ok guys.
hh thin chinese 18"
hhx chinese 18"
signature devastation chinese 17"

taking in account price, volume, and trashyness

Drum Phil 04-09-2006 02:20 PM

HHX or Sig easy. What are you lookin for in the china?

Tim 04-09-2006 03:44 PM
HHX or Sig
my thoughts exactly. The sig will probably be more expensive though.

Drum Phil 04-09-2006 03:46 PM

Not always. 20.5" Chad smith explosion is cheaper than my 19" AAXplosion.

18" AA Thin crash. Opinions?

We have a 16 Zildjian Medium Thin Crash at school.

Sorta like an 18 AA Thin Crash.

Well it sounds like ****e.

Lol....

My knowledge is much appreciated eh?

WilliaMega 04-10-2006 05:45 AM

Im looking for a Crash I can ride in harder type music. Breakdowns, Chaotic parts, but versitalle enough to use as an accent or for lighter music...

dont go for anything heavier than a medium crash. Find a good medium thin with a good sized bell on it. LIke the Sabian AA medium thin crash. Or AAX plosion crash.

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 05:53 AM

I just compiled a list of crashes to try :D

17" A thin
18" A Medium thin
18" A Thin
17" A Custom fast
17" A Custom projection
18" A Custom fast

18" AAX Stage
19" AAX Dark
17" HH Dark
17" HH Medium thin
17" HHX Stage
17" HHXtreme

What happened to Drum Phil?

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-10-2006 06:12 AM

He was crucified but came back to life to deliver his message of love to the world.

What type of size would give you that better sound, I like the Projection Crash, but what about 18 or 19"?

And stay away from A Zildjians for this?

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 06:16 AM

Those were all ones for me to try but i guess they apply to your needs too. I tend not to like the bigger projection crashes.

Too long of a decay?

blabla 04-10-2006 06:19 AM
my thoughts exactly. The sig will probably be more expensive though.
i think the sig is cheaper, the hhx is kinda expensive for a china, i cant find the price you guys know it?
im looking for chinese that is trashy but moderate in volume. any other sabian china's you guys would suggest?

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-10-2006 06:20 AM

18" A Custom Projection crashes are your friend.

WilliaMega 04-10-2006 06:24 AM
18" A Custom Projection crashes are your friend.
I have Zbts that ive began with... I have a crash ride that i hate to ride it crashing because the decay is just too long, so i ride a 16" Crash, too short, i would guess a 17" would do fine, or even an 18" thats actually a crash and not a crash/ride, Ill go check them out anyway, just need a checklist of thiings to check out...

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-10-2006 07:05 AM

theres more to a cymbal's sound than its size. Crash rides are uslaly horrible things, I'd sugest getting that list that phil posted and going into a store and finding as many models as you can and try them out. Best way of picking a cymbal is to hear it yourself.

Definately try an HHX stage. :D. You havnt lived unless you have.

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 10:56 AM
Too long of a decay?
Its not that, i just dont like the tone that much.

Tim, i plan to try the HHX :D Hence why its on the list. Tried the A Thin today and its pretty awesome, think i want something bright like an AAX or A Custom though

fullmetalhaallee 04-10-2006 05:37 PM

OK heres my deal. I have the Avedis box set now, consisting of a 14 inch fash crash, 16 inch medium thin crash, 20 inch medium ride, and my lovely 14 inch new beat hats. I want to start adding on, but I dont know what to start with. I was thinking of 3 options.

A 17 or 18 inch crash- I would want it bright, and want it to open quickly, and not go on forever.

An 8 inch splash, bright and quick

Or an 18 inch china- trashy, quick, but also good ride sounds.

Which one would you get, and what cymbal matches it best??

THANKS!!:chug:

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 05:40 PM

I rather like the 20" A china high.

17" A custom projection crash

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-10-2006 06:05 PM

Go with another crash I'd say. If you like Avedis, try an 18" Medium thin crash, or you could go for an A Custom crash or projection crash, I'd say either one get the 18" model, when your playing with a band you wont need to worry about them ringing forever, the other intruments will cut out the overtones.

Very true, I was thinking K custom fast crash, again 18 inch, good idea?

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 06:17 PM

Yes it is. 18" HHX power crash might be to your taste as well.

fullmetalhaallee 04-10-2006 06:35 PM
Yes it is. 18" HHX power crash might be to your taste as well.
I like it but not that much, its pretty dark and deep sounding.

fullmetalhaallee 04-10-2006 06:37 PM

The K custom fast crash sounds great on zildjians site, anyone know how accurate that is?

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 06:40 PM

Pretty. I have the 16" fast crash and its amazing. The soundclips not bad like.

Quinto 04-10-2006 08:06 PM

yeah but soundclips arent really very helpful, they make 101's sound like the god of all turkish cymbals

FooBuddy1989 04-10-2006 10:47 PM

20" A custom medium rides are beautiful, and real versatile

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-11-2006 12:34 AM

I think Zildjian EQ's their clips quite a bit, so I'd only use it a guide. See if you can find one in a store, its best to hear them in person.

I'm sure Drum Phil could give you a good description of one, I think he has a 16" model
