Dark Side of the Moon is the best album lyrically, personally. Although SOYCD has amazing lyrics.
They're catchy, but I prefer animals' more thought provoking lyrics or the wall's more introspective lyrics personally. |
Its close for me between dsotm and wywh.
wywh's lyrics are more noticable lyrics for me because of personal reasons, but dsotm i can see from any persons view and be just as good |

Dark Side of the Moon is great, but I find myself identifying more with the lyrics to the Wall. As sombody who is constently fustrated with school, government, and the things people use to fill the empty spaces, I find when I listen to the Wall I feel like Roger is talked directly to me. Its almost like he knows me and is putting them in words that make the hard parts of life not seem so difficult. Like I've said before its kind of funny how all of lifes little problems and complex parts seem just so simple when everything rhymes and has a melody. |
The wall is good lyrically...and is great for being a rock opera, but i dont think its near one of floyds best albums. It just seems more of a bunch of songs about a theme, rather then their concept albums, which sort of mold together (both lyrically and song-wise), and i just cant imagine 70s floyd releasing an album with a bunch of songs thrown on it.
But it is a piece of art though...maybe my 4th or 5th favorite floyd album |

Oh yea and the Wall has a HUGE drop off for instrumentals. Its my favorite lyrics wise though. My favorite instrumentally would have to be Meddle. My favorite creativly would have to be Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and my overall favorite would have to be Animals. Yea I could never decide my favorite so I had to create a bunch of differnt sub catagorys for it. |
The Wall is probably my third or fourth favorite Pink Floyd album. WYWH is my favorite, but I'd have to say that overall, DSOTM is the best album of all time, when you factor in every aspect of what makes something "great." But that's just my opinion.
|
You know I was just listening to Dark Side of the Moon, and you know I was thinking and there is a line from there that ties with my favorite Floyd line.
"I don't know I was really drunk at the time" |
Heh. That was said by the guitarist for Wings.
|
Listening to AHM, very, very cool so far. Lyrically, I'd agree with Deus on DSOTM or SOYCD for my favorites. Although The Wall does have its good moments (Waiting For The Worms, In The Flesh, The Trial. Ok, The Wall rules too)
My favorite instrumental album is probably Ummagumma. |
I still don't have Ummagumma... I need to get on that.
|
My favorite instrumentally will have to be WYWH.
Sorry about the avator change pigonthewing...it was short-lived, i know. Im planning on getting Umagumma next...but honestly have never seen it in a store in my life. I dont even know what the album cover looks like (or i may not have known it was if i saw it). Still, i really want to get that before atom heart mother or the final cut |
The Final Cut is overrated. Seriously. I would recommend getting any other Floyd album before The Final Cut. Lyrically, its great. But musically, its VERY substandard.

 Its one of my favorite albums. There's something amazing about it, just the way it was recorded and how they played it is awesome. I'm talking about the live disc. The studio album is cool too, pretty sweet songs on there. You guys should get it, Echoes too. |
I like the Hero Returns, though the rest of the album is lacking.

I think so too. It feels like you're listening to them in a 60's club in London. Which IMO is better than seeing them in an arena or something. Does anybody want to have a PF chat on AIM? |

I don't think its overrated I think its status is just fine. I've never heard a single person say a good comment about it with out a bad comment about the instrumentals. I'm not saying that they are good, because they arn't. But yeah I would't get it unless you like Roger's solo career, or just want to finish your collection. But don't expect anything good, even the lyrics arn't as good by Waters standereds. |

Man, I just realised Empty Spaces to Young Lust is one of the best transitions on The Wall.

I have seen that, though i might have confused it since it looks similar to the Echoes - Greatest Hits album. Same setting and all. Ill look into it, and buy it the first chance i get |

It is, but I feel that Empty Spaces to What Shall We Do Now was a better transition, does anybody know why they cut it, I love that song? |
AIM chat? I'm down. IM me and invite me. My screenname is DeusExMachina107.

How does it sound on tape? Probably sweet, right? |
Awesome ++. It sounds so warm, it's amazing. Waaaay better than what you guys describe the CD as being like.
|
What's the set list for the live part in Ummagumma?
|
What's the set list for the live part in Ummagumma?
1. Astronomy Domine 2. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 3. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 4. A Saucerful Of Secrets |
About The Final Cut.... it has started to grow on me. It creates such a great atmosphere. There is also that great sax on "The Gunner's Dream"
