic another spin.

Snoop fan?

i am the robots 11-08-2007 10:28 PM

I still prefer 2001 to the Chronic. Both are pretty sweet though.

Chronic lacks breakdowns, you see.

Doggystyle is so good. Except for a couple of songs, I think I prefer it to The Chronic.

Know what CD I like? Black Sunday.

Thanks. Jurassic 5 is one of my favorite hip hop groups easily, but I havent listened to any of the other artists you listed. I downloaded a couple Common albums last night so I'll have to give them a listen.

i am the robots 11-09-2007 04:04 AM

I don't post in this fred much, any of you guys into El Nino by Def Squad?

Kyle 11-10-2007 08:50 AM

Can somebody upload me Doggystyle? Wierdly, It's a hip hop album that I never really bothered with.

Didn't upload it myself but just did a blogsearch:

It's a great album, Ain't No Fun has to be my favorite track, no matter how childish the subject is.

badtaste 11-10-2007 07:06 PM

Am I the only one who finds Flavor Flav's voice really annoying?

Eliminator 11-10-2007 07:19 PM

most people do

AA-12 11-11-2007 12:23 AM

Yeah a lot do. He's awesome though with Public Enemy.

So guys, recommend me some good hip-hop. Something with interesting beats like JMT/Sage Francis.

You are not at all alone here. Big fan of PE, not a big fan of Flavor.

ATM 11-11-2007 02:15 AM

Josh, you might like Sean Price.
