EDIT: The song I listened to before was actually a fake someone sent to me over AIM.

But I do have the real deal right now, I am uploading it onto yousendit.com and my god does it kick some serious ***.

Destroys TGC 10X over.

relliK 07-19-2005 07:12 PM

relliK 07-19-2005 07:56 PM

Not sure if I have the fake.It starts out with "Devil cracks the earth...." at about 1:10.Is that the one you got?If so, I agree. The song slays The Grand Conjuration.

Dude3 07-19-2005 08:25 PM

Wait, what's this other song you guys are talking about?

relliK 07-19-2005 08:27 PM

Ghost of Perdition.

Holy ****...Mikael's grunts are MONSTER in that song! (Ghost of Perdition). I'm not sure how I feel about the "Devil cracks the whip" part, though....as a whole, it rules. 6:00 is TOTALLY PT. 6:45...is ****ing nuts. Wow..the synths after that rule. I really like how they're combining what was done on Dam nation with what was done before...very cool stuff.

Sorry, I'm kinda live-updating as I listen to the song. :D

relliK 07-19-2005 09:01 PM

I didnt like that part too much either.I love the humming at about 3:00 though. So beautiful.

Dude3 07-19-2005 09:02 PM

The Grand Conjuration is great! I couldn't really tell with the other radio version, but this one's quality is great.

I'll listen to The Ghosts of Perdition in a few minutes too.

MegaMustaine 07-19-2005 09:22 PM

Sorry guys, I'm a newb to Opeth. What album would you recommend for a first time Opeth listener? I haven't heard any music, just a lot of talk about the band. I think its time I check them out.

I would get Blackwater Park. Its an amazing album, and got me into Opeth.

PIGS(1 different one) 07-19-2005 09:31 PM

Still Life for sure.

MegaMustaine 07-19-2005 09:32 PM

What genre do most people consider Opeth?

Depends on what you've heard. Blackwater Park is a must get, so far this cd is the best release to date. Songs as Bleak and The Drapery Falls show Mikaels voice has improves and is still with every album D*mnation is an awesome album as well, especially if your into slow, mellow songs. Still Life has an incredible mix of clean and grim vocals, as BWP does. The solos on White Cluster are so awesome. Deliverence is one of the newest albums, but its not as good as the rest. But, Deliverence and A Fair Jusdgement are the best ones are there. Orchid is Opeth's first cd. Not exactly the best but is still worth getting, because well it's Opeth. My Arms Your Hearse is another amazing album with songs such as Demon Of The Fall and When.

In short I think you should (in this order) get BWP, SL, MR, DE, MAYH, O and you can get D*mnation at whatever time. It just really depends how much you like slow songs.

Death Metal?Possibly Melodic Death.I don't know. It's hard because they will go from pure Death to acoustic to softer, more mellow and melodic riffs back to Death. But I would just say Death Metal or Melodic Death to easily classify them.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head.Blackwater Park was my first Opeth CD,and my favorite, then I got ****ation followed by Orchid and Still Life and out of those four he's got them listed correctly.

PIGS(1 different one) 07-19-2005 09:47 PM

Extreme Progressive Metal.

Dude3 07-19-2005 09:52 PM

I only have BWP and Still Life, but they are amazing. I personally like Blackwater Park better, but Still Life is right up there.

I never really hear people talk about The Leper Affinity when they talk about BWP. That's one of my favorites on that album.

It's pretty hard to put them in a genre, especially how they play so many different styles of music. But i have heard them called Progressive Death Metal.

Dannyboy15 07-19-2005 10:36 PM

GOP is great. What a ****ing kickass song!

ArC 07-19-2005 10:47 PM

Does anyone know of a place to find Opeth vinyls? Besides ebay. I've bought Orchid, MAYH, and Morningrise. I'm looking for BP, Delieverance, ****ation, and Still Life.

RouteOne 07-19-2005 10:48 PM

After listening to all of my Opeth CD's (minus MAYH and Stilllife, I don't own them) I can say Orchid is definetly their best.
