The soundtrack being The Harder They Come?
Yes
I don't know who jimmy cliff is.
He is a Reggae artist (Roots-Reggae specifically) who mixes some Pop in his music. He has an amazing voice and writes some great songs.

Illmatic 06-08-2005 10:11 PM

He also penned "Vietnam", which Bob Dylan once called "the greatest protest song ever written".

Yea, good song. Not that similar to his later/other stuff though.

I like his covers too (Ex. Obla Di Obla Da, I can See Clearly Now)

See, at least I know a little something about reggae. :)

Yeah, I know, but I felt compelled to point it out. Bob Dylan saying you wrote the greatest protest song ever written is like Ray Allen saying you have the sweetest J in basketball.

thickasabrick 06-08-2005 10:17 PM

Yeah Badmoon you sent me a Jimmy Cliff once...The Harder They Come was the title. Really good song, although it's the only one I've heard by him.

I'll post an album (The Harder they Come, most likely) if you guys want it.

jpj 06-08-2005 10:21 PM
I like Jimmy Cliff.

Also, "Freedom" is a really underrated Jimi Hendrix song.
It's been my favorite Hendrix song ever since I bought his greatest hits. I love the bass on it.

Badmoon: Please :)

Illmatic 06-08-2005 10:23 PM

I love the bass in it too, incidentally. And the intro and the lyrics, too...

thickasabrick 06-08-2005 10:44 PM

Alright I can't play mp4 files, and I tried downloading Itunes or whatever it was called, but when it was done downloading it said it only works for Windows 2000 or XP....any other way I can play mp4 files?

Badmoon 06-08-2005 10:52 PM

They're Mp3's, at least I'm pretty sure.

Quicktime plays them. You could download dbPowerAMP from www.download.com, and convert the files.

JonG 06-08-2005 11:05 PM

Quicktime and Real Player play .mp4s.

Winamp, Real Player, Quicktime play .m4a

Overall, I suggest you get http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Woops I meant M4A, not mp4...I can't think straight tonight.

Our Battle of the Bands was tonight, it was awesome. People went nuts when we played and everyone came up to us after and told us how amazing we were. A guy who owns a recording studio in a nearby city asked us to come record, I told him we'd think about it (we only have two songs anyways). We didn't win, actually..my brothers band won. They played two really cool songs, my brother played the djimbe and it made the songs sound awesome.

You told him you'd think about it? It's not everyday someone offers their studio to you.

Yea, by a longshot, but Casady's chances are slim, and I really think he deserves it. Lesh is a shoo-in (I hope).

And thanks for the album :)

Walrus Gumboot 06-09-2005 09:46 AM

Lesh's support is waning

I voted Lesh

Badmoon 06-09-2005 12:17 PM

I want you all to listen and comment on that album.

jpj 06-09-2005 12:34 PM

I can't listen to it now because I'm at my dad's.
Lesh's support is waning

I like that little slogan you posted in the poll thread :p

TheDMV 06-09-2005 04:28 PM

Over the past few months, Lesh has become my favorite bassist. =)

jpj 06-09-2005 04:38 PM

I listened to The Harder They Come, and I didn't much care for it, at all.

BludgeonySteve 06-09-2005 04:41 PM

phil lesh was my second pick. Although I probably should have voted for him.

Well my dads friend owns a studio, and I can go there and record for free anytime I want...I just need to get a good band together. I'm not gonna drive two hours to pay for some emo guy to record me.

Yeah I just noticed how wonderful Phil Lesh was a couple months ago, he's one of my favourite bassists now.

iBENezrocker 06-09-2005 05:18 PM

Yeh, theres this kinda rivalry between emos who say they like classic rock, and cant tell you who hendrix is, and classsic rock nuts (myself) who hate emos, and understannd what real talent is. Who here will remember Led Zep in 20 yrs time?and who here will remember "my chemical romance"?

Where did that come from?

I don't have anything against people because they listen to emo, I have a couple friends that do. I just tell them to keep their music out of earshot of me.
What don't you like about it?
There's really not a particular thing I don't like about it. I just don't like it, or reggae in general.
