This is something I don't get. Students who skip all the time. It's like what's the point of going to school if you're not even going to attend class? It's a waste of money then.

that depends totally on why you're paying for school and whether going to class achieves those goals

because my professors are idiots and I have 33h of class a week + 4 lab reports to write a week + 5 midterms every 3 weeks so I'd rather just do my studying and learn faster than listen to some old tenured windbag that doesn't give two shits about me or the material he is teaching.

for example: my organic chemistry professor (who has been teaching this for forever apparently) 1) didn't know that van der Waal's forces are NOT the same as London dispersion forces and 2) said that induced dipole forces are the same as London dispersion forces. Anyone who had taken 5 seconds to look up London dispersion forces would know that instantaneous dipole forces are london forces and induced dipole forces are Debye forces.

If I went to all my classes and did everything I was supposed to I'd have a 70h week, which is a serious detriment to the quality of my work.

still have have an A average so FUCK CLASS

oh and some of my classes talk about the same stuff just at different skill levels. Distillation in physical chemistry is much more detailed than in organic so fuck organic, semiconductor doping is much more detailed in inorganic than in electronics, so fuck electronics.

i hate when people say this... im paying money for the school's resources and a degree not to listen to a useless prof drone on about something im not going to use ever again

like sure some courses are worth attending but about half of all my classes are useless lectures the department heads decided i needed to take and spending time listening to them talk for 3 hours is only taking away from more important things

Haha didn't need a novel man, I was just saying in general really. I've been to classes where I'd see people only show up on tests. There was one class where this guy didn't go to any of the previous lectures and showed up one day to do his presentation. I guess too it depends on the course. I know for my courses they're definitely more lecture/discussion based as opposed to text based so it's definitely beneficial going to every lecture. I guess I was basing my post on what I've witnessed.

Plus I like to get the full uni experience - meet people in class and shit.

That's like my classes - it's max 30 usually. And all the profs know my name and shit, it's kind of like high school in that way. I enjoy it though.
