I should get it.
All this Ummagumma discussion makes me fee left out :'(
ummagamma isnt eh best, if your not a die hard PF fan then id would even go with saying its not worth the money or time. |
David Gilmour will be on channel 4 like, right now (12:17)
For those of you in the U.K / Ireland |
The live stuff is considered "disc 1"
In that case, I meant the second one is my favorite. |
Awww, but you've got live versions of Careful With The Axe, Eugene and Saucerful Of Secrets!
I love the Narrow Way parts the best of Disc 2. |
Of course, David wrote them :)
Those are probably my favorite bits of Ummagumma also, besides the live stuff. I also enjoy Rick's stuff quite a bit. |
Heh, but Rick was my favourite member of the band. :p
Oh, and as for DSOTM, it jumps from musical idea to musical idea, such as Great Gig In The Sky to Money, and Any Colour You Like to Brain Damage especially. Intense, faster beats, more chaotic, to slower, laid back, rock melodies. Of course, that is part of the concept to me, since it is about madness and death. |
Ya I see what you're saying. I'm actually listening to the album right now. I just love how each song leads into the next, it really does sound like one 45 minute long song.
|
It jumps around, but in terms of making a smooth transition from one style to another (except money, but started off side 2 of the lp) I thought it was very well done.
|
Yeah Ive always noticed that having the original vinyl records divides up the album better. People always talk about differences in Disc 1 and 2 of The Wall but you're probably better off comparing each of the four sides.
Oh and my favourite parts of Ummagumma are probably Syshpus and The Narrow Way too. And strangely enough the small furry animals one has really grown on me. |

Ya exactly. You've gotta remember that CD's didn't exist when Pink Floyd was making music, all of their music was made for vinyl. |
I think far too many bands nowadays fill up an entire CD just for the sake of it. Like they have 45 minutes of good stuff but then in between it all is filler to make the 70 or so on a CD. So yeah, vinyl rocks!! :thumb:
|
God, Dark Side is so good. I haven't listened to this album through in a little while, but I heard "Us & Them" on the radio yesterday and decided to pop it in. It's fantastic.
|
Dark Side of the Moon is so ****ing good.

On another note, the album cover on the live disc of Ummagumma reminds me of the head of Baphomet. cover: http://image.listen.com/img/170x170/4/4/7/5/505744_170x170.jpg baphomet: http://paranormal.se/images/Baphomet.jpg |
That's one hell of a loose connection, but unfortunately thats all some people need to go around calling bands a bunch of Satanists.
|
Hm, well, I certainly wouldn't think "Satanist" myself. It was just what I thought of when I saw it. The symbol is used by satanists now, but it has extensive and unclear history.

You can find used ones that work perfectly fine for 50 bucks, maybe even less. |
The Baphomet symbol, and the pentagram (without the Goat) was actually an alternative to the cross, and widely used throughout Christianity until the time of Constantine the First, I think.
Also, the inverted cross is actually the Cross of St. Peter. :p Hardly a symbol of the devil. |
I heard somewhere when the Christian church was first forming, they were torn between which symbol to use to represent Christianity. The two final options were the Cross and the Pentagram. The Cross obviously won, and the Pentagram eventually became a symbol of evil.
I dont know if that's true, though. |
page turn. ill save someone the misery.
I LOVE HIGH HOPES *splooge* |
Actually the Pentagram is Pagan or Wiccan and is only seen as evil purely because it's not christian.
|
The pentagram is based off the Baphomet and was a Christian symbol long before it was a pagan one. The sunwheel was a pagan symbol for a long time though, and now is seen as evil in its perverted form (the swastika).

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to rippa32 again.
I really need to buy a record player and start listening to vinyl records. i don't know where to start, though, as I've never touched a record player in my life.
Duals are wonderful and you can usually find them for around 50 bucks on ebay. What made me think of baphomet when I saw the Ummagumma cover was the circular object (gong?) at the very top. In the image of baphomet, there is a candle or torch atop the goat's head which symbolizes intelligence, enlightenment and/or illumination. I think.
Duals are wonderful and you can usually find them for around 50 bucks on ebay.
Thank you, that is actually quite helpful. Must spread rep :/ |
Well, I don't think the Baphomet this was intentional, its just looks cool is all.
|

Sure thing, I used to have the coolest direct-drive Dual. The platter alone was so amazingly heavy, it was so cool. Those Germans really can build them. |
Heh, yeah, ours was a Dual too. I need to get a new one also, eventually the repairs just got too much.
|
Well I got a question for you guitar playing people, I heard David Gilmour uses a big muff pedal for his guitar yet I always thought that was more often used in heavier music. Does anyone know what song he used the muff in?

http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=79 Here you go man. |
I just watched the Wall for the first time last night.
I was very disappointed. Chemical enhancement may have helped, it's hard to sit through a full length movie when there is no dialogue. |
Dialogue? Who cares it told a story, and there was lyrics so it's not like there was no words.
Oh and coneman thanks for that site, and I always assumed he used amp distortion, ah well. |
I was going to watch it on vh1 last night but I fell asleep before it started
|
I wish I had a Big Muff pedal.
I was very disappointed. Chemical enhancement may have helped, it's hard to sit through a full length movie when there is no dialogue.
I had that problem too. I still liked it, but it does try my patience. |
I have a Double Muff pedal
|
I didnt have a problem with The Wall, but I can see why some people would. It's still a good movie, dialogue or not.
|
Well for me, it was easier to understand because I already owned the album and researched all the meanings. Also Ive found some people have trouble hearing the lyrics on the album, myself included then I listened to it with a lyrics sheet until I got used to it.
|
The Wall is a great movie. As I've said before, the animated parts are the best part of the entire film.
|
I thought it was worse then the actual ablum itself, which for me is a pretty bad thing. Worse off was the fact that Bob Geldof was in it.
|
Oh, that's pretty bad then.
