And Lunch, that might work out. When would be a good day to jam?
I'm not sure, my mom would probably get weirded out by me having a random college kid from the internet over at my house, but I think we could still work it out if your serious. How long is the drive to Annapolis? And "The Magic Pimp Bus", we live in Maryland. |
I have recording capabilities, and I'm sweet at guitar. So I'll do it!
EDIT: Ok, Maryland. |
I can do just about any classic rock on drums, but I've got a 600 dollar drum set and one mic...Just downloaded Audacity though =p
So if everything else goes horribly wrong...lol =p |

Most recent trip to the cd store:
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Expireinced The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (alternet takes) John Lennon - Acoustic Cream - Disraeli Gears The Doors - The Doors Forrest Gump Soundtrack All of them are awsome, the John Lennon Acoustic cd would have to be the highlight for me since I've already heard most of the songs on the others either on live cds or the radio. |

I'd say you're pretty happy right now. :)

A lot more happy then my parents will be when they find out about how much of their money I used :) |

lol, I was just going to say that. Class album, it was the first time I'd ever heard For what it's worth by Buffalo Springfield... |
It was weird because I hadn't seen it in around 6 years, and when I was younger I didn't recognize any of the songs.
|
Anyone want to start a chat?
|

It's good. |
I'm in if anyone else is...
np: flying burrito brothers - sing be back home |
I really liked The Flying Burrito Brothers' song on Festival Express. A lot. I want to hear more!

Rush out and buy the first copy of "Guilded Palace of Sin" you can find..or there's some anthology with basically every song on it, but they don't have a whole lot of songs in the first place. About two albums with the original line up (Gram Parsons, "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow), and maybe one or two with a reformed line up, namely without Parsons. The Parsons era is better, I've heard.
Anyways, yeah...not many people know a whole lot about them. They're so groovy and funky and countrified, all in rock form. =p edit: actually, I'm sure lots of people know lots about them, but they're sometimes overlooked by the regular "classic rock" fans. |
I know my dad has a few of their albums, but I haven't listened to them yet. I'll look into the one you said.
|
Which BOC cd, besides a greatest/best of, would you consider to be the best buy??
|

I also recommend... Gram Parsons - GP Very good Country Rock album. |
In a magazine I have, Jimi Hendrix (in an interview) says that he's really into the Flying Burrito Brothers, and they have a great guitarist. I haven't heard anything by them, but I'd like to.
And I'm all for this recording dealy that R&M is doing. What would I need to buy in order to enter this (like in terms of recording stuff), do I just need a computer mic..or would that just sound horrible? I think it would be cool if we did a song like Hotel California or something, because they're are tons of guitar parts, so none of the guitarists in this thread would get left out. Everyone think of some songs we can do! Any keyboard players in here? That'd be helpful. |

I think just a microphone will be fine. Plus you should download audacity. I would like to do "Friend of the Devil". I think we could fit three guitars in there easily. And I know most the licks, riffs, runs, and solos to it. EDIT: Pete Seeger owns. After hating his voice for months, I have finally gotten into it, and his writing. |
I've got a computer microphone, but yet to download Audacity.
I'll play rhythm since I'm sure the Pimp Bus owns the hell out of me in terms of guitar. And Bus I live in California, so you probably won't head all the way down here. |
i play drums and guitar if needed. whatever. i may not even have my mic anymore.
Which BOC cd, besides a greatest/best of, would you consider to be the best buy??
I have Don't Fear the Reaper, it has 16 tracks I think. Pretty good I might add. Definitally get one with Cities on flame, Flaming Telepaths, Astronomy, In Thee, and Black Blade...and I Love the Night, thats a good one. All underrated gems. |
So..guys...I'm definitely seeing Alice Cooper in October!
|
That's great.. Alice Cooper is coming to Calgary too, but not with Cheap Trick which sucks.. I might go though

Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties I already have a lot of these albums either on vinyl or CD, but I couldn't turn them down for less than a couple bucks each. Feel free to make any comments, or suggest what I should listen to first.
I dunno if you've heard Secret Treaties before, but I advise paying careful attention to the phrasing in the end solo of Dominance & Submission, the short solo in Cagey Cretins (incredibly underrated song. short but sweet, but with all the solo notes in the right places), the leadwork in Flaming Telepaths, and all of Astronomy. In fact, the whole darn album is pretty excellent. Enjoy. |

Hi. I advise: The first (self-titled) album is well-rounded, and diverse enough to have something for everyone. Standout moments: I'm On The Lamb But I Ain't No Sheep - excellent song title, and superb leadwork. (I feel I should mention early on that, Buck Dharma often appears to be soloing fluidly throughout entire albums). Then Came The Last Days Of May - Rejects normal verse/chorus structure for a seamless tale of a drug-deal gone wrong, but with beautiful, haunting music. Stairway To The Stars - The song with the riff that inspired ZZ Tops 'La Grange' riff. Excellent solo in this, boogielicious. Before The Kiss, A Redcap - Jazzy, bouncy, fun, excellent basswork, neat twin guitars. Screams - Has haunting, unconventional phrasing, and some cool riffs. Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll - Excellent, full-on hard rock. Tyranny & Mutation (Second album). When released, it was split into two sides on the vinyl, labelled 'The Red' and 'The Black'. One side was trippy weird songs, and the other side (first four tracks on cd) were sheer brilliant hard rock metal. The Red & The Black - Took the final riff from 'I'm On The Lamb' and was souped up into an intense, hyperactive, leadwork-filled masterpiece. Quite possibly the coolest song ever. O.D'd On Life Itself - Excellent, cool song. (The remaster of the cd has a superior live version, too) Hot Rails To Hell, and 7 Screaming Dizbusters are also great tracks (remaster has a superior live version of Dizbusters, too). Remaster also contains a studio version of Buck's Boogie (instrumental). Secret Treaties (Third album) Dominance & Submission - Contains one of the best solos ever at the end. It's amazing how someone can play that fast and that clean (without resorting to tapping) M.E. 262 - Like a souped up nazified Chuck Berry song  Flaming Telepaths & Astronomy - Best listened to together for a sublime listening experience. On Your Feet Or On Your Knees (Live album) All the best stuff from the first three albums. Includes - Excellent version of The Red & The Black. A version of Harvester Of Eyes which has a marvellous end-jam that you will want to listen to again and again. The Subhuman - This version of the song was the one that most often turns people into BOC fans. Excellent live versions of Dizbusters, and Buck's Boogie. Then Came The Last Days Of May - Contains a solo which is praised by every BOC fan I know (and I know a lot of BOC fans) Live Cities On Flame, with extended end jam. M.E. 262 - When this song was performed in the mid-70's, it was the Five Guitars version, where the drummer would also play a guitar on this. Very cool jam, with a very cool solo by Buck at the end. Maserati GT - Cover of a Yardbirds song which has Buck improvising some killer stuff throughout. Enjoy. |
classic rock is definently getting more popular.
My favorites: Pink Floyd Zeppelin AC/DC Black Sabbath Deep Purple The Who |
