I get kind of used to it. When I did my compulsory military service some years ago, I had to get out of bed at 5:50 AM.

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 10:22 AM

How long did you have to serve?

Tyr 02-26-2008 10:22 AM

10 months. It was awful.

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 10:26 AM

I bet, what job did they have you do?

ZapatoDiablo 02-26-2008 10:32 AM

Ah my French teacher in high school was from Switzerland, he told us how he got shot doing in the leg from behind while they were doing their excercises. The Swiss lol.

Tyr 02-26-2008 10:35 AM

I was in a marine ranger unit I suppose you could call it. It's not the right description, but close enough. The almost literal translation would be sea security company. We specialised in reconnaissance and countering attacking special forces units.

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 10:37 AM

Similar to the SEALs?

pate 02-26-2008 10:45 AM

How long ago was this, Bjorn?

Tyr 02-26-2008 10:47 AM

I don't know that much about the SEALs, but I think that they're more similar to our coastal rangers, an amphibious regiment somewhere in between the Marine Corps and the Navy SEAL. We weren't much of an attacking force, mostly defensive.

And I did my service in 2002-03.

superpeer 02-26-2008 11:07 AM

They won't make me do that if I happened to move to Sweden, will they?

I'm glad we don't have compulsory service here, god, I would have died.

Well, since your not a Swedish citizen you'd not be allowed to. If you happened to become a Swedish citizen, idk. Probably not. There's some sort of age restriction, but I'm not sure exactly which age. Nowadays it's more or less voluntary anyway. My youngest brother didn't have to do it. So I'd say you're safe.

superpeer 02-26-2008 11:17 AM

yay!

I'll probably be too lazy and unsuccessful to move, anyway.

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 11:19 AM

If I win the lottery, I'll move to Sweden and bring Jelle with me.

Tyr 02-26-2008 11:20 AM

You've been thinking of moving to Sweden, Jelle?

superpeer 02-26-2008 11:22 AM

Oh, I don't know. But it's the cool thing to say today, that you'll move abroad.

My (make believe) choices are: UK, Canada, Iceland, Sweden, Norway or The Netherlands. (:

Tyr 02-26-2008 11:24 AM

Even we Swedes think that Norway and Iceland are expensive =)

But it's a good list. I approve of all those alternatives, except maybe the UK.

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 11:24 AM

Iceland would be cool.

TojesDolan 02-26-2008 11:25 AM

I'd like to live in Europe.

someday

superpeer 02-26-2008 11:26 AM

Or perhaps Switzerland or Luxembourg, I could brush up my french. As long as it's not too hot, you see where I'm going with this.

The southern belles would probably suck your dick immediately when they hear your accent.

Nostalgia 02-26-2008 12:29 PM

People like you are rare; you are a unique and creative person who prizes individuality. Private, quiet, and socially cautious, only friends who know you very well probably see your more playful and expressive side, and it may take you awhile to feel comfortable with new people. Inside, you are a person of great feeling and you care deeply for the people and causes that are dear to your heart. Your personal values are most important to you so you always try to make choices that you feel good about. And you are rarely willing to compromise on anything that is really important to you. You can sometimes become overwhelmed by the intensity of your emotions, and your relationships need to be free of conflict or tension for you to remain in them.

You are also a highly imaginative person and may enjoy expressing yourself through the arts. But since you are also somewhat of a perfectionist, you may have trouble hearing constructive criticism without taking it personally. You are quick to understand the deeper meaning of things, and you often have a fresh or original take on events and people. Since you are essentially spontaneous and casual, you resist too many rules or too much structure. But you may also have trouble staying organized or making decisions. At heart, you are a non-conformist and must find the path that is really right for you, even if it means striking out alone.

That was my feedback for a school survey. I'm such a non-conformist.

That is nice, however. :)

gmoneyguy 02-26-2008 12:30 PM

how accurate is it?

lol

Nostalgia 02-26-2008 12:35 PM

Pretty accurate I'd say. Some of them fit perfectly even.

Your strengths may include:

Impressing people as someone with strong values and convictions.
Communicating well one-on-one.
Expressing yourself well in writing.
Being an attentive listener.
Demonstrating an interest in and broad grasp of big issues.

Your blindspots may include:

Being too idealistic and setting unrealistic goals.
Not being particularly well organized.
Becoming defensive if you perceives you are being challenged.
Not following through on important details and deadlines.
Being less than 100% accurate with facts

I'd say those are pretty right on, too.
