I bought Ummagumma and Animals yesterday in a "2 for $30" deal, which is sweet. I haven't listened to either album yet, however I have Ummagumma on vinyl :)

magicbus 12-15-2006 10:06 AM

You should be pleasantly surprised. Both of those albums are really good.

Lunch 12-15-2006 10:14 AM

I remember being obsessed with Animals for about a month after I first bought it.

magicbus 12-15-2006 10:16 AM

I listened to it last night, and then I listened to a pre-Animals bootleg too. The song names are all changed up haha.

Hamilcar 12-15-2006 10:19 AM

I'm not a huge fan of Ummagumma. The live record is pretty good but the studio record isnt that great. It was an interesting concept having each of the members write their own piece, but it really limited the final product.

Lemuria 12-15-2006 12:00 PM

I don't have Ummagumma... i only have Animals, DSOTM, Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd, Meddle, The Wall, TPATGOD, Wish You Were Here, Obscured By Clouds, The Division Bell...my favorite songs would be Learning To Fly, Speak To Me/Breath, Wish You Were Here, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond (All Parts)

ghettoeddo 12-15-2006 01:02 PM

high hopes is one of my favorite PF songs ever

MattSharpIsCool 12-15-2006 07:42 PM

Ineed.

And I'm gonna have to agree about Ummagumma. I love the live section of the album, but the studio section leaves some to be desired.

Yield 12-15-2006 07:59 PM

I have to change several past statements. I've said that I really don't like AMLOR. Well, I'm really starting to like it nowadays.

And yes, High Hopes is one of my favorites.

jacksonguitars13 12-15-2006 09:07 PM

i heard on the radio a little while ago pink floyd was offered 200 million to go on tour

rippa32 12-15-2006 09:09 PM

That was after Live 8. They didn't take it obviously.

MattSharpIsCool 12-16-2006 12:12 AM

I would give my left nut to see them live.

Riva 12-16-2006 12:25 AM

The Fletcher Memorial Home has always reminded me of the middle part of The Wall.

Montana 12-16-2006 04:16 PM

I would probably give up a body part to see all of Floyd play together live.

AMLOR is a decent album, in my opinion. On the Turning Away, One Slip and of course, Learning To Fly are all great songs. The guitar in On the Turning Away is beautiful.

AMLOR has some amazing music. Post-Waters era is defiantly challenged in the lyric department, but I think some of it is more well written than Waters era.. Gilmour wrote some good music. The guitar work on Post-Waters **** is breathtaking.

Jim 12-17-2006 01:35 AM

The Division Bell especially. David has said in interviews how he hated how many solos he did for the album. They're all stunning though!!!
The Fletcher Memorial Home has always reminded me of the middle part of The Wall.
I see what you mean. I could see it slotting in just after Hey You. That section is the most emotional IMO. Nobody's Home is my favourite ballad by them :)

Riva 12-17-2006 02:21 AM

Oh yes, I love Roger's voice when he says "There's still nobody home".

Post-Waters the band did some really great music, it's just that neither Rick nor Dave were ever really all that good at lyrics. Heh. And Nick never wrote any at all, did he?

Collis 12-17-2006 08:36 AM

Bless his little cotton socks eh?

Yeah Waters was seriously godlike when it came to lyrics, Time is the pinnacle of it for me ...

Danger Bird 12-17-2006 08:56 AM

Haha, I feel excluded with all you guys talking about late Floyd, because I hated Animals and didn't listen to anything they made after that.

Without any doubt that is lyrically my favourite song ever.
"You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking, and racing around, to come up behind you again"
Best lyric in the world, evar.

:amaze:

on another note, Time is my favorite song of theirs, the solo is wonderful.

randomthought9 12-17-2006 12:31 PM

Yeah, Time is one of my favorite songs by any band, it's so good.

rippa32 12-17-2006 06:33 PM

I used to think so but lately my favourite off that album would be Us And Them/Any Colour You Like.

CaptainWaits 12-17-2006 07:07 PM

After buying Animals a couple of days ago, it has become an instant favorite of mine. Still doesn't beat WYWH in my opinion, but I'd probably second it to that.

rippa32 12-17-2006 09:23 PM

It's always funny to see people decide if they prefer WYWH or Animals. They are both great albums though, however I prefer Animals.

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2006 09:31 PM

It's difficult to pick a favorite track from Dark Side because I usually just listen to it all at once without considering what track i'm listening to.
It's always funny to see people decide if they prefer WYWH or Animals. They are both great albums though, however I prefer Animals.
Animals for me because I just got a new Animals shirt. That puts my Animals shirts to 2 and my WYWH shirts still at 0. Although i'd like a WYWH shirt.

rippa32 12-17-2006 11:44 PM

You have two animal shirts? I don't even have one Pink Floyd shirt. All the ones on ebay are cheap asian ones. Where do you get yours?

magicbus 12-17-2006 11:46 PM

I saw a couple Floyd vinyls at a vintage clothing store today, including a pretty good looking copy of Animals. I didn't buy any though, I didn't want to walk around downtown with a bunch of vinyls.

I'm gonna go back and get Animals though.

rippa32 12-18-2006 02:42 AM

What's wrong with walking around with vinyl? If it's awkward to carry just use a bag.

Riva 12-18-2006 03:41 AM

He probably didn't have a bag.

I just got Wet Dream on vinyl. :D So happy.
