I noticed a difference. I feel like I'm fighting the bass less (my Schecter is a bit neck-heavy) to keep it more vertical. I felt less strain in my upper back from it too.
|
Hmm.
Actually, fair call, you guys do have heavier basses than me so I'm probably not likely to notice the advantages it might have in dealing with weight. My bass is almost light enough that I can grab it with one hand around the butt end of it by the bridge, and hold it out nearly completely horizontal . |
My bass isn't too heavy, but I had the body made from swamp ash for precisely that reason.
I dunno how much I buy this ergonomic positioning stuff. If someone has before and after pics I'll believe it but I never noticed any improvement when I was using a wide leather strap aside from it sticking to my shirt and being a bit annoying that way.
makes a big difference if you're playing a thunderbird. |
Yeah, I don't play one though so I'm in the clear :).
|
I'm not sure a leather strap is going to do any more for your back then the other kind? Unless it's just rubbing on your neck or whatever.
Padded, wider, better spread of the load (omfgsexpun). |
Hey Gaslight, we apparently got played on JJJ. Go us.
|
Where from?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=34CZVEQG :) Pickle, do you mean Frank Black Pixies or Frank Black Fall of Troy? Or maybe someone else...? |
Pixies, yo. And a bunch of great solo stuff.
|
I will download your file and listen when I've finished some recording.
|
Mornin', Cas.
|
Holy God, I'm so broke right now, and I just got paid today too.
I need to really cut back on my spendingand work some overtime. Still don't know how I'm going to pay for school this term. sh*t. |
I'm playing at a wedding in like an hour. Just kind of half dressed and waiting for my lift. Hurm. I'm bored and I don't like wearing a suit :/
|
Awesome man, three hour set and lots of money?
I'd love some wedding gigs, I bought a suit and everything. I never bothered to get around to actually looking around for the gigs though. |
Nah, it's not something I make a habit of. A mate of mine is getting married, and a bunch of us that he knows and play instruments are being the wedding band as a present. We're not that great - the drummer is good at playing the right things, just at the wrong tempos -_- Think we're only doing like an hour and a half or something.
I don't have the time to be in a functions band on top of my originals band, but if it ever went tits up, I'd be right in there making some money from it all :p |
Oh mad, sounds like you have that rarest of beasts, the enjoyable fun wedding gig. Wicked man.
I really want an excuse to wear my suit though. My superstitious side insists that it's because I haven't bought a tie and a hat to complete it. |
lol marriage what is your friend a masochist or something
|
Yeah man I pity the first of my friend's to get married. Ah well, you never know, could be the one in a million right call.

inviting the government into your personal life is never the "right call."

I've decided that I really like the Peanut body shape of a WishBass. I think I'll try my hand at building a bass (again) here in the next 3 weeks, and I want that body shape with a different headstock shape.
4-strings fretless Aftermarket bridge Walnut body Maple neck Purpleheart fretboard (if the piece I have is long enough) MM-style pickup Aftermarket preamp Knowing what I know now about the process involved in making an instrument, I have much higher hopes for this build than my 7-string flop. |

The reason it is monogamous is because after intercourse, both halves become joined and inseparable. Fun factoid. |
some say certain birds exhibit monogamy as well

If not, just buy a Peanut bass from Wish and finish it off yourself. He builds them cheaper than you can probably. |
some say certain birds exhibit monogamy as well
I'm sure there are monogamous animals out there that, even though the potential exists for other mating, remain with only one partner. We just don't know yet for certain. I'm just going on the only 100% provably monogamous creature. Philosophy of Sexuality was a phenomenal class. My local community college offered it, and I think everybody should take it. It's absolutely fascinating. |

MN. **** a butt. I'll be going to Chiggy Town sometime this year to see the Pixies. |
What does aftermarket mean?

I have a truss rod, a cheapy bridge, tuners from my squier, and a piece of purpleheart. The walnut and maple will, at most, run me $100. I don't have the pickup, but Wish would charge for the pickup as well, so I break even in that regard. At it's basic form with supplying my own bridge and pickup, the bass will cost $450 on top of the cost of the bridge and pup, which could bring me to ~$550. I am hoping to build this for $200 including the cost of the pickup and wood as I have everything else. Besides, I'm modifying his design a bit based on the pickup choice and my preference for the angle at which bass hangs when standing. I'd also think the body style would be better complimented by a different headstock design. Most importantly - I just want to build a bass. |

Cheap, no-name knock-offs. |
