Anyway, as I've made like a broken record and pointed out many times in the last week, my site is going live this winter. As soon as it does, anyone around here who can dedicate a site to their own original works let me know and we can link. The stronger a following we all build up via the internet, the less we have to depend on anyone but ourselves and our fans.

since 99% of bands learn to play via tabulature, covering other's songs, how the hell are there going to be as many people eager to learn guitar, sreating the bands of the future when just starting out? I don't play guitar, but I imagine it takes a long time to learn stuff by ear, which can be discouraging for young players. These Tab-books are very expensive, and who has the kind of money when they're 15 and just learning to play?
and all they'll learn by that is Gay Metallica songs, and other Mainsteam stuff, I doubt like hell that Darkthrone or sonata arctica are going to release Tab-books anytime soon.

Absolutely. I got the patch for it from Limewire a year ago (though it was for the French version, so although the program is in English, the error messages are all in French).

I'll just have to fire up a pirate program and see if I can't find it then.

I heard the new version with the real sound engines isn't worth the money at all.

EDIT: hehe, I just found the full versions of GP 4 and 5 over slsk. Hopefully I can get them to work.

I tried the demo. It really sucks. The interface is more stylized, meaning it's harder to read. The sound quality of the synthesized instruments is exactly the same. And the special MIDI features pale in comparison to software designed specifically for MIDI.

One of the users around here uses GP religiously. He paid $70 for GP5 as soon as it came out and said it sucked. Apparently the new sounds [I]only[/I] work for GP5 files, and any other GP files sounded like total s[SIZE="2"]hi[/SIZE]t.

I'll see for myself once the downloads start.

Don't. The demo monopolized my system, and after I uninstalled it, I spent over an hour and a half trying to restore GP4 to the default tab program.

This is absurd, there is no logic behind their money hungry ways what so ever.

I also wonder if contacting bands and informing them about such a thing would help put up a fight against this? (speaking of bands that aren't big enough to have tab books put out and such)

This needs to be handled, as they are going way to far with this one.

As I mentioned in Cain's thread in the Politics board, Sony's spyware debacle made no sense whatsoever. Since they used illegal means to investigate the online activities of their customers, any evidence they found of filesharing would inadmissable in a court of law.

Also, any person who was handed a lawsuit in such a case could be free to pirate from there-on-out because they'd already been tried once for the crime, and the case was thrown out due to Sony's illegal actions. No double jeopardy.

EDIT: Kind of reminds me of last year's case where Marvel comics sued NCSoft and Cryptic Studios for the City of Heroes game, claiming it allowed players to create carbon copies of copyrighted characters.

The case was dropped when someone discovered that Marvel was actually paying certain employees extra under the table to sign up for the game and create such copies in an attempt to pad their case.

I hate this corporate bullsh[SIZE=2]i[/SIZE]t.

They are sh¡tty because not everyone's willing to learn a whole album, nor they will be planning on buying the whole discography... As it has been stated a million times before.

It's curious that UG isn't getting any burn because they are located in some part of Europe (I can't remember if it was Russia) so U.S. laws couldn't be inforced with foreign countries.
