Stephen King wrote the Shawshank Redemption.
:amaze: Really?? That's amazing! His best book ever! When did he write it?

temporary 10-03-2005 01:00 PM
Books are always a hundred times better than the movies....although I never knew Shawshank Redemption was a book. That must be a freakin amazing book. I love that movie.
The movie is amazing. I feel like crying at the ending every time.

Broken Arrow 10-03-2005 01:37 PM
I'm listening to Bringin' It All Back Home right now! I'm on Outlaw Blues right now. I think the studio version of Maggies Farm sounds way too tame after hearing Dylan play it live with the Butterfield Blues Band at the Newport Folk Festival (it was at the Newport Folk Festival right?)

Yeah, I was thinking that too when I listened to "Bringin' It Al Back Home" yesterday night,

Walrus Gumboot 10-03-2005 01:57 PM
Early 80s, I think. It's a novella, so it's fairly short, and the only of his works I've actually read.

The next couple of years should be good for film adaptions. The Da Vinci Code and The Rule Of Four are being adapted (I wasn't a huge fan of DVC but it'll be fun to watch now I've read it), aswell as James Frey's A Million Little Pieces, which I can't wait to see.
Wasn't the Rule of Four a complete rip-off of the DaVinci Code? The best part is that I have read TROF but not TDC, so I wouldn't know if it was a rip-off

I think the GOlden Compass should be comming out pretty soon, I've been looking forward to that

They are probably going to put it all into one film and cut out all of the racy anti-relgious satanic bits

Shame, really, I love that series

even though i have yet to read the books, im looking forward to seeing the movie. ive heard a lot about it. i also heard that they were taking the religious aspects out, which from what i understand, is the base of the story.

lame.

lame hollywood.

Walrus Gumboot 10-03-2005 02:23 PM
They were both written at the same time. They are similar, but that's more because the genre is popular right now rather than any real influence. The Rule Of Four is a lot better too, the Da Vinci Code is written like a Hollywood movie, whereas ROF is a lot more realistic and better written.
And here I thought the best was yet to come...

I think I was like many who were waiting for the DaVinci Code to come off of the waiting list at the library and checked out the Rule of Four instead

I wonder if those steam tunnels really exist at Princeton

Illmatic 10-03-2005 02:24 PM

My girlfriend read The Da Vinci Code and she swears it's one of the worst books she's ever read...so I am pretty much avoiding it.

PinkFreud 10-03-2005 02:42 PM

i took aderrall again and have hit a new low. i feel so angsty. i even made a lame update on my livejournal.

in other news, this time tomorrow by the kinks is a pretty song.

Broken Arrow 10-03-2005 02:58 PM

I was just listening to that album. I'm on Apeman right now.

Lunch 10-03-2005 03:00 PM

That album is great. The Contenders, Powerman, Apeman, Strangers, Lola, all great tunes.

Is that vicodin? Maybe that's Hydrocodine

I love that stuff, I kept some from the time I got my wisdom teeth out for emergencies, it's tempting, I'd love to break into that shash

Illmatic 10-03-2005 03:17 PM

I am now 100% positive that I am the most conservative person in this thread, at least regarding substance [ab]use.

PinkFreud 10-03-2005 03:18 PM

i wouldnt doubt it. i think leppermessiah said he didnt do drugs either though.

Broken Arrow 10-03-2005 03:25 PM

I haven't done any of those chemicaly things that you guys have done.

JPJ and Woodstock dont do drugs.

Walrus Gumboot 10-03-2005 03:28 PM

I don't do drugs, I just talk about them like I do. I don't even drink if I can help it

I don't mind a bit of someone else's weed, it's just not important enough in my life to spend time/money on. I'm sure I'll grow a field of it when I go to hippie school in VT next year

I don't really do drugs either. I only drink, but I don't drink very heavily like getting drunk every Friday and Saturday night.

I've tried weed, but I don't smoke it very often. I've had a few good experiences with it though.

Walrus Gumboot 10-03-2005 03:36 PM
When can you not help it?
What do you mean? My parents have bottles and bottles of vodka, wine, gin and tequila under the sink at all times, and I never tap into it

Well, almost never. Smetimes I get bored and forget what it's like so I'll have a shot when no one's looking. I've jest seen people get so pathetic with it, its annoying sometimes

You said "I don't even drink if I can help it", so when can you not help it? As in, what is a situation in which you'd rather not drink but do so anyway?

JonG 10-03-2005 03:38 PM

I've done weed, and drank. Had some fun times. I don't do either by myself though, always with friends.

Spain :)

I'm actually pretty anti drug. I mean, I'm alright with people taking most natural drugs, but non natural ones are really bad. I'm also really anti nicotine.

Illmatic 10-03-2005 03:47 PM

I only drink (and then, not all that much), and I try not to get self-righteous about drug/alcohol use, but in a college where "Dude, I was so wasted" can be heard just about anywhere, it's hard to keep quiet.

Jom 10-03-2005 04:03 PM

Hey jpj (when you get this, anyway):

Let me know if you received your e-mail with the stand-up routine upload. It's a beastly video at 300MB, but I still have the link just in case you didn't get it. Let me know, please :)

Broken Arrow 10-03-2005 04:16 PM

I got it :thumb:

I've never done drugs, not because I'm anti-drug or anything, not even close. I've just never done 'em.

MBS 10-03-2005 04:43 PM

Never done drugs or alcohol.

I just don't like the concept of it.

Jesus fancied wine.

magicbus 10-03-2005 05:07 PM

I haven't smoked since February, and I just started drinking in the past few months.

I really like Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. My dad has this album, and I don't know why I've never listened to the rest of it. All of the songs are cool, and Clapton really tears it up. (So does Allman).

"omfg guyz! i'm sooo wasted lolololzzz"

I hate that. I'll occasionally have a drink at social occasions, but never to the level of some idiots I know. I don't do drugs either.
shouldnt you be in school?

ive always thought that books were better than movie adaptations, bar very few. i disliked the lord of the rings movies, but then again, i disliked the books too. fight club was ok, but then they made the ending very hollywood. it messed up the philosophy a bit.

actually, i think the best book to movie adaptation is either the shawshank redemption (one of my favorite movies of all time) or sin city. both are remarkably faithful to the books.
I really want to read The Shawshank Redemption, because I love that film so much.

I read Fight Club in the summer, I thought it was pretty good. I'd say I like the book and the movie equally.

That wasn't the point.

Can anyone upload the album "The Division Bell" by Pink Floyd? I really want to hear it, because I've heard mixed reviews and I wanna see for myself. My email is inevergiveyoumymoney@gmail.com

Thanks! :)

I could rip it, and send it to you. Give me a while. TBH, I've never even listened to it. I took it from a kid I know, and never listened to it :)

Jom 10-03-2005 06:10 PM

Awesome, jpj. Glad you received the file alright.

Enjoy.

Woodstock 10-03-2005 06:21 PM

I pulled out Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus today. I forgot how good it was. The musicianship and lyrics are great, and the album has a great flow to it.
