Thus I cure thine boredom.

Who here follows the CFL?

superpeer 09-23-2005 04:08 AM

Eh, maybe I made it up, but I remember something like that. Whatever, I failed that class for a reason, I guess.

the2stranger 09-23-2005 04:15 AM

in a few hours, my first band pratice without drummer again, it's very hard to come by a decent drummer these days

superpeer 09-23-2005 04:22 AM
You mean "fayled", right?
Yeah...

And I know, man, I haven't played with a drummer in over a year.

the2stranger 09-23-2005 04:41 AM

we were withut a drummer for four mnths or so, than we got one, but he couldn't keep up with us, so we decided it would be better if he left.
(we spent over a month practicing one 8 minutes song, bacause or drummer couldn't handle the transistions between riffs :-/ )

It's like that in my town, except with bassists. There are only two good bassists at my school, me and a senior guy.

NP - Tool - Schism

Shadows 09-23-2005 05:30 AM

You're lucky. Over here, we don't have drummers or bassists. Just a few guitarists here and there, but you can only have so many of those. :(

Thor 09-23-2005 05:37 AM

^^^
Our school has way too many guitarists, and only about 5 of them are actually good.

Shadows 09-23-2005 05:39 AM

Same with me. Except only two know more than just powerchords and whatnot.

Thor 09-23-2005 05:40 AM

Our school has some good guitarists, but most of them just want to play really boring and simple material.

Sweet, Jelle agrees. :)

Pantera doesn't all sound the same. Cemetary Gates and 5 Minutes Alone sound completely different.

No, I meant that Vince spoke the truth, kind of, they do sound very similar. Cemetary gates is an exception. :p

Back at my old school in Califuckya, it was allllll guitarists, man; you couldn't find a drummer or bass guitar player, everyone wanted to be cool and play the guitar and play Nirvana songs in the halls...I basically had to teach the beginning guitar class, too, because the teacher there knew NOTHING about playing guitar, how he even got hired is beyond me...

NP: Pantera- Flood

Fuck you, Vince!

Yes, one very good exception. Otherwise it's all very similar. Screw you guys who say otherwise :p

Arucard 09-23-2005 12:25 PM

Its the truth.

Anyway, who would be up for downloading a very big file tommorow, as it contains a video of my band playing a song live?

I would, is this your melo hardcore or your pop punk band?

Bartender 09-23-2005 12:49 PM

Hello all. Five days to get an internet connection (five days of waiting, anyway; once I actually went and complained, the whole process from applying to being connection took about 90 minutes :-/). Now posting live from University, anyway :)

The only thing that has stuck in my mind from all the pages I just caught up on was something about CDs, and buying CDs. Someone said that they'd never spend $30 on a CD, and normally I'd agree. I have been known to spend close to £40 on one album, though.

Also, I'm becoming more and more sure that eBay, in combination with Paypal, are the work of the devil.

Bjork - Post
Destroyer 666 - Phoneix Rising
Eva Cassidy Sings DVD
Lovage - Lovage
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Eva Cassidy - American Tune
Eva Cassidy - Songbird
DJ Spooky & Dave Lombardo - Drums of Death
Maudlin of the Well - My Fruit Psychobells.. A Seed Combustible
Death To Smoochy DVD
Nightmare Before Christmas OST

Not sure if I had enough money for all of this :-/ The joy/curse of Paypal being, of course, that you don't have to know.
Internet, CDs
Hopefully your uni connection works better than mine has been. The server seems to get overloaded about every night and crashes for upwards of an hour sometimes...which is incredibly lame.

Did you actually read everything you missed over those 5 days though?

I buy all my CDs via my checking account, so I know how much I have...and unfortunately how much I have is on a fast constant downslope :( As to Ebay, I've found with the shipping most people charge you, you can find a lot of it cheaper elsewhere. Stupid shipping :-\

Bartender 09-23-2005 01:16 PM

Yeah, I read everything I missed. Maybe not in great detail, but I gave it all a look, at least.

When I bid for things on eBay, I do so with the shipping in mind (if the shipping is a pound, and I want to spend no more than a fiver on it, I'll bid £4, for example). Besides which, decent stores (for anything that can be close to being called "obscure") around me always seem to be very few and far between, if not just non-existent, so if I can find something on eBay for £6 or £7 that I just can't find elsewhere, I'd happily pay an extra pound or so on top of that for shipping.

Shattered_Future 09-23-2005 01:25 PM

Lets see...

My music theory class probably has the best instrument players in the school...we have a drummer, a few guitarists, including me, and...uh...random other musicians.

I got 2 friends who play bass, one who's a beginner drummer (he's getting better though), and one who plays bass does a bit of keys.

Otherwise, my school's filled with MANY many people who think they're "too good" to take guitar lessons...it's astonishing.

Yeah, welcome back. Your uni sucks for internet connection, though :p
Good buys, as per usual.

EDIT: You just reminded me to buy Canvas Solaris CDs, danke.

Good to hear, I have been waiting to hear your melodic hardcore band for a while. Is it covers or original pieces and do you play guitar in this one?

I was gonna order them from Amazon for pretty cheap, £5.00 odd each, but was waiting till I moved out first. You're talking of internet and CDs reminded me.
Thank. How's Uni for you so far?
It's been really good, I've had so much fun and it's so good to be away from home. The people I live with are pretty cool, though some cooler than others, but none of them are really into music :-/

Actually, there is one guy who works in a shop in the union who always plays DJ Shadow. But I don't live with him.

Bartender 09-23-2005 03:14 PM

EDIT (to your edit): The guys who run the printing/fax/etc shop in the Union here play generally good music, of all kinds of styles, all day. From their own collections, too. That's all, though, and I rarely have need to go there :-/ In fact, to date, I've actually used the place once, to fax my postal voting forms back to Gateshead in time to register.

Our Union radio is frequently disappointing - it tends to be just whatever is popular at the moment, except with a special emphasis on the Kaiser Chiefs, loiners that they are.

People who are really into music seem to flee from my presence. I don't think I've ever actually met one. This is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Having said that, while I was waiting in line to bitch about my lack of internets earlier today, some American guy who lives a couple of floors above me, and a girl who lives in a different block, started talking about Minus the Bear. I don't know if I like Minus the Bear, but I know I've never heard anyone mention them in real life before. So there's hope.

They do seem to be rather hard to track down, I'll hopefully find some though.
I joined the rock society thing here, which cost me £3.00 - which I actually borrowed from someone else who wants me to pay it back despite the large number of rounds I buy him -, so I'll hopefully meet one or two through there.

So on the whole Uni is good so far. I've yet to start my lectures, etc.. yet so I imagine that it'll go downhill after those commence.

And there's also a Fopp in Manchester
Though I think it's about a twenty minute walk away.
