yeah, Yndi Halda is crap frig amazing.

Also I'm a huge Sigur Ros nutsucker, I think they're absolutely brilliant. You may or may not go for em based on your (very) legitimate complaints about most post-rock; unlike the guitars in Explosions, Jonsi's got a hugely distinct and interesting sound to his playing, really sets it apart. Maybe you'd be bored though

And that assumes you haven't listened to Sigur Ros, which is probably silly

Txus 12-09-2009 11:09 AM

I thought the last Sigur Ros album was absolutely terrible but their other stuff is quite good. () is my favorite.

Apoc 12-09-2009 11:11 AM

Med Sud doesn't really reflect their sound properly, it was kind of their 'pop' record. For what it was I enjoyed it - Gobbledigook is sheer goofy, happy pop nonsense - but it wasn't the post-rock I was hoping for. ( ), Takk, Agaetis Byrjun, all phenomenal.

Txus 12-09-2009 11:13 AM

Yeah, (), Takk's and Ageatis are the best.

med sud... is amazing. the beginning of the album is great to listen to, but then from ara batur till the end of straumnes is the best 20 minutes of music i think ive heard

feav233 12-11-2009 07:58 AM

Static 12-11-2009 03:02 PM

feav233 12-11-2009 03:46 PM
I liked Talk Talk, Spirit of Eden was nice, Mutyumu's Il Ya was excellent as well. I guess I prefer post rock that is bit more vibrant and exciting with timbral textures, the sort of dreary lo-fi stuff with tremelo picked guitars building up to a climax where some distortion kicks in comes off as dull.
yes.

talk talk, slint, gy!be, do make say think, tortoise, storm and stress and the six parts seven are probably the only pr groups i like anymore
I agree with you on that one with one major exception. Yndi Halda. If you haven't, check them out. They kind of fit the mold of that Explosions type, but they're really (really) good.

Enjoy Eternal Bliss is like a perfect album
yh gets pretty old quick. havent bothered to listen to that record for a couple years

i think that pg.lost does that style the best atm

Mutyumu is so amazing. And do check out Mono if you haven't. My favorite songs from them are Ashes in the Snow, Everlasting Light, Yearning, and Moonlight. Those would be great starting places in terms of songs.

Meatplow 12-11-2009 10:48 PM

aye, i've heard good things about all mentioned on this page

i'll get around to it soon enough

Poet 12-11-2009 11:07 PM

After you finish with your obscure neofolk or black kvlt ritual stuff lol.

Meatplow 12-11-2009 11:54 PM

i'm done with neofolk at the moment actually

i've broken into post rock with some mogwai i'll probably do gy!be next

rasputin 12-12-2009 12:39 AM

Txus 12-17-2009 09:25 AM

toe has a new album out

Bleekill 12-17-2009 12:46 PM

Never heard of them but which one are you talking about?

There are two groups with the name toe:

# toe (Japanese band) is a Japanese post-rock music group.
# Toe (American band) is an Chicago post-rock music group.

Txus 12-17-2009 01:16 PM

the japanese toe

Txus 12-19-2009 10:34 AM

ive never heard of them tbh

sounds cool, they should be called sad tacos

Nepenthe 12-19-2009 10:36 AM

and if the fact that i described them as a mexican irepress doesnt make you desperate to hear them, their cover art will
