I never got into Zao either. I've only her their new stuff, I think though.

Understanding In a Crash 08-28-2005 08:26 PM

ch-ch-ch-changes!

The way he sings in My Assassin is soooooo good...

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:26 PM

Is this FBTMOF that was power pop/pop punk?

Understanding In a Crash 08-28-2005 08:28 PM

Like the Bled's riffs are like constant rape. CHUGA CHUGA and then JUN JUN JUN with random WEEE OOOO's and PEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Puma 08-28-2005 08:29 PM

What does it mean to be 'tongue in cheek' anyway?

Yeah. Their old band. Same guys, different name.

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:29 PM

Songs please?

thomas is fast 08-28-2005 08:32 PM

I'm going to critisize The Bled. The two things that bug me are as follows:

They repeat lines too much throughout PTF. I don't know how their new one is. But they write a line and think "Hey, that's catchy, lets finish the last 3 minutes of the song with it!". For example "Lets set our hearts at self destruct. It's cool when Norma Jean does it, but The Bled can't pull it off.

I also don't like the fact that they dont' have a double bass. I dont' think breakdowns sound good without a double bass. It bugs me.

I'm asking my gf for the CD, we'll see. I don't have it. She went to school with them, not me :p

That doesn't make sense.

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:34 PM

What doesn't make sense Tom? And Vince, or anyone. Get me songs soon. This is great news i can tell my friends.

Comparing their two newest albums The Bled has evolved into a much more diverse and better band then Norma Jean. There are still things I like about Norma Jean over the Bled but the Bled definitely rips Norma Jean a new phagina.

BridgeToSolace 08-28-2005 08:35 PM
THat's the problem. Every band I hear that's in that genre sounds exactly the same. It's the worst genre ever. I can't name bands because I don't listen to them.
Okay then.

I listen to:

Real metalcore (50% hardcore, %50 metal)
Above this Fire
Cold War
Capital Tragedy
Bridge To Solace

Fake metalcore (Metal with breakdowns)
Conducting From The Grave
Asherah
Agony Scene
As I Lay Dying

New hardcore
With Honor
Comeback Kid
Where Eagles Dare
When Tigers Fight
Another Breath

Melodic hardcore
Beloved
Set It Straight
Thrice
A Wilhelm Scream

And I know old hardcore (but I hate it).
Gorilla Biscuits
Carry On
[And whoever]

Not a single one of them sound anything like FOT.

There are only three bands who I would ever feel comfortable comparing to FOT

Sound Of Animals Fighting (The least of the three)
Fordirelifesake (In second)
The Mod Flanders Conspiracy (the most similar, I think).

Seriously, what have you heard by them?

I don't mind Norma Jeans new album all that much. They do have a way diffrent sound than most hardcore bands out there now. Bless The Martyr and Kiss the Child slays Pass The Flask IMO.

I think Norma Jean is a little bit better musically. More complicated breakdowns. I always get pissed trying to play the one in The Entire World is Counting On Me and They Don't Even Know It.

Hahaha, I know what you mean. Good thing I can't understand screaming anyway.

I do like their breakdowns though. Nice and chuncky. Spitshine Sonata is an ace song.

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:40 PM

Donnybrook.

No not really, they aren't very good.

Permanent Solution 08-28-2005 08:40 PM

Jon: Whatever was on their pv.

P.S. FBTMOF's old band was 36 Flip. My gf is playing games with me about sending it though because I wasn't a huge fan of it when she played it for me :-\

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:41 PM

Just tell her to send it to me. :D

Im so selfish. :upset:

Their breakdowns all sound the same to me. Some of them have weird timing though.

My friend told me a long time ago that there are Zao lyrics that are bitching about some kids that flamed them on a forum.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? That's kind of funny, yet dumb to put in a song.

I don't mind.

I listen to In Due Time, Let It Die, and a few other bands that are just 90% breakdowns.

I'm a breakdown whore. Completely.

Permanent Solution 08-28-2005 08:46 PM

Ok Jon, I went back and am listening to their stuff again. Thus far, there are unique parts, and totally generic parts...but this wasn't the same sound I was associating with them when I was writing my responses. I apologize for that. However, it still doesn't do much for me. It isn't generic metalcore though except in certain parts.

Tjebby 08-28-2005 08:47 PM

No clue Kev. Its part of a Relient K album title though.

Me too. I enjoy some of Unearths breakdowns. I'll download some songs by those bands.

This Lying World is one of my favorite songs because of the intro.

The Saddest Day by Converge has the best breakdowns these ears have ever heard.

Understanding In a Crash 08-28-2005 08:48 PM

It's so easy to write metal core lyrics, just group together a bunch of sentences with witty/well rhymed remarks. In a breakdown yell something about killing someone or breaking something. In the outro just repeat one line 30 times. Don't even have a chorus or you'll be called gay by hXc kids. And the louder you scream and the sweatier you get you win.
