so back in grade 10 i was able to do around 60 pushups without taking a break (being late for class really builds up those muscles ), but it was something i only did when i was late for class. then, the other day, i tried doing them at home. i got to 20 and was exhausted. so then i come into class late, and get told to do 50. i tell him i'm going to have to take a break, and he tells me to start doing them. i did all 50 without even breaking a sweat.

???

what's with that? anyone have any reasons for this?
I had a situation sort of like that in track and field my freshman year. When I ran in meets (800m solo) I usually came within about 15 seconds of our conference record, but in practice I couldn't even get close to that time.
good night's sleep will also help a TON with your health and productivity. get your eight hours!
i'm most rested on 7 hours. anything past that, and i'm groggy for the first few hours. but 7 hours is perfect for me. 5 or 6 does me good too.

but then again, i've been getting 5-7 hours of sleep 5 days a week for the last 3 years.

Jim you're honestly like a fountain of information. I can't even believe it.

Janeway 04-10-2006 10:00 PM

My internet is taking a dump.
A long, slow, twisty, dump.

it's a mental thing (same with the pushups)
Nice choice there ^ Mr. Romeo likes to raid the phrygian quite a bit
Why not mod the guitar forums too? :p

My theory is very limited sadly. But I do practice it daily.

Double Bass Jim 04-10-2006 10:14 PM

Haha nice to see ya caught that one

Ah, the phrygian. For some reason, I have more trouble with the phrygian than any other mode. It's really annoying.

Double Bass Jim 04-10-2006 10:48 PM

It's related to harmonic minor

You hear it ALOT now in modern music

Maggot Dream 04-10-2006 10:50 PM

Unfortunately, I have no idea what the harmonic minor is. I've only recently started teaching myself modes and their applications. They confuse me.

Double Bass Jim 04-10-2006 10:52 PM

When you think harmonic minor think Yngwie, he's all over it.

Janeway 04-10-2006 10:53 PM

Isn't the 7th scale degree just raised in harmonic minor?

Maggot Dream 04-10-2006 10:53 PM

I'm not big on Yngwie. He's all speed, no feel. I prefer players like Satriani, who's actually a decent blues player, along with having killer feel and technical ability.

Double Bass Jim 04-10-2006 10:58 PM

I wouldnt say that, he can toast some mean blues. And on the G3 DVD he totaly devistates Satch and Vai by 1000%
Isn't the 7th scale degree just raised in harmonic minor?
Thats correct

Everything relates and is apart of the major scale. You can look at any scale the note order and construction and it relates back to the the major scale it truly is the big bang of music theory.

Janeway 04-10-2006 11:00 PM

Gah.
We spent like a week on scales, three days of which were basically just the major scale construction. The entire class had been working with major scales since the fourth grade, but none of us were really that experienced with minors. But noooo. We can't learn those.
We've been doing nothing but analyzing chords since january.
That class was such a total waste of time.
I could have gotten a theory book and learned what I needed to know in a few months and NOT ruined my GPA over it.

/pointless

Maggot Dream 04-10-2006 11:01 PM

I guess I just like Satch's style more. He puts great emotion into his playing, and I much prefer his tone over Vai's or Malmsteen's.

That sucks, I learned alot of music theory in school early on and advanded it more on my own. I've always taken in interest in those things. It's nice when you hear something and you can pick the notes out and the modes.

Ah man, I love my girlfriend so much. She is such a good person, a great influence on me.

Maggot Dream 04-10-2006 11:11 PM

I had a fight with my girlfriend tonight. I think it's better now though.

Seafroggys 04-10-2006 11:12 PM

i told my drum instructor today that I had perfect pitch, and he spent half of our lesson praising me left and right for it.

Janeway 04-10-2006 11:12 PM

Man.
No matter what I do I can't pick out notes unless I hear it played by a saxophone. And even then it's not so good. It sucks.

Maggot Dream 04-10-2006 11:16 PM

I can actually get pretty close to the notes I'm looking for when tuning timpani without someone playing the notes for me first. Playing the same songs over and over again seems to help with that.

Double Bass Jim 04-10-2006 11:16 PM

It's pretty simple with a guitar or bass in your hand, just go up and down the low E till ya find the key your in then your set.

Janeway 04-10-2006 11:27 PM

Okay.
Unrelated, I don't care if you care.

"If art is aesthetics, I'd rather have something less ugly and random than jazz. If art exists to communicate, what jazz communicates is ugly and random, and I leave that to defective and confused people for whom ugly and random is the best they can appreciate."

Said on a forum of noise-metal worshipping dolts.
I've got this feeling my chest right now. It's kind of like theres a balloon that's steadily expanding. I just want to rub this mother fucker's nose in a pile of congealed dog shit and then jam a totem pole of used condoms and Queen Latifah CD's through his urethra.

Edit:
Oooh.
This one is good about gays:
"As it has been stated several times, it really doesn't matter. Since they have no way of reproduction, they will die out."

How did he not see holes in that statement? My god.

Janeway 04-11-2006 12:00 AM

The act of sex is totally disgusting. I mean, it goes against all of the hygenic standards that society has set for us. If you park your carcass on a bench in the middle of a busy shopping mall and jam your ring finger in your left nostril, the entire crowd will turn, point, and laugh themselves to hell.
But when you think about it, picking your nose isn't that different from fucking somebody. Sure, your vagina isn't filled with the debris that your cilia catch and is(normally) fairly clean, but of course, since your vaginal opening is so close to your anus, you're bound to transfer some fecal matter to your fluids. Most people don't have poop up their nose...
And if it isn't bad enough to be screwing yourself with your own fingers, when you're having sex, it's someone else inside you. Assuming it's a guy, he's transferring his sweat, urine, and seminal fluid, and his abdomen is getting an unhealthy coating of your fecal infested vaginal fluid, urine, and sweat. So it's like this giant steamy, nasty bath of poopy body fluids that we endure all for a measley 30 second orgasm.

Man.

Cocaberry 04-11-2006 12:10 AM

Yeah, I've never heard anyone compare sex to nose picking before. ROFL

Janeway 04-11-2006 12:14 AM

Yeah, but I was watching het porn and that popped into my head.

Cocaberry 04-11-2006 12:15 AM

Animals don't pick noses though.
