hey mappy, i love you

i am the robots 01-17-2008 10:25 PM

yeah but a mental issue where somebody is incredibly ecstatic one section and then beating the **** out of someone ten years his minor for no apparent reason is a bit more than an abnormality

something thatll take a happy family dinner to throwing the bible at somebody's face one second later is more than a ****ing abnormality

would you like to hear more about how "exaggerated" this "abnormality" is?
yeah vince im glad youve experienced the same ****ing home life as me

seriously ****ing tell more people their wrong based off of their lives that you havent even ****ing experienced, my family is seriously extremely ****ed up and i dont need some moderator who takes the internet too seriously and bans somebody for a year over spam telling me that its "fake"
wait where did you make a point in there?

if you don't need this moderator that's cool it's not your perogative to choose.

edit: it's a socially constructed problem though not a disease. i'm not saying it's not a problem. sometimes it is. but it's not a disease.

i am the robots 01-17-2008 10:27 PM

im just saying shut the **** up because you have no ****ing place to tell me that bipolar disorder isnt ****ing anything

publicastration 01-17-2008 10:28 PM

Come on Vince, I'm a little bi polar, and even if it's technically not a disease, it sucks.

If you think it should be considered normal to be happy one day and extremely depressed the next than think that, but it's not shared by everyone.
diseases are illness of body parts, the mind isn't a body part though. the brain is.

mind =/= brain
ummm chemicals control thought. Thought is the internal interpretation of chemical process. Therefore, the mind = brain.

Permanent Solution 01-17-2008 10:28 PM

but i didn't say that you're overreacting and strawmanning so chill.

i am the robots 01-17-2008 10:29 PM

i used ****ing examples that ive seen in my own home, things that i grew up around constantly, seriously: YOURE USUALLY ****ING WRONG IN THESE SITUATIONS

Calm down. I think he just meant technically it's not a disease per the meaning of the term.
I reject your reality and substitute my own
thats cool, but I prefer to go with supported ideas.

Permanent Solution 01-17-2008 10:31 PM

you haven't addressed what i actually said at all you've merely addressed what you think i said which is incorrect.

it's too bad you think i'm incorrect, for your sake.

i am the robots 01-17-2008 10:31 PM

well thats a stupid ****ing irrelevant point to make in an attempt to seem smart

publicastration 01-17-2008 10:32 PM

i don't have to attempt to seem smart, i know i'm smart.

also it's really not, people treat these problems like diseases and try to solve them with medicine which is the improper approach to those sorts of problems. your case is a perfect example of that in fact.

i am the robots 01-17-2008 10:37 PM

only one of my family members is medicated other than me

and shes a total bitch when shes not on medication

maybe i just put too much trust in medication for said disorder because i havent seen my one older brother in four ****ing years, and maybe if we got him on something he wouldntve turned out the way he is now
Is there much on wiki about his philosophy?
not really

the article on anti-psychiatry gives a basic description of the subject but also contains some bullshit

I have some book that gives a good outline of the subject and references a whole bunch of authors and studies etc. The main reason I got interested in it was it compared mental illness to LSD trips, which seems really weird. But it had some really interesting stuff about the whole set and setting theory.

gmoneyguy 01-17-2008 10:40 PM

You've seen Roman Gabriel Todd's Beast Rising Out of the Sea?

but that was part of my original point. just because you can medicate normalcy doesn't mean you should. just because medicine solves an issue doesn't make that issue a disease.

if society had helped your parents raise you in a less bipolar environment, you wouldn't be as bipolar. if you ate healthier foods and fewer chemicals you'd be less bipolar. the problem with medicalizing mental disorders is that you fail to address any other factors which could solve the problem effectively without medication.
