i would like to ask the mods for my old account back as i made a silly mistake and i would like to apologise and hopefully be forgiven. I was banned, and i'm not sure if it's permanent, for making a thread about recommending me music in the R & M forum. I never really noticed there was an official one then i was banned so i've been trying since to get in contact with a mod and explain so i got a new account, came on here and now i'm saying to you my story. My old account had the username big and you can contact me at sponge_bean@hotmail.com. I think munky_magik had something to do with it but i fully well respect his decision to bring it to the mods attention it's in his nature to keep the forums clean. Thanks for your time :thumb:
Whats your main users name?
my main user name is big, i joined in august and had around 850 posts

munky_magik 01-11-2005 12:39 PM

It shouldn't be a perma ban.
And if you make threads in the wrong places then I report them, what happens as a consequence is the Mod's wisdom. Try finding out how long you have left on your ban in the site forum, and just wait for your ban to pass.
Also, though I'm not sure on this, isn't there a rule saying if you get banned in R&M, then you aren't allowed to post in here under another account?

Abishai 01-11-2005 12:43 PM

How do u make a new thread?

Eh sorry I really have no idea how to start a new thread! Call me a noob but hey atleast tell me how :).

SonorKen 01-11-2005 12:44 PM

you have 2 days and 1 hour left. I would suggest you spend a few minutes and read the rules to R&M and look over the official link list to save you any problems in the future.

Your ban can't be lifted tho, unless it is a moderator error or if there was a flaw in the ban process we don't really lift bans. R&M is the strictest part of this forum. We are strict because we have so many users. This time last year this place was total chaos, the hard nosed approach has cleaned the place up and makes it a great place to hang out. A few people can't adapt to the way R&M is ran and either continually is banned or gets frustrated and leaves. There are HUNDREDS up hundreds of users who post here every day, enjoy themselves, and never have a problem with the rules. This lets us know that the rules are good and are working.

oh now see i've gone and unconsciously broken rules in the best of intentions i never meant to break more rules by doing this it's just i didn't really know what was happening so i set up an extra account to see if i could get my old one back i didnt know whether or not it was permanent sorry no harm intended!

It says I dont have enough priviledges? eh what do I need to do

shortass 01-11-2005 12:48 PM

SonkorKen on my MXican account did get a three day ban for repeat offending or something different?

SonorKen 01-11-2005 12:49 PM

You have to wait 24 hours to make a new thread. Im curious, what thread do you want to start?

And yes there is a rule about making another user and posting in R&M. This is geared more towards people disregarding the ban, logging on a new user and resuming regular activities on the forum, thus abandoning thier punishment. These people will have the bans on thier primary user extended. I don't mind if someone uses another account to check on why they were banned, although it should be in the banned user inquiries. BUT! I don't go to the banned user inquiries anymore and I don't really mind the R&M users asking here. For the most part R&M users who get banned are new users, or users who are veteran users here who log on drunk or just get emotional and post alot of bad posts. I don't consider them problem users, just people who need direction or someone who made a bad choice so I don't mind discussing thier bans with them in this thread.

Abishai 01-11-2005 12:51 PM

I am extremely picky about the music I use for videos I am seeing if anyone has anything similar to some bands cause I cant find many that fir the criteria.

It was one of 2 things. You posted in multiple spam threads or you created a bad thread. Usually a bad thread ban is 3 days. I don't remember why you were banned, I could research it but I really don't wanna do that either unless you REALLY want me to. Then at that it would probably be tomm. before I could.

shortass 01-11-2005 12:53 PM

You don't need to check I was just curious why. Must have been posting in multiple spam threads because I haven't made a thread in ages.
Thanks :thumb:

Post a message in the "Music Reccomendation" thread. You are wanting reccomendations on what music to put in videos. This is a perfect example of why people should understand the forum, read the rules, and have a grasp on this place before making a thread. You would have created your thread and it would have been closed.

Make a post in the music recomendation thread at the top of the main page.

Fair enough!

I wish there as some kind of way of sending each user a message alerting them to new stickies etc... since PM's are disabled. I think one of the problems is that people honestly don't notice them.

Advertising and bumping an old thread :)

yeah why were private messages deleted the forums my sister uses has them i think it would be a great way to get more mx-ers talking and chatting instead of clogging up threads with chat to each other. Of course it would be followed by strict rules and monitoring but i think bringing back the pm wouldn't be such a bad thing.

i strongly forward this motion trust me on this

munky_magik 01-11-2005 01:38 PM

I have no idea why, but usually the community thread/the pit/ aim chatrooms takes care of all the chatting between users that needs to be done. Also if anyone really wants to chat there's the independent IM programs

EDIT: beaten to it by med

SonorKen 01-11-2005 01:45 PM

Yea, I will create a new Rock and Metal announcement later

bomber 01-11-2005 01:49 PM

are there any suggestion threads in other forums or do you not deal with that?

munky_magik 01-11-2005 01:51 PM

You can suggest stuff in the site forum.
I don't know about other forums.

This guy bumped his own official APC thread from dec

I have an idea though I don't know how it will work:

When a thread is submitted it is not automatically displayed but goes to a thread that is there soley for ratifying the submitted thread, If a mod clears the thread then it is displayed. It would cut down on spam threads but I have no idea about how to do it.

You mean like the pending system that there is with the tabs?
It's a good idea but it would really take to much manpower and time to be run efficiently otherwise huge backlogs would be created and the forum woudl slow to a halt whilst all the threads are being approved.

EDIT: 3 times in one day just really isn't funny :(

Silenius 01-11-2005 05:56 PM
It's actually an option with vbulletin, but Jeremy would need to enable it. Although it would work, I'm against it. First of all, as the mods can't be on all the time. Lets say 2 out of the 4 in here don't get on for a day, then one gets on, and approves 20 new threads. Front page fills with new threads, old ones die, and the quality of discussion worsens, as every few hours a new wave of threads hits the front page, rather than them being spread out.
It would cut down on spam though, I guess the threads would have to be gradually approved, not all of them at once.

Bartender 01-11-2005 06:14 PM

If it were possible for threads made by members registered in the last month or two to be sent to a moderation queue before being posted, I'd like it.

I'm sure there would be a way to do that if you guys really wanted to.

The main problem I think is the manpower.
