I think he helped write some riffs. But i'm not sure.
|
There was the riff at around 1:40 in Impaler which Kirk wrote. It is the same riff at about 0:45 in Trapped Under Ice. I think there might be a couple of other riffs he wrote, but I don't think Exodus ever used them after he left.

The verse riff? It's pretty cool. |
Yeah, that one.
The song Impaler has that riff in it. Impaler was one of Exodus' demo-era songs, but they rerecorded it on Tempo Of The Damned |
I also think Cliff was a fantastic musician.
He IS my avatar. He's one of my favorite bassist and it's a shame he died...but he did. We have to understand Rob is the bassist now,and he does a pretty good job. I've been a bigger fan since I heard one of his solos as well. He's no Cliff, but man he's talented. |
They most likely would have kept writing thrash too.
What about if Kirk stayed with Exodus. I keep thinking about that too.
Metallica isn't thrash...while they were one the first bands to have that sound they aren't a thrash band. Lars himself said that. Kill 'Em All and maybe Ride the Lightning are thrash...also Cliff wasn't that big into thrash...the only person in Metallica in the early days that was thrash would have been Ron (bassist before Cliff) and Dave Cliff also had a very undefined bass sound...sounded great on the upper fret but the lower it got the ****tier it sounded |
Well what were they then?
|
Metal...plan and simple
|
Idiot.
They were thrash metal on their first four albums, which is what we're talking about Just plain 'metal' is far to broad a description. |
there sound isn't fast enough to mean thrash standards on Master of Puppets (ok Battery and MoP) and ...And Justice For All
also by calling me an idiot is called Metallica idiots seeing how I got that statement from Lars after reading an interview and he's statement was back by there rest of the band...Lars stated that the 1st aldum was thrash but they weren't thrash and moved away from the sound and quickly as they could |
Well Metallica isn't 100% any genre, they have played Thrash in Kill 'em All, Ride the lightning and St. Anger, they combined Thrash and Speed in Master of Puppets and in songs like Orion and the AJFA album they added Progressive sounds to some songs, after that they broke many of the orthodoxe rules of Heavy Metal with the Black album, in Load the expiremented with Hard Rock, Alternative Metal and even Country, same with Re Load, many of the bands they covered have nothing to do with Metal, and for some reason they have played with an orchestra.
There's many veriety in Metallica, that's another thing i like about them. |
Without a doubt. Jason had some awesome riffs and he also had more time in the band then Cliff did. I'm curious as what ...AJFA would have been like with Cliff.
It would have just been And Justice For All but you would have been able to hear the bass. |
Whoa, 3 months and this thread practically multiplies in size. Let me catch up....ok, on subject...screw it, change subject.
What would Metallica be like if they had Rob all the way through? |
I have no idea, I don't think they would have evolved as much as they have.

What would Metallica be like if they had Rob all the way through?
A regular Thrash band. |
It would have just been And Justice For All but you would have been able to hear the bass.
IMO it would of been a bit different |

That sounds great to me! :naughty: |
I have no idea, I don't think they would have evolved as much as they have.
i agree. as much as this new rob fella is raved about in playing ability, i dont think he brings as much to the creative table as jason did. |
i agree. as much as this new rob fella is raved about in playing ability, i dont think he brings as much to the creative table as jason did.
Well duh.We know Jason and Cliff were better bassist than Rob and did way more writing than Rob. But hey, they needed a new bassist and Rob was available. :thumb: (And he doesn't do a bad job either) |

I don't know about that...Rob didn't have anything to do with St. Anger since it was pretty much done with by the time he got there so whatever talent he has for Metallica's future has been untapped until we hear the next record...which I hear is the finishing touches are being put on it. |
uve got me all re-excited about the new album!! god i hope its not a letdown.
and didnt rob used to play for ozzy?? did he do much writing there? cood get an insight into his creative skills. |
Rob has played for suicidal tendecies(sp),black label society(\m/),and yes...Ozzy from what i've heard.
Im not sure what he helped with.. Meh ask Zakk Wydle. |
Rod played for Ozzy but I'm unsure about writing...I know he helped with something for Zakk on 1919 Eternal and he was in Suicidal Tendencies for a while so check out that stuff

We wouldn't have To Live Is To Die... |
Well duh.We know Jason and Cliff were better bassist than Rob and did way more writing than Rob.

I think AJFA has its own unique sound, because of the bass being so quiet.
IMO i dont think it would've had the same effect as a metal album tbh, im not sure why. But its such a metal album, havin 'regular' bass lines would've made it a 'regular' Metallica album. IMO any way :) |
We wouldn't have To Live Is To Die...
:starts to cry: f*ck i love that song :) |
We wouldn't have To Live Is To Die...
We might have a better version of it. |
We might have a better version of it.
How come? It was wrote as a tribute to Cliff. |
