I've got a question : In "Bleak" off of "Blackwater Park", about 3:25 into the song, is that Mike singing? The part happens again later in the song as well.
"Devious movements in your eyes Moved me from relief Breath comes out white clouds with your lies And filters through me You're close to the final word You're staring right past me in dismay A liquid seeps from your chest And drains me away Mist ripples round your thin white neck And draws me a line Cold fingers mark this dying wreck This moment is mine" |
S= Steven Wilson
M = Mikael
Wow. I honestly didn't know that. Thats awesome. I think its cool how on Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and ****ation, you can really see Steven's influence. The riffs, the vocals, and the keys. The Drapery Falls has one of my favorite Wilson influenced riffs. The lead part in the beginning of the song with the slide. Peter plays it while Mikael strums. It starts around 1:53. Likewise, I could immediatly tell which song Mikael helped with on "Deadwing". |

He is a great musician! |
the drapery falls has no piano, :-/
I think you mean the leper affinity |

I think you mean the leper affinity
That's right, sorry! :thumb: |

I think you mean the leper affinity
I was just about to say that. Anders had some pretty nice piano parts on Orchid. Silhouette is a great track. |

true, and it took me dozens of listens to realize there is subtle keyboard playing on quite a few tracks of morningrise, esp. to bid you farewell. |

Demon of the fall has cool keybards although it isn't Anders as he left the band after Morningrise |

when has some keyboard too, I really wonder how Opeth will sound with Per on keys as a regualr member. I'm a keyboardist my self, so I really liked it when I first heard he was to join them permanently :) |
I think he'll generally be involved in creating more atmosphere. I really hope they give him some solo sections though, hes a fantastic keyboardist.

Spiritual Beggars is a stuning band (i prefer them from Arch Enemy) and Per a very good keyboardist. Just wait until August 30th to see him with Opeth :D |
They might put keyboard and piano in old songs aswell.
That would be cool. |

Yeah! Even his playing on the Opeth DVD blew me away, really emotional player. I like what I've heard so far from GR. |
I'm surprised at how many people aren't digging the new songs yet.The Grand Conjuration is understandable I guess, but Ghost of Perdition? That song is fuckin mind blowing.I'm sure everyone will come around eventually. It's very good material thus far.
|
I love both, personally.
|
I'm waiting for the album to hear them. I don't want to spoil my opinion on them before I can get good quality songs.
|
I'm listening to ghost of perdition right now and its easier to love, especially when compared to the grand conjuration, because its quality is markedly better :)
I've only listened to each track once and I'd be foolish judge them from only that, but I'm getting a fresh vibe from what I've heard so far and that's definitely a positive. I'll also probably be waiting for the album to truly *listen* to the tracks. |
So, I've been band-whoring a bit recently, and I had a pretty promising jam today. The guy is a HUGE Opeth fan, and we seemed to be into alot of the same stuff, which was cool. Go me! :p

I second that, my good fellow! Will Power, it's the name of the game. |
**** willpower. I WANT IT NOW!!!!!
|
ghost of perdition is an amazing song. I seriously got hooked on the first listen! It blows away the grand conjuration by a mile and totally makes me rethink about what the cd may be like! I think I'm done listening to anymore new Opeth because I do not want to spoil myself! I can't wait until the new cd comes out, they should release it early.
|
I'm sure it's old news, but why did Opeth sign with roadrunner?
|
They've had no stable record lable.
|
anyone seen opeth on the sounds of the underground tour yet? i'm going on monday to the seattle stop and was curious how they sound live.
|
They've had no stable record lable.
Surelly they could've done better then roadrunner I was under the impression they were nazis who tried to influense artists to appeal to the mainstream for more sales. Besides don't they have all the I really can't think of a good band they have signed on...untill Opeth at least. |
Hey guys I bought Orchid 3 a week ago. IT IS AWSOME. I before that just had stacks and stacks of downloaded Opeth songs but Orchid is so good.
I was just about to say that. Anders had some pretty nice piano parts on Orchid. Silhouette is a great track.
Dam straight. It says on the Opeth website that Da Farfalla did not fit the band on a person level but I think he is a better bassist then Martin. His lines are great. |

His lines are great.
yes, he had some great creative basslines, and on top of that, he played fretless. but I love Martin Mendez'work too, and I think at this point I like his work better. esp. ion the dam'nation album and on the drapery falls, the bassline on that song makes the song so evil and dark. |
No Martin not bad or anything but I just find De Farfalla lines more appeling.
|
just a matter of opinion :)
I like both though. it would be so cool if during their gigs, Per would play Silhouette :D |
